Thanks K9 Force For Your Victorian Seminar

LL: K9: :D @ King Steve -
K9: thanks Tommy.. hope your collar is going well... ********************* Raz: K9: there can be many underlying issues that can cause you to lose your dog during surgery. I could give you 5 examples of Chis that died from heart complications under anaesthetic, thats in the last 12 months. Mita: K9: well some vets will debark on request, others want to see council notice etc... Mita: K9: debarking doesnt cause the stress, sometimes barking causes thje stress. Mita: K9: & that is something else that should be considered, the results of debarking vary quite a bit, some dogs end up silent, others end up with an annoying whistle thats worse than the bark, & others have some regrowth that see's the dog barking again...

EA: K9: possibly you have heard of physio therapists using electronic stimulation as treatment on human tissue? Im sure that wasnt done without testing...
-
EA: K9: yes but whomever pays for that survey will influence it no doubt. EA: K9: Eddy, lol, you never cease to amaze me, if I posted info on here that was against an e collar alternative, you would would try & turn it positive. Here is a simple fact, no dog has ever died form an electronic collar, but many have died undergoing surgery (debarking). No matter what you say, those results speak for themselves. The MSDS explains how the product should be used, If your exposed to citronella on your skin, it says you need to wash the area, not if you bathe in citronella, just if it gets on your skin. If its in your eyes, flush with water, not if you have 30 litres in your eyes... If you have ANY. If swallowed, seek medical advice. Not if you drink 30 litres, or 3 litres or 30 mls, if you swallow ANY. Its that simple, in any doseage its not safe... I know by all your posts that you dont like electronics, Im fine with that, but please dont ignore the negatives of the alternatives just because you dont like electronics. I could just as well sell Citronella collars, but I wont due to the risks & side effects that DO occur & the fact that the success rate I have had with these, (which has been backed up by people wanting electonic collars as the citronella failed them), proves them ineffective. It has zero to do with economics... You may benefit from some real life experience, when someone asks you to help them stop their barking dog as council have issued a destruction order. All of the little tricks that you suggested are in most cases, in effective.

EA: K9: It may interest you to know that Citronella is a poison, I have added the links to MY website that contains the material safety data sheet on citronella, I would not spray this on any dog. Barking advice EA: K9: from my actual experience, I would say 80 % is correct, 80% fail rate, 20 % success rate. Also, if you speak to anyone who has had a dog die on the table, they will explain yet another reason why debarking is risky. Something that may also interest some people is that barking causes stress which in turn causes barking thus more stress. Debarking does nothing to reduce stress, as it does not break the cycle, just turns down the volume...

MJ: K9: scoff if you will, there has not been a pig in the sky since I got that phone... (I have the name of the supplier if you like) -
A: K9: I wonder if the dogs accepted it? I wonder if they thought that you saw them ofetn enough? I wonder if they thought they were well cared for? All valid points to make when talking about animal welfare. May I also ask what sort of dog that you have?
-
K9: whilst I agree in part with you, maybe you can explain how you enforce it?
-
K9: all things being equal.... I would prefer to wear an e collar tahn to be separated from my pack... K9: all things being equal, I would prefer to run on an acre than being locked in a pen... You know, many people pen their dogs as punishment, you do it to keep them safe.... I wonder can you see where Im going with this.,.? K9: can you explain your long line method for me? I wonder if it includes the dog running into the end of the long line, & if it doesnt, how you prevent that? K9: If I may make a suggestion? If your trying to sever your fingers, use piano wire, it works slightly better than venetian cord...

K9: if the collar was fitted & the level the dog was trained with was determined by the pain threshold of the handler, I may well agree with you, but as its notg, its not even slightly relevent. There are two reasons why collars should be put on your own arm first, 1. would be to show you that; at the point where current flows, which will be determined by your bodies electrical resistance, there is no pain only a tingle. the second would be to remove the myth that pain must come from these collars. The level the dog is trained at, using my method, is where the DOG can just percieve it. Nothing to do with the level I can just percieve it. How do I know where that is? by the dogs reaction. I can stim a dog thats half asleep & they will simply scratch like a flea bit them or less. ********************** For those who wouldnt use one, I cant see where anyone is asking byou to use one. Each time someone seems to post about a remote training collar pro, those against electronics jump to a containment system flaw, then acuse people of not spending enough time with their dogs. Wow, some people have agendas....

Alison: K9: thanks for the feedback, I hope it helps you for a long time to come. Alison: K9: & this is one of the greatest things you can learn, not so much follow instructions but understand theories so that you can read & diagnose dogs in a new, more understandable way. ********************* Jesomil: K9: HEY! dont tell people Im gentle, it will destroy some peoples stories that I like to rip heads off dogs! Thanks for the kind words. ********************* K9: To all that attended, thanks for doing so & making our Victorian experience a very much enjoyed one. Every one was very friendly & made the 4 days a great experience. With the email feedback I have had from the 2 clubs I worked with Friday & the DOLERS, seems like I will be back to Victoria soon... Very much interested in getting some practicle on field training to follow up the theory we discussed. -

Schutzhund Training..........
Steve K9Pro replied to Cordelia's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: many dogs these days are worked the bark & hold in prey drive in all titles, I believe the true bark & hold should be done in defence drive. -
Schutzhund Training..........
Steve K9Pro replied to Cordelia's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: totally agree, I will add though, its more of a game, I feel its not until the dog is worked in the bark & hold in defence drive that I would consider the dog protective by any means. -
Schutzhund Training..........
Steve K9Pro replied to Cordelia's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: without going into the rules, & the massive amounts of changes that seem to go on forever, this site may give a basic insight. The 2004 Rules are listed there also, I have not kept up with them for years... Though I do believe that there is about to be yet another new set of rules.. Sch Whilst each title does have ob, tracking & protection in it, its thought by many that protection is really only possible in Sch3. Sch1 & 2 are (IMO) only low level courage tests. Sch3 (masters degree) used to mean a good all round dog. -
Schutzhund Training..........
Steve K9Pro replied to Cordelia's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
C: K9: of course you know that Sch 1 is obedience, Sch 2 is tracking & Sch 3 is protection. So when saying you wont rehome a Sch trained dog, you mean titled in Sch 3. Just kiddning Cordy, I remember you said someone told you that once...lol C: K9: this is very rarely the case, dominance bleeds over into aprehension, meaning dominant dogs rarely perform well... The chances of a bite trained dog biting someone are less than a non bite trained dog... It would be a shame not to re home such a well trained animal. -
Do You Lose Your Temper When Training?
Steve K9Pro replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: temper comes from frustration, this comes from having high expectations of the dog, & the dog not meeting those expectations. Trainers that set out a plan, read the dog well enough usually end up smiling, not crying. If your training with the amount of emotion that will bring tears, this will effect your results, your investing way too much into your steps. Think about it like I do, mistakes made by the dog are a great opportunity for me to raise the dogs level of training. If your dog never makes a mistake, you should be either adding more distraction to raise your dogs level of training, or be happy with the level your at... -

K9: the final email was just sent on this topic to secure places, if you havent got it, please contact me asap, but I think everyone is on the list. -
K9: thanks Slowone... lol, Im counting the emails btw T: K9: there is no training method, even those that deal with dogs in high Rank (domiance) drive that require any spirits to be broken.... take care.
-
K9: Angelsun gave some pretty good tips, not much I would add there, however, to gain a "perfect" recall, I would need to see the dog, evaluate the drives etc. NZ Police have been in contact with me for a seminar, its in the negotiation stages.
