All Ndtf Students
Steve K9Pro replied to Herr Rottweiler's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: I would just like to add, I am not sure whether the NDTF creates this or attracts this but... I have met maybe 70 or 80 NDTF trainers/students etc, each & every one seemed to have a great open mind, positive outlook & really enjoyed learning, really great attitude & thats a must in this line of work... I cant think of one workshop I have run where there wasnt at least one NDTFer, always expanding their knowledge. Out of the few certifying organisations there are in Australia, NDTF get my vote... :p & yes I suppose it has nothing to do with the thread, but even Im allowed off topic once in a while -

Prey Drive Control & Focus..
Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: yes you want the only stimulation the dog recieves in the drive development section to be from you... Dont swap drive rewards food & prey, in my opinion, it only weakens the dogs perception of the reward. -

Prey Drive Control & Focus..
Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: Hey CL, dont be discouraged... Your dog has been taught to sit for food, this is in drive initialisation, focus... So the dog thinks that you want him to sit not lunge.. Keep it up he will break focus, its always a little slower when the dog has had previous training... Remember to reward with the drive reward more often for a dog with less drive... -

Steve K9Pro replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: The dog will be on a 15 foot leash, when he captures it, we show him no interest & move him on the leash in a procedure known as helicoptering... K9: you will create what I call the "circle of control" & thats a bad thing for TID... I will show you -

Rspca Investigates Dog Squad's 'cruelty'
Steve K9Pro replied to phatdex's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: Thats the point of coming along to the workshops, hard to "se" anything on a forum... K9: Smoke & Mirrors? Are you saying Im a magician? lol... K9: Maybe you might want to see the damn good results others are getting before you evaluate your success... K9: yes we have, & you ended the last one with saying that you would come along one day, I see you have renigged on that... K9: yes, but you talked of 3KV, thats voltage... smoke & mirrors perhaps? People would be more turned at the mention of 3000 volts... K9: the problem here is, your talking about the theory of electricity, I am talking about training dogs, on a dog training forum... You can theorise all day, & in the time that it will take you to sprout about pre lim voltages, I will have the dog trained... K9: Easy Pedastel boy! gee for an expert you really are mucking this up... My training in drive programs, triangle of temptation (or triangle of smoke & mirrors you migh call it), four quadrant dog training program, NILIF etc etc are all non correctional... Seems you have not sat back & watched enough.... I am happy to use truly motivational programs, I designed my own, but I am not niave enough (or pig headed you chose) to believe that one method or style works for every dog. My goal is to give people results with any dog, pleasing people like you fall way down on my list of things to do... K9: so your bothering us lot because my website doesnt say "Im not a positive trainer?" lol... You really need to get out more.... -
Rspca Investigates Dog Squad's 'cruelty'
Steve K9Pro replied to phatdex's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: we all know training is practicing for what we might encounter, so they should also remove the chances of bad guys firing guns around dogs then too... K9: I wonder why they would never have asked BEFORE supplying dogs the test procedures. I wonder did they think they would be supplying dogs for the Police so that the dogs could walk little old ladies accross thye street... K9: why make comment then? K9: This may come as a suprise to you, but Im sure this has been looked into... K9: do these gadgets include electric fences? K9: you seem to forget our last discussion on e collars? 3 KV may be the unloaded voltage, but as the collars arent used unloaded, it isnt relevant.. K9: I guess you call an email a text mime message? :D You call them shock collars as you have a point to push... I also cant see where anyone asked you to use one.... You may full well be able to design an e collar, that does not mean you would have any idea how to use one... Maybe the last thread http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?...p;#entry1007874 will jog your memory... K9: then why a few paragraphs ago did you say that they should be banned? K9: give (dedicated) people some credit... As I have trained people to use e collars, many people without problems, I know it can be done. K9: as I have seen people ruin dogs with no more than a clicker... So? Why not talk of the success stories, oh yeah, they dont prove your point... I have seen people buy my manual on e collar training & with nothing else turn out a very well trained dog in a short period of time... K9: thats fine with me.. K9: Careful you dont fall off that pedestal... K9: when one teaches one self how to train, isnt that known as the trial & error method? K9: of course we do, by the reaction on the dog... K9: when your self taught.... K9: great example, in the hand there is no response from the person as there is no feeling, on the tongue there is a reaction, as it can be felt. K9: what makes you think the Police know how to use them? Its easy to say that we should ban this or ban that because YOU dont need one or have a dog that does, that doesnt help the dogs that do need something more than your slight verbal correction. Restriction of e collars I would fully support, as long as that restriction is only where the people nwanting to use them must recieve professional instruction. -

The Dog Listener - Brisbane Seminar
Steve K9Pro replied to Fraelighte's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: Well Im not a whisperer but if I can comment, the reaction seen in many dogs when they have lost their leadership position, is usually created one of two ways... 1. The leadership was taken by force. 2. The leadership was taken via something like the nilif program & it hasnt been made clear to the dog that it can still have what it wants, it just has to work for it.. The dogs see's itself in isolation & behaves like an isolated pack member, quiet & subdued... -
How Do You Classify 'nerves'
Steve K9Pro replied to wyvernblade's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: I guess everyone looks for something different, but if I seen a dog laying down in a relaxed state, & a pot was dropped with no warning & the dog didnt move, I would be checking its hearing... If I gave the dog a comand to watch something then there was a pot dropped, now that may be different.. I would also say that if a dog that startles at a pot being dropped unexpectedly has nerve problems, then I would say that all or just about all dogs have nerve problems.. -
K9: FD, you sent me a thousand didnt you? lol (Flames Daddy put a massive effort into this comp)
