I Have Lost My Beloved Sparty And Kira ;ast Year
poochmad replied to Sparty's topic in Rainbow Bridge
It's a hard thing to do, losing a beloved pet. When you are strong enough you can change it if you wish, or leave them there so they will always be remembered. :hugs: to all of those whom are grieving for a loved one. -

At the Million Paws walk, there was a lady with a beautiful 'long haired' Mastiff (English) that she said are called fluffies but aren't well known as they are put down when they appear in litters. Is this true? If so, it's a pity as the dog was just beautiful, very calm and drew so much attention. She also had a short coated Mastiff pup, which was just adorable. ETA: the dogs listed here are just beautiful. Regarding the 'Australian Mastiff' it is such a pity that people jump on the bandwagon of 'breeding' and decide to ruin the breed by doing their own thing. The dogs listed on one website look like a mix of Great Danes, Bull Mastiffs and just big boofas.

He is beautiful. Can't wait to see more photos of him.

Fantastic news! Where was she? How was she found?

The slope in the GSD has been done to death. Go to the breeds section on Dogzonline to start your research there. There are a number of breeders still breeding the straight back dogs.

Speaking as someone who has rehomed dogs due to relocation (i.e. moving from a house to a flat for a 'once in a life' opportunity), we made sure that the three dogs were rehomed to the best families; people who sent us photos and letters letting us know how the dogs were going until I asked them to stop as it was too heart breaking. The dogs we have now are with us forever and we will never again displace our dogs for a job... Circumstances change and sometimes you do have to make that hard decision. What I hate to see are ads where people say that they are rehoming the dog because they don't have time for it anymore...and I really hate seeing elderly dogs being rehomed, I can't help but think they are doing that as the hard times are coming, i.e. meds, etc.

I love Frenchies, and Sid is such a nice example of the breed. Great photos!

She's beautiful. Hoping you get her back soon.

These ads make me really angry also imagine that poor dog lived with them for so long and they just up and leave him/her some people are mean. Agree. Some people suck.

I'm like Poodlemum, I often think about breeds, research them and then cross them off the list. So far the breeds that have intrigued me are: Lappies (sound like lovely dogs) Cavaliers (will have one again when I'm old) Mini Schnauzers Lagottos I love the Field Spaniel, but Jindi drops hair like you wouldn't believe so in my days of frustration, I think that's it, no more dog hair (for the next breed), do a spot of research and then fall in love with the Field breed again. Although I do like the look and sound of the Lappie, hubby says, "if it still drops hair, why not get a Field"? Which I reluctantly agree and then return to the idea of getting another Field...although saying that, I wouldn't mind a Welshie...or an English Springer....

Breed Spotting At The Million Paws Walk
poochmad replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
In Canberra, we walked our two Field Spaniels with two giant Great Danes. What I was amazed at, were the number of people who just came up and started patting the dogs, often without asking...and when we were walking along, people would often pat the dogs on the head as we went past. Uncommon breeds I saw were: a lovely Bearded Collie, some Old English Sheepdogs, a gorgeous Bloodhound puppy, a stunning Malamute pup, an English mastiff pup...with a long haired English Mastiff! I never knew they existed. The lady said that they are called fluffy's and are culled by breeders if they turn up, which is a shame as the breed with a coat is even more stunning without. Saw lots of lab x poodles, a couple of standard poodles (black and white), Japenese Spitz, Samoyeds, lots of Staffy's (two stood out from the crowd, a gorgeous black and white and a tan) GSDs, Goldies, Labs, gorgeous Cavs (all colours), Dachies, Basset Hounds, Westies, Beagles, English Cockers (which people thought our dogs were), lots of breeds! -
So very, very sorry Pers, you have been through so much recently. She sounds like she found her soul mate with your mum and I'm sure the two of them are cuddling up in heaven and watching over you.

What a wonderful person you are, taking him into your home and giving him most likely the best 15 months of his life. Although you didn't have him for long, I'm sure he was extremely grateful for the wonderful time he spent with you. You are very special.

Boogie sounded like a true gentle giant. My condolences to you and your family.

RIP Bear. Sorry for your loss.

Seen it before, think it's great.

For those who are worried about their dog's bits, I would just check it out with your vet next time you're in there. Better to be safe than sorry. For the licking and er, um...once the vet gives the all clear, I would just distract the dog.

Excellent post! So sorry about your bad news, it must be heartbreaking. I agree with what others have said to tell your breeder, if only to let them know for future breeding or to research into the issue. If I was the breeder, I would definitely want to know.

Those dancing dogs are incredible. The training that must go into it, blows me away. The second clip was so well done, very funny! And I love the expression on the dog of the last one. :D Keep 'em coming!

What Do You Think Of The Catahoula Leopard Dog
poochmad replied to BMAK's topic in General Dog Discussion
From a looks department, they are certainly a striking dog. From what I've read, they have a strong hunting instinct, so should only be kept by those who can handle the breed (and allow it to use that intelligence/energy).
