  1. Unfreaking believable. It's not like people haven't been told before not to do this. I think for that reason alone they should be charged with something.
  2. I'm currently sitting in the car with no air con on and it's 39 degrees. Already it's bloody hot and here and I can't even begin to fathom what it would be like if I couldn't do anything about it.
  3. Good. I agree, I can't understand how anyone can think it's ok to leave a baby, child or pet in a car on a hot day. All you have to do is try it yourself and watch how quickly you sweat. To leave a defenceless animal/human in the car does my head in. I don't like taking our dogs anywhere if it's a hot day. Whenver we travel in the car and it's a luke warm day, the air con is turned on to such a temp that we wear jackets while the dogs are cosy in the back. Anything for their comfort. :)
  4. So sorry for yor loss. Condolences to you in this sad time. She looked like a beautiful example of the breed.
  5. That is terrible! I thought the law stated dogs weren't allowed to be chained?
  6. Gorgeous pup, esky. Very cute with one ear down. He looks like a gentle soul - look at those eyes. :) Kanae, that photo would be great for a caption photo competition. :)
  7. Saw this on the news this morning. We were there only at Christmas time as my in-laws live at the bottom of the hill in Ellenbrook. Interestingly, we ended up discussing the potential for fires in the hills region as it had been a couple of years since the last one. It looked pretty frightening how quickly it was moving and worse still seeing property owners running for their lives.
  8. Beautiful! Agree with Krislin, multiple photos are a must! Looking forward to watching her grow up; she sure is a stunner. :)
  9. I would put a bandage on it and take her to the vet. A similar thing happened with our dog. We just took her to the vet where he cut it off and applied all the meds to stop it bleeding, put disinfectant on it and wrapped it up. The nail was fine and we had no trouble trimming her nail later (once it had grown back).
  10. We're lucky in that our house stays nice and cool...as long as it is shut up, I.e. no open doors or windows to let the heat in and all shutters closed. It is the best trick I learnt from my parents. Upstairs because our room is in the attic, the heat can be stifling, even with the blinds and doors shut. Before we got our air con, we'd used the cool towel (like other people have suggested) and put a fan on the dogs. Just make sure the dogs can move away in case they get too cold. The dogs are inside all the time and when it's really hot will lie downstairs in 22 degree temps on nice cool wooden floors.
  11. OMG. That would have been one horrific and scary situation. What a horrible thing to have happened.
  12. Gorgeous photos everyone. Makes me wish I had taken more when ours were younger.
  13. Sorry for your loss, what a sad and tragic thing to have had happened, especially something that could have been prevented, i.e. vaccination for the source (wherever that was). Many years a go we got a dog from the RSPCA who ended up with Parvo - luckily she was 6 months old and the RSPCA covered the medical costs. T - I didn't know that Parvo can stay in the area for so long, that is good information.
  14. Aww, love the idea of the Giant Schnauzer. She looks lovely. :)
  15. I agree with this. When we had to rehome our beloved dogs, I put a price on the dogs as I didn't want people looking for a 'free' dog. ETA: before we got our current breed, I did look at getting a mature dog from a breeder as they are so hard to find...however we got lucky and ended up with a puppy. The female though, was 6 months when we got her and the only issue we have with her besides her shyness (she's a lot better now), is that she hadn't been housetrained and I had to start from scratch.
  16. My female lies like that too. Our male will sit with his back to us. Doesn't help that my husband has 'trained' him to do that by scratching his back when he does it - I don't think anything of it and consider it a quirk.
  17. I'll go out on a limb and say yes...if you can get a dog that has detailed/full medical history, has been trained (or partially trained) and has details on the dog's temperament etc. Many, many years ago we were in the situation where we couldn't keep our 3 dogs; 1 dog went to a friend's place and two were rehomed privately. We provided everything, leads, collars, bedding, toys, medical history, likes/dislikes, photos as pups, and kept in contact until the dogs had settled in. The dogs had all been trained and this was also shown to the new owners. Before anyone has a go at me, this was a very difficult position and I cried for weeks, vowing never again to be in that situation again...
  18. Sad. Though looking at the photos, I personally thought a little coffin would be nice (couldn't help thinking about comfort). I know...silly.
  19. My husband cracks me up when he impersonates the dogs! Our male Henschke whom is a goofball would sound someting like Mr Ed (deep voice and speaks slowly). Our female who is hypervigilent, shy, but full of beans would speak in a really high pitched squeaky voice, probably like Tweetie bird.
  20. We use Paw Paw ointment - it is incredible! Our poor boy had a very burnt nose (happened when we were away) and the female also had a nose that was all cracked and nasty (god knows what they did to get this). Bit of paw paw ointment twice a day and voila! almost good as new in only a week. We just make sure it's rubbed in well before stopping as they do like to lick it off.
  21. Just want to add that not only was it a reminder for dog grooming salons, but was also a good point for those of us who groom at home. Never, ever leave your dog tied up on a table (or where they can jump off and injure themselves). I agree, it was a horrible, horrible thing that happened that could have been prevented. So sorry for your loss.
  22. Well, considering our male Henschke's nickname is boofhead, I think he has the dope thing down pat. Everything he does is dopey, from the way he gallops along sticking his back leg straight out, to the way he curls up so small in beds that are too small or sticks his legs out due to not fitting, to the way he lies on his back thumping his tail when playing 'dead'. He's such a laugh!
  23. She's certainly a pretty looking dog. Love the head shot. :)
  24. So sorry for your loss. She looked like a beautiful example of the breed - gorgeous photos. Hugs to you and your family.
  25. How absolutely terrible, not only to lose her home but all of her pets. And for you Jed:
