Fish Oil And Another Dose Of Ap...
poochmad replied to westiemum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We give our male olive oil. Have discovered that the Woolies no name brand is not as good as the 'good stuff'. Took literally a couple of weeks to go from mr scratchy to mr shiny. He now gets roughly a tablespoon each meal. -
Wow! I want one!! :D

Just went through the whole thread, admiring your boy. Both dogs are gorgeous. I guess their bark would be a good deterrent? Are they good watch dogs or would they rather sleep?
-
I just saw that and couldn't help but think...who the heck keeps filming???
-
Wow! That would have been pretty frightening, for everyone involved including the audience. Thank goodness he was able to get away. Have to say though, there is no way I'd be sticking my hand in a croc's mouth! But you are right, he probably didn't even think about what he was doing and just reached for it. Bet he will be more careful now.

That's frighten terrible and one of my biggest fears. Those poor dogs.

She certainly was beautiful. Thank goodness you were with her when she passed. to you in this sad time.

So very sorry for your loss. RIP Ted.

Should People Who Work 7 Hours A Day 5 Days A Week Buy A Puppy?
poochmad replied to Stitch's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's a fantasy to want your dogs to go to homes where people are only away for 7 hours of the day. Most professionals work longer hours up to 10 or more and don't forget, not everyone lives within 5 mins drive from their home By taking full time workers out of the equation you are left with stay at home parents (who wouldn't have time for a pup), people who work from home (who couldn't devote all their time to a pup), retired people, or the unemployed. By taking out the above people/groups you'd be left with a minute pool of people. -
I looked at getting one of those for our girl - that or one of those igloo beds. But I wondered if she'd get too hot in it? She sleeps on our bed instead. :D

Poor little puppy. That would have been a terrifying ordeal for everyone involved. Thank god there were people around to come to the rescue. What I don't understand is why an adult dog would attack a puppy like that? I always thought puppies were safe from that type of thing happening. Or am I completely off the mark?

How freaking scary. What about the dogs they were walking?

Act Police Officer Cap Sprays Tethered Dog
poochmad replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
Hey, there is an update to this story. It appears that the cop in question gas been demoted and there is an internal investigation occurring. The RSPCA has also stepped in saying that the behaviour was inexcusable... It issued another statement on Tuesday, saying it had continued talking with police about the matter. "Many people may not realise that police officers are also authorised by the Animal Welfare Act as animal cruelty inspectors. Since the original complaint went to the AFP rather than to RSPCA ACT, they are obligated to continue with this investigation even though it is an internal case," it said. "We have offered our assistance to the AFP in this matter. They have told us that the dog was not actually hit by the capsicum spray. However, they did not know whether or not it was hit by the stick that was thrown. We will continue to stay in touch with them as their internal investigation progresses, and will let you know about any new information that we might receive regarding this case." It said the fact the incident involved an "authorised animal cruelty inspector as a police officer is disturbing". "However, it has not been something that we have witnessed before from other officers," it said. Gah, I Think I'm A Puppy Tragic!
poochmad replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well, considering at the time I wanted a dog to carry, the Bassett was definitely not the right breed. :) I don't mean huge, like a Great Dane, but they certainly weren't what I was expecting. I was thinking more like a Beagle. -
Interesting. Does it work if the dog already has plaque on the teeth? Or will it just stop more being added? Or can it remove plaque that is already there?

Years ago, before our male we looked at getting a Bassett Hound...until we saw the size!! Holy donut!! They are huge!! But very adorable. :D -
Heh heh. Everyone says that. We try to keep our fosters at least 2 months though to make sure we've trained them up and fully assessed their temperament. No matter how pretty she is, she still has to leave with the Mandatory Training Behaviours  Wow. Impressive list of add ons for adoptees.

Wow. She's pretty. Don't fall in love with her...me thinks she won't be with you long. :)

Canada - Woman Stops To Help Ducklings
poochmad replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
It is sad, but everyone knows you don't stop for animals. However, easier said than done, because I've seen many people swerve or stop to avoid hitting an animal, including my husband who's an extremely careful driver. It's human nature to not want to hurt something and in the heat of the moment, you often don't think. -

If I was them, I'd contact the local media or put it in on today tonight one of those shows and get it out there. Bet something would be done then.
