K9: lol, no... But have you seen our range of leashes? Best in the world! K9: yep great idea, but main items you will need are: - 1. Open mind 2. Sense of humour... I will be sending out an email by the end of this week to tell you all some more details..
-
K9: just not possible, sort of like saying, I have ten minutes, can you read an encyclopedia to me? lol... Edited to add. Training in drive, even the basics is in depth, one not to be rushed.. You will get the idea of the recall, but the module of the Reliable recall is 2 hours long, & this is based on the fact that people already understand training in drive... You will get the whole picture out of two days...

K9: Competition ends 31st July, I have many pics, get yours in now...!

Triangle Of Temptation
Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: yes, the word yes becomes the verbal marker for the correct action, so is carried on throughout all training... Ok, is the word that signifies that the dog can do what it likes... K9: Keep doing this until both dogs can do a sit/stay off leash for three minutes, then begin the triangle with both dogs in the back yard together,,, -
K9: OK, Im back & there are plenty of places left... Still waiting for many to reply... ********* K9: Ok, this workshop will include basics of Training in drive, loose leash walking & question time. My methods are my own methods, I have developed them from scratch... K9: These workshops are designed to get information to the attendants, not really train dogs, but dogs are welcome & some may even be used in the demos. But bringing a dog is optional...

K9: there is a limit to how far I can go on the net, aggression is a complicated issue & there isnt room for trial & error. It takes me most of a 2 hour consultation to get a clear picture of what needs to be understood before we go anywhere near the dog.

K9: Actually according to the orig poster, its Lord, not expert... K9: sometimes puppies see so much interest in what you do & their primary drive is not food, they will do this, mine would do this still. But they get the hang of it... K9: the answer isnt yes btw, it is harmless if you have everything else under control...
-
K9: yes well dont do that. Its not part of drive development.... K9: lol, dont do this, dont touch the dog anywhere but where I told you, on the body. Where do you get these ideas? K9: dont do this either, it will cause stress as she cant have two items.. ;) Just do exactly what I said & it will work, you can invent your own steps if you like, but dont expect that it will work like my program does.

Teaching A Formal Retrieve

K9: Its not as much about knowing where & how to deliver the item its knowing why so that you may adjust it as you go... -

K9: & others have, just dont push her too fast, she is a pup, baby steps. -
K9: I have seen similar things show results too, in fact I used something simlair until a few years ago when I found that I got some results, but never removed the aggression totally. K9: what often happens though is that the dog enters drive peak & in this frame of mind, there is no data recording so the positive experience is not remembered. If though that the event turns to aggression, defence drive motor pattern is run & what is remembered is that aggression is still a useful tool. K9: thats great news, as I said, I used & documented similar until only a few years ago when I felt that it was a double edged sword, showed early improvement but never "extinguished" the aggression. K9: agreed & they arent meant to, though some people with minor problems that they feel were serious have seen total cures just by using them. Im really glad things are going well for your dog.

Teaching A Formal Retrieve
Steve K9Pro replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: if that is the only thing you saw & or learned then, I guess so K9: I havent heard from you so am not up on your progress, if you bhave a video of your dog & you using the item then please send it to me I will take a look for you.. K9: doesnt this suggest that he values the dumbell more? Didnt you also say that he doesnt mouth in training? only in trials? How does the dog know the difference? If training is different to trialling, then your not training to trial. ;) -

K9: 100 correct, Mysz just needs to get the motivation back by shortening the time ie lowering expectations... I trust Bear is good in the TOT now? -
Teaching A Formal Retrieve
Steve K9Pro replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: yep! K9: yes sort of, but as you see with Pax, its all in the way its done... It helps because the dog has no conflict with the dumbell & you, if the conflict continues, it will go to the toy, not the dumbell & the mouthing will go... -
K9: he will not be trying to protect you as in for your own safety, he may be resource guarding you or be fear aggressive, only an observation will tell. Regardless, its a leadership issue. K9: so if he can do that so easily it wont be commanding any respect when you give him his food so easily, you need to take this much further... K9: this dog is not being protective of you... He also see's himself as the leader... K9: this would indicate that he is fea aggressive then... K9: they are a support program for others that will reduce / elimate the aggression, not a cure alone... K9: this is a mistake, your showing him that you will make him stay in the face of danger... K9: earlier you said he is nervy which is fear? This can only be treated by knowing what the problem is, ie having it diagnosed.

Teaching A Formal Retrieve
Steve K9Pro replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: your probably seeing the endorphin flow at its end as drive withers away... Stress may not be present but conflict over the dumbell value is... K9: Im sure you know that retrieval is taught in separate excercies, this means that each part of the retrieve is separately rewarding or stressing... some of it he obviously likes. From what you say you have been trying to sort this for months? Trust me its what I say it is.... K9: uh huh... K9: this isnt mouthing, its disobedience... K9: this isnt related... Your dog needs to have less value for the item & you need to retrain this in prey drive, I absolutly guarantee its where your probelm is... For formal or professional work, you need to work in one drive only if you want pro results, not some food (click), some pack (praise & tug of war {this will cause greater conflict with your dog A}) some of other things, train in prey only. -
Triangle Of Temptation
Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: twice a day is fine... No food should be given that is ever outside the triangle... It will make the triangle seen as a pain... K9: no you havent moved past it as you lost drive... You went to fast asked too much... You may be building time, but your pup isnt... K9: you are not supposed to, your supposed to get split second attention, then the sit, then the stay, attention for longer periods will come in THESE excercises... 5 seconds is too long at this stage... I guess this was my mistake I wasnt talking to her. K9: no, the mistake is that you are asking too much, back off her & she will surge ahead. -
Triangle Of Temptation
Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: Something is wrong, she isnt in food drive... K9: where does it say that she needs to look at you for 10 - 15 seconds plus? If you were trying to build up long eye contact, you would repeatedly "mark" her with the yes word.... K9: which proves she isnt in drive... Drive means that she will be recieving subconscious stimuli & this is why they learn so fast in the triangle K9: no "on angle", by her side. Every time.. K9: the desired outcome for step one is that the millisecond the dog looks at you it heres & learns the word yes. Through its own actions. As soon as you have achieved this, you go for a momentary sit. Not 10 - 15 seconds of nothing... K9: thats a later excercise, the dog hasnt got the hang of it & your at 10 - 15 seconds... This is a mistake.. K9: yes. K9: she is not hungry, or she would eat it...
