I am always surprised when I read these type of stories as I think so many shelters and rescue groups will more than welcome the litter open armed rather than seeing them dumped.

Stop The Use Of Pound Animals For Experiments At Queensland University
poochmad replied to DMA's topic in In The News
Wow! What an interesting thread! When I first read the emotive title, I thought OMG...and was all set to sign it when I read on and on and on. Now, thanks to the level headed DOLers, Nekhbet, Poodlefan, Mita, BB, etc, I do not support the petition and agree with what is happening at the Uni. Had it been said the operations were operated on awake dogs, then that would have been a different story altogether, but considering it's the only way (and best way) to teach future vets, and the dogs are well treated throughout, then I am all for it. -
Study Shows Young, Unsupervised Children Most At Risk For Dog Bites
poochmad replied to ~JoLu~'s topic in In The News
Not surprising that most bites are to the face, considering the way some kids behave around dogs and also being at that height. Only recently I had to advise my 5 year old niece not to stick her face in our dog's face (she was sitting on the floor and leaning in to him to touch noses) as he doesn't like it. Thank goodness he's extremely calm and not nippy as he could easily have nipped her (even playfully) and scared her (and god knows, my sister would have blamed the dog)...as he just sat there and let her do it. Thank goodness I was watching, but it just goes to show how innocent it can be and how kids just don't think, especially those not brought up around dogs. -
Excellent photos - keep 'em coming!

Toilet Training - Am I Missing Something?
poochmad replied to Kirty's topic in General Dog Discussion
What about crating her, at least until she is 'safe' to leave in the house? This way you can control her actions and are ensured that whatever she does she will be praised for doing the right thing. Or if you can't crate her, then put her on the lead and when you feel her tug, check to see if she wantst to jump off bed. If she does, take her straight outside (carry her if you can so she doesn't squat), and keep her on the lead until she goes outside (treat her and praise) then back to bed, keeping her lead on. You will just have to keep it up until she 'gets it'. -
When we got Jindi at 7.5 months of age she had never been house trained. After coming home time and time again to messes (thank goodness for wooden floors), I thought she was never going to be housetrained... However, back to basics I went, outside on the hour, treat. When caught going inside, growled and taken straight outside, treat. If too late inside ignored, taken outside and treat. When walking ignored if toileted on cement or dirt, only treated when going on grass. (Lots of treats in the early stages). After a while she started to hold on until we got home and I'd have to take her straight out and treat. If I was too slow, she'd go inside. Then, she got to the stage where as soon as we came home, she'd go straight outside and toilet and I'd wait until she was almost finish and then rush out and praise her immensely. Now, she's so much in the habit, that as soon as we come home she greets us and then rushes outside. It's just a matter of consistency and getting into a routine. And yes, she is beautiful.

So sorry for your loss. R.I.P Archie.

I vote for a Rogz bed as well. We have one of these for our dog and they are very easy to keep clean, hardy, with good padding.

I thought we weren't allowed to name stores? Agree, it is dispicable.

Wow, I did not know Pugs shed that much. My husband is allergic to dogs, but for some reason our dogs don't bother him. It seems that the more he's lived with them the allergy has lessoned. He would get skin irritations, sore eyes and itchy throat. I'm wondering if over the years he has developed an immunity to it as the previous dogs we had lived outside whereas our dogs are now inside?

Wow! Maybe you should change Ben's name to Lassie? (Yes, I know Lassie was meant to be a girl, but it was a male dog in the role.)
-
Oh. I only love my dog 85%.

How funny! I've been ignoring that since it appeared, but will now give it a go. *Clicks on link.*
