  1. We looked after a friend's greyhound for a few months - he used to bury shoes along the fence line taught us to put them away - and if not, we knew where to find them!
  2. Ah, sorry, I took your earlier comment to relate only to taking on a maremma as a stock guardian, not a general comment re rescue placements
  3. Andrea, can you explain why you would always choose an adult?
  4. Steve, you were saying that the maremma will accept whatever you accept. So if you took someone new down to meet the dog, it would accept them being there, but what if you had to go away and wanted that person to mind the place? Would they extend that acceptance to the person when you're not around? Thinking how you would get someone to feed the dog/stock, or do more if required (eg handle the dog if it needed emergency vet care).
  5. Steve, with the pups you have leaving for other types of working homes, are you able to start bonding with other animals at your place or do they just start a bit later? When we move, we're thinking about setting up a big orchard with some geese/ducks, and thinking a maremma might suit. We're going to have llamas and alpacas, but don't want them in the orchard as they'll strip the trees
  6. Couldn't sleep? I would have packed up and gone home
  7. No one is supporting dogs left in cars when it's hot
  8. Dogs aren't set on dogs to hold but to fight. Hunting and dog fighting aren't even close. I have no problem with hunting that's done professionally to get rid of feral pests. And I'm pretty sure the hunters I know aren't serial killers either.

Bye old girl, we'll miss you.
  10. Have they decided on what an 'approved retraining program' means? Because they haven't in the ACT.
  11. We have the pig in mud door and it works well. If you do need to take it out, it's very easy/quick.
  12. Aussie Hero... pthhh... he's a vet.
  13. Cleo, absolutely :D Moops, if you've got some basil that'd be great but really no need, I'll have lots of bits and pieces.
  14. I'd much rather shoot a rabbit for dinner (and yes, I have), than get meat from a poor, sad, stressed animal who ends up whacked into a nice, neat plastic package for the supermarket.
