QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Owner and rescuer 5. What is the general temperament/personality? We've had a fair few greyhounds pups come through as well, and they've ranged from 'normal type' pups that need the usual supervision, amount of work etc, to the very easy, not getting up to mischief pups (River's one - yippee, but have had others), and never had screamers (thankfully ). Most of the dogs we've had come in have been lovely dogs, settle in well, happy by themselves or with others. I fully agree that some people do have a misinformed 'all greyhounds are gentle angels' idea, which isn't true - there are individuals that aren't suited as pets. We've had a fair number of enquiries for people to surrender dogs, and when we speak to them, or see the dogs, we say we won't take them as we wouldn't rehome them. I've also had people contacting us after getting a dog direct from a trainer, as it hasn't worked out. Some dogs are easy going and laid back, some are more work/more active/more dominant, some dogs zip around like brainless chickens on steroids. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? Some people think 'greyhounds are couch potatoes therefore they never get off their mat' - they do get up and they can be bloody active, even if it isn't usually for long. But they don't need a long walk, and will be quite happy if they have to skip a day. They'll also enjoy a trip to a fenced paddock, however don't expect to be there for long, as they'll do a few zoomies and then line up at the gate to go home, or have a nap under a tree.

If you let us know what you sell, I'll keep an eye out too I'd like to get charged cost price on everything, please - plus maybe 5% on top for yourself
-
Exactly. Ask for an explanation of each and every charge if you want, and choose to buy or go elsewhere. If you think that all vets are too expensive for you, the (here comes the old chestnut), don't get a pet. Why are vets being singled out as the only business that has to work at a loss?
-
Simply contact all of them, explain they're charging too much, and you expect them to significantly lower their profit margin.
-
Is that how it's supposed to work? Man, I've been accepting prices given to me by vets, doctors, mechanics, grocers, newsagents, service stations, butchers.... damn, never thought to go in and tell them I expect a big discount...

Did she go to your vet when you got her out?

Dehydrator recipes - boil liver with aniseed powder, cool and slice about 5mm, then dry (I do overnight); bash turkey fillets until thin (10mm) and dry (~24 hours); mix mince, grated apple and powdered garlic or cheese, roll into very thin rounds and dry (this one makes good training treats).

Daisy, a friend's grey has this and he's on drops and a cream, and it's worked very well - to the point the stuff that grows on the eye has reduced. It was a few years ago now that he was staying with me, and back then the cream was still experimental - it may now be more readily available. I'll find out.

Love it - got it through ebay from the supplier. One of my dogs didn't like pushing against the magnetised flap, so I've removed that and replaced it with flippy bits of plastic until she gets used to it. One of the hounds leapt through at a flat run and broke a piece off the top of the hole, however it hasn't affected how it works. And I'm not surprised it broke, she was running a million miles an hour

I am so so sorry Ruby would have been the happiest hound at your place, and gone doing something she loved. Run free at the bridge Ruby, playing zoomies with your mates. I'm so glad I got to meet you, in that short time I could tell what a special girl you were.

What a beautiful old soul. Run free old girl.

If there was a dog in my neighbourhood, breaking into other yards and mauling dogs, I'd be calling up too.

We're getting organic beef home delivered from a local farm, and are getting the liver, heart and kidneys as well. All fine for human consumption so the dogs will be happy.
