My RRxlab ate (we think) a bee, her face swelled up completely, I couldn't see her eyes and her face looked like a football, she also had small lumps all over her body - straight to the vet for a cortisone injection, she was fine soon after.

Stella partially tore her cruciate ligament and our vet (with Xrays) wasn't sure if that was the case - we were referred to an ortho specialist who examined Stella under a partial anaesthetic (enough so she would relax) and it was confirmed.

How To Fatten Up A Greyhound Pup
Paula- replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, Dash and Lionel had a heap of difference in weight, Lionel was much more heavily built (but not fat). You could see Dash's ribs, but not too much. -
Nessie Just Failed Intermediate Again
Paula- replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hey Imy!!! Radar did pass beginners!!! BMP, Stella has failed intermediate twice - the last time dismally as she also 'forgot' sit, down, stay... everything!! We were atrocious and even had the president of the club come up afterwards and tell us I figured we've improved, so that's something. Back to try again, later in the year, after putting Mintybutt through Kindy. Nessie has had a longer way to go than most, well done -
With Stella I did click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat-click-treat- Waited a minute til she was looking away and - click - poor girl nearly got whiplash spinning around to look at me :D

I adopted Angus when he was 9, with bad HD - he's now 11 and a bit more. Angus initially ran with a bunny hop, dragged his feet when walking and even had trouble when standing still. Running your fingers along his spine caused him to flinch. We started with a course of cartrophen, which was one injection a week for four weeks, then another every 6 months. There was a marked improvement. He gradually deteriorated and we could see he was starting to be in pain again, although as happy as ever for walks and cuddles he had more trouble rising and getting into the car. Angus now gets an injection every 4-6 weeks, and he plays like a puppy, jumps on the lounge, jumps up and puts his paws on my shoulders and is doing very well. I give him a gentle massage every day. Running my hand down his back doesn't hurt him, he now rolls over and paws my arm for a belly rub. Our vet said that not all dogs react well to it, however Angus had a noticeable improvement after two injections. At some point the cartrophen may not be enough, but Angus is a happy fella at the moment.

Introducing New Puppy Into The Household (long)
Paula- replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Puppy Chat
Stella puts the puppies in their place. She'll tolerate them, and play with them, but if they get too much she'll do a little growl.... puppies keep bouncing in her face.... bigger growl.... keep bouncing.... "RARRR!!" ... puppies back off for a second or two.... straight back in and she turns and "RARRRRRRRRRR!" in their face... .... puppies lay down, wag their tails, and then very quietly start playing together and leaving her alone. Not upset, still grinning like loons, but they've learnt not to be rude. They are always supervised and only together for short periods, as I figure Stella shouldn't have to put up with puppies all the time and they do want to play like maniacs Her play freaked them out a little bit at first, seeing a huge (to them) dog, bounce up in a play bow going WOOOF! -
Stella backs up and lifts her leg, she's wanting a scratch under her leg... 'back armpit.. sort of '

I think the warning "supreme bench surfer" is always given, however when you realise they can reach the top of the fridge, open the fridge...
-
Clyde's already gone to his new home
-
Glad to hear that Clyde's OK Greedy little greyhound, at least Clyde can't open the fridge! And at least he unwrapped them first! Don't know if it's true but I've heard that once bitten by the choc bug, dogs are reallly keen to get more, so keep an eye out for the sneaky boy

Please Help! Greyhound Puppy Won't Eat Much
Paula- replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yay!!!! Great news -
When Angus had the initial four-shot course, he had a very dramatic improvement very early on. We were told it affects different dogs in different ways, but that we had a very good result. We've now had to increase the frequency of injections for Angus to monthly, he is bouncy and happy (spent Sunday night tearing around the house with Phoebe and Chloe and barking like a lunatic ).

What can I say but YAY JACK!!!! A huge well done, Mel, I can't wait to see how Jack goes next time :D
-
Ah noooo!!! Give him a cuddle from me too.
