I think the fact the dog has water, is in the shade and not there all day, says to me the dog is well loved. If it was in the heat, it would be a different story. I personally would never leave my dog unattended for fear of being stolen. If you're that worried you could hang around for the two hours for the owner to come back and then start a light conversation about the dog...the beauty of it and then lead in with what a good dog it is to wait so patiently. If you play it right, you could probably get the background story...and maybe use the conversation to express your concern in a nice way. I.e. Nonconfrontational.

It's terrible that it's taken a tragedy before a policy / process was being considered. Unfortunately, this is often the case.

Whoo-hoo! Can't wait to see photos! You must be so excited, Jules.

Daisy From Yass Pound (now Ruby)
poochmad replied to JaneyA's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Cute puppies. What does Daisy look like and what breed? -
We used happy house sitters august last year and I was not happy. We made the mistake of not meeting the couple before we went away and although they arrived two days before we left, we had no choice but to use them. If we had dogs without problems, they would have been fine, but they completely ignored the instructions for our female who is terrified of new people...just thinking about it makes me cranky. It hasn't put me off because we are going to meet a vet nurse in June before we go on holidays at the end of the year.

Jindi sleeps on the bed with us, on my side curled up in my arms. Such a nice way to sleep. Henschke sleeps on my 'delicious chair' which is a huge daybed that I bought to read books on. Our dogs are very spoilt. :)

Yes, I think it would be a hard lesson to learn and something you would never forget or probably forgive yourself.

Gee, I think that's a bit harsh. Considering the staff member is undergoing counselling, I think he has suffered enough. He will most likely not be allowed to handle dogs in the near future, until can be found trusted again. For someone who is in that line of business, imagine how awful he'd feel? From my perspective, it's a very sad, horrible and tragic event that as others have revealed can happen to the best of us. Not that we've ever left our dogs in the car, but once we accidently left our male Henschke out the fornt of the house. It wasn't until we heard banging on the front door that we discovered him. We felt awful, and it wasn't even a hot day. Poor dog and poor staff member.

Ellz, your little puppy is gorgeous, with a capital G! And Yoness, well, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth - she's my favourite colour. Absolutely adorable! Looking forward to seeing photos of your puppy, Jules. :)

Canberra & Surround Dolers - Update First Post
poochmad replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd love to, but am currently unemployed...don't think the husband would say yes at this time. Maybe next time for me. -
The most annoying thing Jindi does is a high pitch bark when she's chasing Henshcke out the doggy door...both running out after hearing a dog bark. She also does the noise when she sees a cat - it's times like that that makes it hard to love her. The most annoying thing Henschke does is wipe his slobber onto the carpet after dinner.

Introducing Tori, Teddy, Tango, Toby And Tiger

Aww, they are gorgeous! I think you are going to have a hard time saying goodbye. :) -
Witnessing your dog being mauled to death would be truly horrifying. Poor little dog, I hope it died quickly. I feel so sad for the family - I'm sure they are all traumatised from what they saw. That dog should be put down. Edited to add: if it was my dog, I'd put it down in a heartbeat - I would not trust that dog around anyone, including children.

A Shocking Example Of "training"
poochmad replied to Lollipup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
WTF?? If they were training the dogs to be 'bomb proof', then I could kind of understand but to me it looked like a regular training school. Some instructors need to be slapped - I've witnessed many a cruel thing that has been done and have been guilty for not standing up. -
Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend

I love seeing photos of him. I think the black labs are stunning. He is adorable! We had a puppy next door that used to stick his nose under the fence and they've moved away. I miss him and would love to get a puppy - but they are so much work! -

Bowls - Non-slip, Dishwasher Proof, Big Enough For Labs
poochmad replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
We just use the metal ones that you can get from woolies or a pet store. They have a rubber edge that never seems to stay on, so we bought some rubber matting, cut it up and put it under the bowls at feed time. Works perfectly. -
When I asked this of the husband he said if our life was in danger and there was no warning, he would force me to leave the dogs behind as they can be replaced. I think it would be a fight if that was to occur as I would try to take them with me regardless. I can't imagine a life without my two - that would be heartbreaking so if I had prewarning I would leave before I was forced to choose (or fight with husband).

Although nothing can bring him back, it is great that recognition has finally come regarding the salon's neglect. It is a shame that the fine is not higher. It is good news that AWL will monitor the situation and agree it would be beneficial for a media release with the purpose to prevent this horrible thing happening again.

Question. Is the purpose of this thread to address the concerns regarding PR or is it to address the concerns regarding the lack of regulations or loop holes for rescue (all rescue)?

Dog Attack In My Street Just Happened
poochmad replied to Lollipup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Poor Charlie and his family who will come home to that terrible news. We had a similar problem around my area of a Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dog roaming the street and attacking dogs. It is also aggressive with people. I reported it to the council in writing and said that it required urgent attention in case it attacked and killed another animal or a child, like other dogs in the news. The council were pretty prompt and I haven't had any trouble since. I wonder if because if the issue was quickly resolved because I put it in writing and commented about the other attacks? -
I too would let the dogs out. The cats will very quickly learn not to go in your yard. Don't worry about the cats, they are incredibly fast, but if worried, just go out first to warn the cats and then let the dogs out.
