  1. I would love to help, but hubby said 'no, as he has enough trouble coping with two dogs.' Sorry. :D I'm sure you will find some lovely temp/perm homes on here.
  2. Georgeous photos everyone! Just stunning. I love the staffy on the rock - what a stunning 'show' stand, I love the pictures of the pup sharing the bed, the stunning shepherd, the beautiful Mals and Akita, funny captions with LDR's dog, and the dogs cuddling together, all so adorable! Here are a few of Henschke. 1. As an 8 week old pup (with hubby). 2. Showing his belly as an 8 week old pup. 3. On the couch - his favourite spot. 4. And one of my all time favourites, during a sneeze! 5. And looking out the window (we call him 'Mavis').
  3. Excellent news, CW - it's always lovely to hear about how well Charlie is going as I know how much he means to you.
  4. Awww, dogs are great, aren't they? Henschke does so many, but one of my favouites is when he's lying on the couch and looks across at me (I'm in the single chair) with his head resting on the arm, it's so adorable. Another is when he comes up and puts his head on your lap all the while looking up at you with his beautiful eyes. I'm a sucker for that one! Jindi will snuggle into the smallest spots just to be near me. She is such a cuddler which is so lovely. At night both dogs are told to wait at the bottom of the stairs while I walk up the top and then when ready (extend and shorten the time to keep them on their toes) I tell them 'OK' and they both race up the stairs (Jindi almost flying) and Henschke runs straight to his bed beside our bed and goes into an immediate drop and Jindi runs to her crate and waits until I give them their treats. Also, when we get home and both dogs have toys, they do the waggle bum thing with little grumble noises, so adorable.
  5. Agree with this. Poor Boof, sounds like some cuddles are in order.
  6. It's good to know that I'm not the only neurotic owner... *prints off thread to show husband evidence*.
  7. Agree with both of these statements. We had our vet show us how to do it, as it's not a simple task as 'squeezing' the glands - you first have to know where they are! If it is an ongoing problem, make sure you wear gloves, have paper towels ready, and stand clear! Henschke used to have this problem all the time - it got so bad, they would get infected and in the end we had them removed. I'd strongly recommend going to the vet if it occurs again and get the vet to show you what to do - hopefully it's just a one off.
  8. I would recommend a Cavalier or a Sheltie. The Cavalier due to the soft temperament, loves to cuddle, easy to train, gets on well with other dogs. I had one as a child and she was terrific! The second breed, Sheltand Sheepdog (or Sheltie) are also fantastic (again had a Sheltie), easy to train, good looking, lovely temperament, can be a bit standoffish with strangers, although ours wasn't and excellent watch dogs.
  9. Gawd, aren't they clever? In our household the dogs used to play up as soon as a call came in...now they've matured so don't behave like that. Thank gawd.
  10. Comso - I'm sure your breeder will think he's a handsome little devil.
  11. Here are some of my photos. A photo of Jindi as a pup (we didn't actually take her until she was 6 months old) and as an adult. And her lying on her bed when we first brought her home from the breeders (lying on a paw printed bed).
  12. Since we have a breed that is considered 'rare' I was completey paranoid about him being stolen and was so worried about it, that for the first six months he was kept inside the house...yep, you can imagine the havoc he caused! Chewed our dining table, ripped cushions apart, tore out the bottom of a dining chair, howled, and kept busy escaping out of his pen. In the end we installed a doggy door and figured if someone was going to steal him, they could have him! Would definitely never do that again.
  13. Very cute HC - I can't decide what the caption should be - mmm you look like you would be tasty or mmm you taste delicious!
  14. Our two Field Spaniels are pretty laid back. Once I hurt my back and was off work for a week and hubby was away and the dogs were unbelievable - they just lay around with me the whole time when I thought surely they would be going stir crazy.
  15. Sway, I noticed the website has possum tails for sale - are these real? And if so, isn't the possum a protected species? (Just curious 'tis all.) Yes they are real tails, they are also imported. All possums are protected in Australia under the provisions of the Wildlife Act 1975 Ah right, I thought there must be a logical answer.
  16. Recently my sister commented on the 'doggy smell' and we just thought 'oh well' and then I went to her house and the back room stinks because of a rabbit cage! And I mean pooh-wee! At least our house doesn't smell like urine!
  17. They are gorgeous photos! I love the first one, what a cack!
  18. We found that our house used to smell when we had carpet. So we removed the carpet in the main living areas (not bedrooms) and laid hardwood timber flooring. And on the weekends we open up the house - seems to work a treat. The only time it's bad is when the dogs need a wash, and we're the ones who comment on it, not others. If I ask a family member if the house pongs they are honest and say yes or no, but these days it's mostly no.
  19. Ewww, gross! What a good boy though, for retrieving! So far our female Field has brought in a dead bird and a dead mouse. So nice to come home and find those on the floor - what a lovely gift!

  21. So sorry for your loss, he sounded like an amazing dog. Hugs to you. RIP Journey.
