  1. I am so sorry LC and Mr LC What a lovely old man, and he certainly wasn't short of love and cuddles before he went. I'm sure he's up at the bridge, barking at Maggie and making her do zoomies

    Sick Puppy?

So you got a sick, undesexed pup from rescue? That's not good at all, and certainly not the way a rescue should run. I hope your little pup recovers well
  3. I'm so sorry Fifi Run free at the bridge Tamsyn
  4. Regardless of whether she's desexed or not, you should take her to the pound

    Harvey

Harvey's death has been reported in the Canberra Times, TV news and radio, with John Hargreaves MP interviewed as well and supporting a ban of public fireworks. Let's hope

    Harvey

Thanks everyone. CBL, Harvey came from DAS - first known as 'Shifty' but that was so far off the mark that we changed it. The Canberra Times and Win News are running his story, with the RSPCA calling for better planning for fireworks displays because of it. At least his death might make a difference
  7. I've just had a bitch done, she came to us as 'desexed' but came into season a few weeks later. Our vet agreed to do the operation, it was a couple of days in, and she's fine

    Harvey

Last night Harvey went for a walk with his carer. With all the media beat up about the torch relay coming to Canberra, I'd seen nothing about the plan for a fireworks display last night. Neither had his carer, if she had, she wouldn't have gone out. Harvey has never been bothered by fireworks before, or anything else for that matter. But I guess that being out on the street when it all starts up is a different matter. His carer tried so hard to hold onto him, but Harvey got loose, ran three blocks in a panic and straight in front of a car. Dead instantly. He was an absolutely gorgeous dog, the biggest smooch, he loved everyone and always had a lazy grin on his face. He was a brilliant ambassador for greyhounds, and many people fell in love with him. I'm so sorry, fella. Run free at the bridge
  9. "If there's a hole, stick your head in"
  10. Run free Houndee  So sorry warley
  11. staffyluv, it's a number of months for full recovery - starting with very little exercise and slowly building up. Stella's been through two, if you want any info  The local ortho specialist (in Gungahlin) did her second leg, and fixed up her first one after there were problems.
  12. Thank you - completely understand the logistics with long distance and training. I'll hopefully be in touch!
  13. Hi Peter I've been looking at your site with interest, as I'm interested in getting into SAR with my next pup. I saw that you had an ACT member, sad to hear that they're no longer involved - I was wondering how someone down here would be able to get involved in training etc. I'll keep a look out for your new website cheers Paula
  14. I'm so sorry Trish Such a beautiful boy - run free at the bridge, fella
  15. I do that when recalling my greyhound - she comes in at an absolute sprint and skids into the sit in front. Hasn't hit me yet
  16. Sorry can't help with info on the scans, but I know someone with a ridgeback x, she has has dermoid sinuses removed and they keep recurring.
  17. It does. My old boy was on the injections, however we were given cartrophen capsules for our dog after her knee surgery.
  18. The cream is Tacrolinus - it wasn't approved when I was using it so was only available for 'experimental use' via the doggy eye specialist who visits every few months from Sydney (he was getting it made up at a pharmacy in Vic). An article I found on the cream, though not about doggy pannus: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/07/19/...main54955.shtml It's expensive ... from memory about $160 for a very small tube, however the first tube lasted a couple of months and once the dose decreased... so did the cost per day. I can't remember if it was required with the drops, but I had to wear gloves with the cream as it has been shown to cause cancer with prolonged exposure. The amount we had to use decreased dramatically after a couple of months (both drops and cream).
  19. Not off the top of my head but I've emailed my friend, will let you know
  20. I saw these in a greyhound mag: http://www.handicappedpets.com/acc/nobite/ Wouldn't help poor Cody though I'm thinking it might be good for the greys! Stop those between-the-leg zoomies when wearing a bucket - owwwww!
  21. My friend's grey has pannus and gets drops and a cream (which was relatively new when he was first diagnosed). Quite pricey but it lasted for some time. I had him living with me for 7 months - after a few visits to the eye specialist, the treatment was scaled back - and the specialist said that the treatment did seem to have reduced the problem, not just halted it's progression (and also stated that he'd never seen that happen before).
