  1. Thankfully, it looks like this fire situation is now under control, which is fantastic. What a marvellous team the firies are!
  2. Anyone in Yass know whether they are still being told to evacuate or may be evacuated? A friend of mine who lives on the edge of town was advised this morning as they look directly onto bushland/paddocks. ETA: am reading the info online on Facebook for Yass Tribune, lots of good information being shared that is current and from people in the area.
  3. Watch and Act - Cobbler Road Fire (Yass) 09/01/13 14:13 Posted: 09/01/2013 A bush fire is burning out of control 11 kilometers west of Yass. More Information The grass/scrub fire is burning 11 kilometers west of Yass. Fire crews are undertaking property protection along Childowla Road as the fire is impacting on this area. Properties on Black Range Road and in the Ferndale, Sunnyside, Spring Vale, Wattle Valley, Yowerweema, Katandee and Euralia areas are advised that the fire may impact within the next two to six hours. There is a also a rural property on Glenroy Rd that may come in contact with fire. The townships of Yass and Bowning are not being impacted currently, however smoke from this fire is visible from Yass.
  4. Good news at the moment with the red flags being downgraded to yellow. So that's Deans Gap, Sands Hill, Yarrabin (fire near Cooma), Harden, Jugiong. There appear to be some new fires: Murrumbily and Lithgow that are also yellow flags. How is everyone this morning?
  5. Just found the 'live' blog from the ABC which gives you a lot more detail of the situation across all the fire affected areas. ABC live blog Just scroll down to the incredible fire photo and the blog is there.
  6. That is horrible! I did not think people would be so thoughtless! People just don't think.
  7. The whole thing is unfreakingbelievable. Words fail me. I think you should seek legal advice.
  8. It's all very scary. Everyone, stay safe.
  9. Sounds like a good idea. I didn't want my husband to go to work today in case he couldn't get home as he drives to Canberra past Lake George and it's just bush along there.
  10. Agree. The phone call and multiple text messages are quite scary. We are in the middle of Goulburn so will be a base for friends and family who need it.
  11. Redangel had a good idea of posting the topic here so everyone was across it, for those who don't have access to off topic.
  12. As requested by off topic users, please note the warning if you live in these areas and haven't yet received the phone call. NSW Rural Fire Service Everyone keep yourself and your fur babies safe.
  13. OMG. what a terrible, horrible, preventable (on their part) tragic thing to have happened! I agree with the others, they should be reported, at least from the point of preventing this from happening again. You trusted them to look after your dog and from sheer negligence, this happened. Hugs to you and your family. So sorry for your loss.
  14. Love the photos of Rolf, he's beautiful! I have a soft spot for Danes as friends of ours have 3.
  15. Our dogs are very lucky and have access to the house 24/7 via a doggy door. We are very lucky in that our house is stone and so is very cool downstairs. Upstairs we have an air con, but that is only on when we are home. Generally the house remains at a nice cool temp at 22 degrees compared to 30+ outside.
  16. We have a liver Field Spaniel and a black Field with a white chest and I just love the mix. I love lots of different colours, depending on the breed, including, the deepest of reds, red and white, fawn, brindle, tri, black and tan...
  17. I've just read the whole of this thread from start to finish and I'm so glad there was a happy ending to the story, even if Sally wasn't with you, Crickets as long as you hoped for; both the dogs having a chance with you is a nice ending to this thread.
  18. We used to use Malasab which is a medicated wash until I started giving the dogs sardines in oil - their coats and skin is now amazing. So we now use Plush and Fido with oatmeal, bought from woolies. Because my husband is allergic to the oil, the dogs need to remain clean. Jindi has the most amazing coat and tends to only need a bath every 2 months, while the boy is being washed monthly, thereabouts.
  19. My female was a real fatty when we came back from overseas with too many treats and not enough walking. I reduced her kibble and gave her more veggies, with a bit of sardines for taste and to maintain nice coat. She is walked daily and treats have been cut down. She has dropped 3 kilos and is now the right weight. Instead of walking slowly up the stairs as she was doing when we returned home, she now takes them at the gallop which is a good indication she is feeling better, too. :)
  20. Ours get their main meal at night, with a chicken drumstick in the morning. This has become part of the 'leaving routine' - they are given the leg and then we walk out the door. It works well.
  21. So sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family.
  22. You have made two wonderful, selfless choices, the first to take on a special needs dog when others would have turned their back and the other was when you made the final difficult choice. My heart goes out to you.
