M: K9: the people who own Yami would love to see a copy... You could also load a clip or two of some of the dogs somewhere, people would really like to see it... -

C: K9: He came to the workshop & everyone didnt want to be lumbered with him, I said in the opening comments that he would be the dog I would want to train, he was the most trainable dog there.... I didnt train him either, you have someone else to thank for that! ;) -

K9 Force Handlers Workshop

K9: Thanks for all the kind words, it was quite a full on workshop trying to make sure everyone was getting results with their dogs.. We got just about everything covered that I wanted to but the best part of the workshop for me was seeing everyone get results with totally untrained dogs. Its important to remember that, not one dog was leash pulling at all by the end of the day, & most of them started as bad leash pullers.... Some people spend months with their own dog only to fail at this simple task, all you guys did it with new dogs before lunch time, actually in less than an hour... Very well done... A few people handled Yammi, I will try get some pics of her. This was great therapy for a dog with serious fear issues... She was feeling very positive & walked very well on a loose leash by the end of the day, her owners were extremely impressed by the way she was handled & how much she improved... L: K9: he is a little lethargic for a puppy, but he did start to work nicely in food drive... I think you did well.. Sas: K9: He was really showing some excellent attitude heeling with you, he was loving it! T: K9: Leonard is a great dog, but I will say that if you seen him the firts day he came to me all woudl agree he was a nightmare.... Nice enbough just way to exuberant... He was like you seen him after only about two hours training.... T: K9: Yes great to remember it was one day only, imagine where you could be if you run this training every day for a week? G: K9: Only goes to show what is possible with good pack drive... J: K9: Yep its really important to recognise the improvements we make... M: K9: I believe everyone in attendance can now demonstrate "the magic" on a new dog... ************************************* M: K9: Out of this one came the idea for a training in drive workshop, maybe half a day or more in the near future. The next handlers workshop will be in Victoria, I would say late May... I will be settling dates for the Vic stuff this week I hope... I havent got another one of these planned here in NSW at this stage as there are so many other great topics I have planned. The SAR one is next, only a few places left to go so if anyone wants to see a great 2 day workshop, get in now.... -

R": K9: there are a few different tests, the level of test is dependant on the goals for the dog. For eg you need more solid nerves for things such as protection work than you would need for sport work etc... If your going to train your dog for obedience in prey drive, you want enough nerve to make sure that the dog will stay in prey drive under distraction, for eg other dogs barking, road noise etc... If it was for true protection, I use the stake out test to eval nerves... ******************** Cindysmum: K9: In fact Tina your the master.... I only demonstrated what could be done, from there its all you.... Well done... ******************** AB: K9: yes, Im just Mr. Fixit! -

K9: Just wanted to say, Brooke, that dog of yours is begging to be trained in drive. He has the perfect nerves & drives that you need for this work... His ability will be unlimited trained through this method... -

K9: Thanks everyone for the kind words both here & via email... The dogs went well for me, specially the Lab, what a turn around hey? Happy to make the trip again should the need arise... -
K9: I guess what Im trying to get at is, you may have some success with your dog, but as Im talking about general results with hundreds of dogs, its a littel different. For example, last nite someone brought a long a beautiful Lab, very exciteable & a leash puller, with halter... The lady had been trying to sort this problem, not sure how long, maybe not as long as six months. Her dog lunged, pulled etc etc... I fitted a martingale collar & the dog stoppped pulling for me & then the owner in under 3 minutes.... Distraction was added & the dog was able to be handled with one finger after that. These results arent outstanding, they are typical... As I have mentioned, many dogs dont like them, many shut down, many are highly distracted & the risks of injury to the dog are higher than I am happy with. This is not the same with other tools.

MW: K9: Training in drive is simple when you know the steps, it depends what results you want to achieve. I demonstrated training in drive with a GSD last nite at the info nite, people got a small insite to what it looks like... Last year I did a 2 day seminar on Training in drive that was comprehensive.. Depends on how much you need to know,...

Triggers/drive Initialisation
Steve K9Pro replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
MJ: K9: I like to build drive peak before asking for any response, so I have a boot full of drive to start with then start building focus, I found when I teach lower drive dog how to get the toy (prey drive satis) then increase drive, the dog becomes frustrated as it has already offered behaviour... Its something that you need to see rather than me tell you as such.... -

M: K9: she will get past it when you teach her how to turn off the stim... S: K9: why not? S: K9: not always possible when distance is a factor... S: K9: not so these days, look into modern training & you will see the advances that have transpired are great. -
High Level Training With Weak Nerved Dog
Steve K9Pro replied to jesomil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
AG: K9: sure, I see a dog in food "drive" when it has "drive", excitement & deperation for the food in a positive way.. Many people simply show the dog the food, ask for the command to be completed & then pay the dog off for the work, I dont. I teach the dogs to catch the food, from my mouth or thrown from my hand... Then when I ask for the command, the food is dropped just before the dog could possibly succeed & led away from the food without eating, then given another chance, the focus & reponse is much better... ******* Food drive is more than a learned situation in which the dog knows how to get food with a certain action, its high desire, adrenalin driven & a subconscious reaction to the food (stimuli) -

K9: go back & read the manual I wrote. You need the first three steps to overcome the dogs association with the no bark, the dog will need more guidance too.... You never start with the sit.... the dog can get confused as it has no movement.
