  1. K9: yes, those of us who can train are always envied by those who cant.. lol... K9: well you can see why some of us may not be popular. lol...
  2. K9: my dogs are beyond their help.... lol..
  3. K9: when speaking to someone the other nite, when they mention me at their club, people just put their head down & walk away.. lol... Hanrob is one place you can go to... If I were to go to Hanrob, I would only go if Steve A was training...
  4. K9: there is no such thing as a harsh correction collar, many timid( weak nerved) dogs gain confidence in some circumstances & need collars such as prongs. Harshness comes from how you use it. K: K9: there are many facets to this statement, one is that a very hard dog will recover (genetically) from a correction without praise, but a softer dog will not or at least will take longer. Praise is free, no need to restrict it. Dogs training in drive work best with the simple rule, drive - compulsion - drive. without this model you will have a dog that has turned on nerves often in drive training. K: K9: this also turns on the dogs nerves, it only suitable if you understand the nerves of the dog
  5. K9: lol, it wont change the dogs outward appearance other than the fact the dog may not display aggressive body language. K9: yes & its harmless as its simply a balance of hormones. K9: they may benefit if there is a hormone imbalance...
  6. K9: think we will leave the old type behind, lol...
  7. K9: suitable for all dogs, incl desexed bitches.... Commonly known fact that desexing female dog can raise / aggravate / increase aggression.
  8. Tarka: K9: I am quirte happy to do it as many times as you need, & maybe a few more, lol. Keeps my hair up & that wild look in my eye constant...
  9. K9: Give you people 5 minutes alone & look at you go..... lol... Your leader steps away for a moment & your all wild! I need to put some more distraction work into you lot.... lol. Glad everyone enjoyed the nite, really nice dogs. Could have easily slipped a few dogs into my car & brought them home with me.
  10. K9: I have worked with a number of people & talked to a few more that have tried this option, each one of them felt that it made a considerable difference. The cost from memory was around $120.00, the implant lasts approx 6months.
  11. I guess its a problem if you want to keep the cushions, but it wont effect training. This is usually an indicator that the dog isnt getting enough stimulation though...
  12. K9: As far as Vern goes, I have never seen the guy train, I only have heresay. I would never judge anyone on heresay. If someone has personal experience with him, their post might influence me. A: K9: If your looking for high level results, & want to make "food drive", giving the dog some of his meal during training is common. Reducing the size of the previous meal will help food drive also. A: K9: Through an intermitant reward system, this can be eliminated... YB: K9: Many of the worlds top competition trainers who use food drive do this. There is no issue with this. YB: K9: Thats out, the thought process of a dog doesnt work that way, they are being rediculous. YB: K9: These people have made a mistake, they are trying to make a non food motivated dog motivated by food. They are trying to make a dog fit into their training program, when its the other way about. That makes about as much sense as a dolphin trainer glueing a fin on a dog... But having said that, my dogs fast one day per week, for their health. **************** YB: K9: I agree & *I* would be stressed, but Im not a dog nor is a dog a human. Its a mistake to treat a dog like a human, they arent human & it's demeaning to the dog to do this.
  13. K9: cruelty is in the user, not the tool, if peope tell me how cruel a prong collar is, it paints a clear picture how they used it...
  14. K9: without sounding robitic, its my toy, the dog can capture it sometimes, but only through me. That differs from sticks as the dog never gets the satisfaction from sticks as I put in the toy.... One person could throw a stick, if I have my ball & string, the dog wont even see it, if I recall when the dogs in chase, the dog will turn.
  15. Have PMd the address, please email me if you havent got it... [email protected]
  16. K9: I have sent the emails to those that are coming to the workshop & those that arent, there is one other email that has been sent to those on standby if someone drops out. We will have less than 20 people attending, so that I can meet everyone & work plenty of dogs, there were 113 people confirmed that they wanted to come, which in no way could we accomodate. My apologies of your didnt get in, I spent hours working out the list. If you sent me an e-mail CONFIRMING you wanted to come, you will have either, an email saying your in, an email saying that your on the standby list, an email saying that we couldnt fit you in. If you dont have any email? email me.... Thanks
  17. You can also put a hankerchief or similar under the reciever between the dogs neck to dampen vibration, but if your try both stim & vibration, you will see that every dog will prefer the stim...
  18. K9: will PM the addrsss very soon... Just finalised list for Vic workshop...
  19. Yes or ask the VCA to provide another solution that will work....
  20. K9: I understand your club concern with stim collars, however, many dogs that I have tested, probably 80% plus fear the vibration of the collars, it takes a considerable amount of time to get them over the feeling before they can work with the collar, they train much easier with a stim collar. The stim is adjustable, the vibration isnt...
  21. H: K9: for my goals, & for Lablovers goals, no toys what so ever. Toys in this arena become tools, & we dont allow the dog to use our tools.. lol
  22. Mel774: & then... Mel774: K9: I feel the first quote accurately covers a large section of Delta trainers, there is their way, & the wont hear or allow any other... At least the NDTF encompases every method of dog training... Thats called accpeting, not denying... People come to me with a vast array of tools, it makes no difference if I think that tool is of any use or not, thats what we use if it is working. That means people with clickers, check chains etc turn up & they are welcomed equally. Mel774: K9: Maybe thats because you wont allow certain types of training suggestions or tools? Your welcome to contribute any time to any discussion, I will say though that, if your giving improper advice that hasnt worked, wont work, or will endanger the dog or handler, you will be challenged on it.
  23. K9: when the toy is turned into a prey item, you should not leave toys around to play with LL. Sticks & other items wont ever be as valuable as the ones you put movement into, if you start using many toys, your dog will loose focus.
  24. K9 you cant train a dog in drive when it has no drive... no matter what method you use...
