  1. K9: Ok I have had a great response to the comp, but I know some people are trying awfully hard to get that great shot, so Im upping the ante.... 1. The comp will now close end of July... you have 1 month... 2. Any dog pic is now enterable... 3. The orig prizes are still available, but on top of that I will run a poll & whomevers photo is judged the winner will recieve a voucher to the value of $100.00... You can use this for anything I do, training or equipment, workshop entry etc etc... So what are you waiting for??????? mail them to me [email protected]
  2. HG: Yes he's snapshot of the event does include a lot of me. I will not know how I will react when another dog comes into the picture but experience tells me I'm usually pretty calm. K9: It will be imperative that you be yourself as you were before... This is easily done if you follow my rules, here are some things to remember... Make it a game. Good trainers always win the game... There is only one sure way to win every game..... Cheat... You need to control the other players in this game, in other words, dont stumble accross another dog, put one there, one that you trust (ie own the other team)... Then be yourself & repaint the picture in your dogs head...
  3. K9: yes she should be in drive the whole time...
  4. K9: take a look at the first post, it details some of the benefits there...
  5. K9: remember that there is no reason this cant be done inside, provided you want you dog fed inside... K9: correct... K9: thats fine, this will indeed charge the clicker, but remember you will then always need it to mark the correct behaviour..
  6. K9: I am not big on those things, unless I think I have to.. Dog trainer, not computer geek... lol.. Littel puppy obviously keeping you awake lol..
  7. K9: not a good idea, since the event you dont want to change his life style, other wise the event will be a "life changing" one... Work or spell... K9: & Im sure you did a fine job, probably saved his life, but in the above quote, there is a lot of "I's"... He may not see it that way. Dogs dont use logic... Dogs become aggressive after an attack largely because they feel they have to protect themselves as you didnt (according to them)..
  8. K9: Oh Myszka, Im sure you can read my tone by now..
  9. K9: Lets keep in mind I have seen not just heard....
  10. K9: ACT workshop progressing nicely, should announce it within 2 weeks, hold on tight!
  11. K9: Gigi was the girl at my drive workshop in NSW that everyone thought worked her dog just like I would... We had a lesson the other day that I think only Gigi can explain... But lets just say I was impressed....
  12. K9: you should build some drive.... spin with the toy... Just seen GIGI reading this thread lol, well are you going to tell us about Zig? lol...
  13. K9: well of course its your fault, you didnt produce the magic wand....
  14. K9: HG, I read the thread & have to say I am sorry for what has happened to you & your dog. I can only imagine having to bury those men if that were me.... Now onto your dog... If you take a look at this web page, its my development schedule in terms of temperament. You will see that the second fear period ends around 16 months. With your dog being 24 months plus?, we can only hope that his temperament had developed into a solid, less volatile state & that this incident will have no effect... What I would do... If he is physically able, I would take him & work him on some sheep, push him & give him a hard day... Reward that day with some quiet time with you at the end, no other people or dogs. This reflection time can be therputic. We have to make sure that your Alpha status isnt damaged as he thinks you didnt protect him... Keep other people, bystanders away on this first day, so the focus / drive satisfaction is pure, not effected by too much distraction... Give him x amount of days break then, (x amount is a few days more than he is used to) Then give him another hard day. After that hard day, take him to meet some people, have them look like the guys did on the day, clothing, etc etc.. View how he looks at them in this state (tired drive satisfied etc) Its now that you will be able to see how he, as a working dog will be effected. Once you know this I can give you the next steps... Good luck... Steve
  15. K9: Hey BP, sounds impressive, remember that this style of training far surpasses other methods as training in drive gives you the power to deal with the dogs sub conscious brain activity... The body reacts before the dog can think, & its all so rewarding, why wouldnt the dogs love it? It gives you a massive boost in the leadership & bonding stakes with your dog, like nothing else on this earth! It calms the dog down as it gets plenty of drive satisfaction, un desireable activities usually calm down or cease without much intervention, as they are seen as less satisfying than drive training....
  16. K9: Hey FP, that sounds great, now imagine where the pup will be if you do the drive development section of the program? Put your two weeks in & reap the rewards... Well done, love hearing the results after the workshops!
  17. K9: These pics are great, but if you havent already, email them to me... Ones with handler are great too.... The Dane ones are excellent, maybe because I can see a massive difference in the dog in 14 days, I must say you have impressed me!
  18. K9: Actually the problem with vibrating collars are that they are quite aversive to the dogs... I havent come accross a dog the was less annoyed by the vibration than electronic stim....
  19. K9: yes thats what I understand to be the case also, whilst the thread is titled "getting annoyng", Scope punching her dog wasnt a reaction to "being annoyed", it was an act of defence. K9: I too agree with this, people who say that if a dog attacked them they would never hit the dog, quite simply have never been really attacked.... A situation comes to mind of when I was on a training field once, a dominant very large breed dog attacked the owner in a rank battle, the dogs goal was to defeat the owner, even if that meant death... People stood by & watched as I ran accross the field (100 m plus).. I grabbed the dogs collar & cut off the dogs air, it never noticed, it had locked onto the lower torso of the owner & was thrashing so hard, the lady was going to end up torn in half... Did I punch the dog? did I ever! was it to teach the dog anything? absoluetly not... It was to save the ladies life. As a side note, with me punching the dog did it let go? Nope... doubt it noticed. I locked my arm around the dogs neck & legs around it waist & choked it unconscious... Took 3 minutes... The dog never let go until its eyes rolled back & it was out, it fought hard until then. The lady lost so much blood, it took three 6ft x 4 ft tarps to cover the blood stained grass... She left in critical condition.. The dog came to after about 40 seconds & tried to go at her again, by that time we had tethered the dog... (This all started as she wouldnt give the dog a food treat btw)... In theory, we can all say what we would like to do, but few of us are capable of acting that way under pressure... I too dont believe in being cruel to an animal either, but there are some times that action is required... As in another time that a guy came over to me when I arrived at the vet to look at a dog... He seen my shirt & asked if I could give him a few pointers... I said sure, he got his Border Collie out of the car & brought it over, I noted it was a little bit hand shy & submissive... I said what the prob? He waited until another dog came out of the vet, his dog made a low growl & he reacted by pulling out a Riding crop & whipping the dog hard as he could accross the face. The dog stopped the aggression (obviously). I stood there silent in a bit of shock, the dog got up from the submissive down & he whipped it again screaming drop!. I asked if I could take a look at the crop, calmly... He said sure & started on about he isnt getting anywhere with the dog.. I said thats because your an idiot, I told him that whipping the dog in the face was barbaric, he disagreed so I whipped his face with it.. He seen the direction of our discussion & left without his riding crop... Now Im not in the habit or whipping potential customers accross the face but in this case iyt was the LEAST I could do... ************************************ K9: Im sure you would diagnose this as a loss of someones temper? That is some what different to some one reacting in defence, wouldnt you agree? K9: no but you admit that your anger got the better of you... You said it right here K9: You may wanna write yourself up a script for some of that Anger management.... I consider that worse than someone who simply reacted in defence. Self defence is a natural reaction of any animal, including us... K9: gee ignorance? Would you not deem someones anger out of control when it "gets the better of them"? As I said its very easy to sit back & use a bit of hindsight to tell people where they have gone wrong, where they should or shouldnt have done something,. & then we can also see when given a little bit of stimulation, even someone versed in behaviour can have something get the better of them... Ease up, as I said earlier, I am certain that Scope is aware that she did the wrong thing, it doesnt need to be rubbed in another several times...
  20. K9: & I hope your gonna enter the photo comp with some oics of your work?
  21. K9: gee that blows.... ********************************************************** Just letting any readers know I have sent an email to those that have emailed me, if you didnt get it, I havent got yours! Let me know...
