Act Police Officer Cap Sprays Tethered Dog
poochmad replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
If it was the reverse and a civvy did that, you cam bet your bottom dollar that the RSPCA would jump on it and the person would be charged. To have it done by a cop is doubly worse in my book. -
Lovely photos...gorgeous dogs. :D

Act Police Officer Cap Sprays Tethered Dog

I didn't watch the footage; I can't stand seeing cruel things done to animals. That cop should be charged with animal cruelty and suspended. If he does that sort of thing to a dog that posed no threat, it begs the question what other things would he be capable of doing? -
Blackun - Patterdale is a breed of terrier which look a lot like yours - it's not a place , or kennel ;) Ya, that's why I asked if that was the breed because if you Google Patterdale terriers, they look exactly like your dogs. :) Did you get them from a breeder? The reason I ask us because it seems as though you don't know what breed they are, not having a go at you mind.

Are they patterdale terriers?
-
I read that and couldn't believe that someone could be so cruel. I can't see what was wrong with her, she's a little cutey!
-
Is it right to say then Mid, that the breed has the same temperament?
-
I just checked the breed page on the main Dogzonline website and it lists the breed as one: In Australia we regard the Belgian Shepherd as a single breed with four varieties. Because of this, the dogs are always registered on their coat type and colour, not of their parents. I thought each dog had different temp types, but according to this very website, the only difference is the coat.

OT - what a great website! Especially as it has two lovely Fields. :D
-
I find it interesting that they limit the matings if the only difference between them is their coat. Does anyone know why?

So very sorry for your loss. She sounded like a true lady and a great advocate for large breeds. :)

Vent: Why Do People Get A Pup Without Really Thinking It Over
poochmad replied to Scottsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
The rescue I got Sarah through had a pom cross that was handed from international student to international student when they finished their studies and went home. She was surrendered to the rescue at nearly 4 years old. Very sad, she had spent most of her life outside as well. Thank goodness for people like you giving Sarah a home she deserves. :) -
I love how patient these dogs are. The YouTube video of the dogs at the restaurant is an excellent example.

He is gorgeous, a lovely example of the breed. Love the first photo, looks like the bed is just for him. :D
-
They are just (insert really bad swear word here) As soon as it was known about an elephant with tusks like that he was doomed. It's so sad that men (and I'm sure they are all men who want these trophies) look past the beauty of the animal or environment for their own need. So sad.

Wow. I'd be afraid to pull something solid out like that in case it causes tearing... -
Vent: Why Do People Get A Pup Without Really Thinking It Over

That was very good. Pity they don't do these type of ads on TV to get the message across. I seriously think that people have no idea about the requirements for having a dog. Some think that the pup comes automatically trained, while others think dogs understand English. Unfortunately a lot of people think dogs are easily replaceable and so don't put any time in. There's always puppies advertised online or in pet shops. Don't want your dog? Just dump it at the local pound. Out of sight, out of mind. -
He is gorgeous.

Aww, LisaCC, how can you be so cruel?? :p

When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
poochmad replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
As others have said, I would only take our dogs to a place that allowed the dogs inside and on the bed. We have an old doona on the guest bed in case the dogs sleep there, and sheets on both the main bed and the sun bed where our dogs sleep. Makes it easier to keep clean. Mind you, makes us wonder why we buy nice bed linen when it can't be seen, LOL. So if we stayed somewhere else, we would follow the same rules at home; taking washed bedding for the dogs to sleep on. ETA: if the place requested no dogs inside or on the bed, we would not stay there. -

It's incredibly frustrating and heart breaking. There is nothing worse for me than seeing a pup ignored. Our previous neighbours purchased a sweet little male Staffy pup which was left outside all the time with only a kennel and an enclosed playpen for the first couple of weeks. Listening to it howling every night broke my heart. It was left outside even when there were huge storms and lightening - the poor little thing cried all night long. I seriously was considering jumping the fence and stealing it...the only interaction was periodic when they would go out and play with it. It was never taken for walks, never trained and would get yelled at for the tiniest reason. I wouldn't have minded so much if there were more interactions, but it seemed as though they bought the pup and then just left in the backyard thinking that would be fine. They've since moved and I often wonder what happened to it. In comparison, my two are happily curled up next to me with my girl sharing my heated throw. :)
