  1. Actually, JB, they've gone a bit further and are now naming people who are allegedly against them. They are accusing them of slander, but isn't naming people on a public forum, slanderous in itself? 2. Out of curiosity, what do you feed them? It's amazing the turnaround when a dog misses a meal, LOL. Henschke used to be a pain in the butt to eat anything, now because of Jindi literally waiting for him to step away, he now eats whatever is in front of him. :)
  3. I love happy endings like this! Sounds like she found her perfect home. She's a gorgeous looking dog. :)
  4. Thanks for the response. I think I will give them a go. With regards to the possum tails, what would you use them for? Do dogs eat them?
  5. Hey fbaudry...haven't seen you around for ages! Where have you been hiding?
  6. I have some questions regarding deer antlers as I've never heard of this before. How hard are they, can they break teeth? Our dogs have a soft enamel so we have to be careful what bones we give them. Also, I note the above photo, what's inside the shell? How long (roughly) do they last. ******** Off topic question. Within the attached link, there is mention of possum tails? Aren't possums protected and if not, what do you do with them?
  7. Absolutely gorgeous! he's a cute Toller. I've never seen one with so little white. Does he have a white chest? ETA: I like the breed. We looked at getting one, but were put off by the idea of 'screaming'. Do they all do this?
  8. What a pity we don't have something like that here, all of those products sound fantastic.
  9. Absolutely gorgeous puppies and pooches!
  10. I agree regarding the kennel. Sometimes it's not that easy to find someone at short notice and if you have a good kennel that your pup is used to and you are comfortable with, they can be a god send. A house sitter is also a good option, if you can meet the person first - if you can go on other people's (real references) recommendations, even better.
  11. DD, what about home delivery? What sort of food are you after?
  12. Your dog knows you'll rub his butt while you're sitting on the toilet. Yep, done this. Well, what else is there to do?? You've ever asked your dog, "What should I wear today?" or "Does this look okay?" I always talk to the dogs - we have great conversations. You can sleep through an F5 tornado or a gas line explosion but wake in an instant if you hear the dreaded pre-barfing gagging noise in the middle of the night. OMG so true! Jindi has a habit of vomiting wherever she is (lazy bugger) and one night I leapt out of bed and raced her outside, all the while with the husband dazed and confused, asking - what's happening? You can pick dog hair out of your food without missing a beat but nearly lose your lunch if you find a human hair in your sandwich. So true! You've sat at work, crying, because you just got an e-mail that a friend's dog died. Done this. A friend of mine lost their Staffy when a bone got stuck in its throat. Still makes me sad. Your cupboards are always well-stocked with salmon oil, Cosequin, Missing Link, Zuke's treats, Natural Balance rolls, freeze-dried liver and sweet potato chews but you routinely run out of milk, bread and cereal. I am running out of milk, but the dogs' treat cupboard is always full. :D You've ever had to explain suspicious bruises to a medical professional and assured them – repeatedly – that you feel safe in your home. When I first started at a hospital I had a black eye from my Gordon Setter that ran into me...I was actually 'counselled' by a counsellor about domestic violence. *Rolls eyes.* You've had days where your only goal was to get home from work while there's enough daylight left so you can see to pick up dog poop in the yard. Travelling an hour to and from work in winter is the pits. I know that by the time I get home, I'm going to have to use a torch in the freezing cold to get the poo.
  13. I remember the concern quite a while back. Glad that Charlie is still going strong. Happy birthday Charlie.
  14. We've done this as well. It works well when they are in an enclosed space and they will quite happily bolt back for a treat - but the times they have been in an open space they 'forget' all about the treat. It's like they feed off our panic, little buggers.
  15. How frightening! We've had that happen to us twice so far. My husband and I were swapping leads, he thought I had it and let go and Henschke stepped out in front of a car. I screamed so loud and waited for the impact. Thank god, the car slowed down and didn't hit him. Another time, the collar came off Jindi as she strained to the other side of the road after a cat. Luckily we walk the dogs when it is early morning and no one was around as she ran across the road. The best way to get a dog back is to run away from the dog calling their name in a high pitch noise (when you are panicking your voice goes up anyway). Usually this will pique the dog's interest and they will come running after you. Definitely practice the recall though. Mind you, when a dog is focused, it's pretty hard to get them to stop. Thank goodness nothing happened today.
  16. I won't watch the videos as that sort of thing both angers and upsets me. I know that the people think they are doing the right thing and that makes them feel better about themselves, but in these instances it's kinder to put them down. It's like that Chinese Crested that has such mouth deformities it has trouble eating. There ar so many other dogs that need help.
  17. She looks beautiful. I wish we could take her, but hubby says two dogs is enough. I hope she gets somewhere soon.
  18. The photo of Miah snuggling in is adorable. Jindi is a cheese. Henschke is a red wine, so we named Jindi after a cheese because they go so well together. :)
  19. In our house it's a miracle if you don't find a dog hair. What I find curious is how you can open up a brand new tub of margarine or better and there is a dog hair. It's as though the hair has a homing device and gets everywhere you least expect.
  20. Agree with this. Red would make a lot more sense and something a bit more obvious like a red scarf around the dog or something. ETA: I think it's a good idea regardless. I suppose yellow was picked because it's a non-threatening colour, whereas red means 'warning'.
  21. Jules, that photo of miah on your blog is so cute. I wish our two were close like that, but Henschke moves away whenever Jindi wants to snuggle. Sujo, looking forward to seeing photos. :)
  22. Our house would be very big, empty and boring. And cleaner - no dog slobber to wipe off, no black tumbleweeds, no nose marks on the fridge, kitchen doors or bedroom door and the front door wouldn't need to be painted every six months to cover the scratch marks. Dogs make a home. :)
  23. I thought I read that there were a number of shots fired, so maybe in this case they were unlucky (sarcasm) and got his leg instead of his chest. There are reports of possible mental illness. If that's true, he could have been having an episode which would explain how someone could do this to a pet.
  24. I wonder if he was high on drugs? Poor dog, what a horrible thing to do.
