  1. Congratulations! She is beautiful
  2. I can't stand when people say confirmation instead of conformation
  3. Poor little puppy how heartbreaking I used to feed carcasses straight out of the bag until a couple of years ago someone told me to make sure i either remove or snap the wishbones before feeding to the dogs, im so glad i was given this advice. A bit of a 'shut the gate after the horse is bolted' idea but to prevent it happening again if you dont already id start telling your current and future pup people to do this also
  4. Depends on how good your vet is and how good their ultrasound machine is too, my vet has an ancient dinosaur of a machine and doesnt like to scan until pups are at least 5 weeks
  5. Deepest sympathy to you and your family
  6. Only an AQIS approved vets can do the Babesiosis blood test/skin scraping, flea treatment & worming (which has to be done within a certain time frame before the pup flies), it costs approx $300 just for the vet work, let alone travel costs to get to the AQIS approved vet nearest me, export certificate, holding onto the pup the extra time etc etc JetPets are invaluable
  7. JetPets here all the way we tried to fly a pup with Dogtainers once, they booked the flight, we get to the freight company we had to drop the pup off at, only to be told that the airport the pup was going to does not take animals after a certain time, and the flight the pup was just about to go on arrived at his destination way after the accepted time. They said Dogtainers should have known that! We were never contacted by Dogtainers again and the new owner of the pup had to fight them for a refund. We had to drive back the 4hrs home and had to re-book the flight a few days later. With JETPETS... and have never looked back.
  8. I cant believe how much its been quoted to amputate his leg my vet would do it for a couple hundred dollars if that!
  9. "ONLY" congrats How are the bubs Zoiboy?
  10. go for it he deserves it i dont have one but they look nice
  11. omg how much does she luv them but so sorry to hear you lost a bub ;) Any pics of their dad or link so we can look at him?
  12. I have a Bull Terrier girl here who was bitten by a white tail on one of her back toes a few years ago when she was young. Her whole leg blew up, and the flesh on the toe started dying, the pad fell off, the nail fell out and she was on Antirobe tablets for a few weeks, plus i gave her foot salt baths a few times a day, the toe was saved but its slightly thicker than the rest, and the nail has never grown back. Vet said the could be deadly to dogs if they bite around the head and neck I was bitten by a white tail a few months ago on the side of the thigh and could barely walk for weeks and had a very gross hole in my leg My 7yr old son was bitten by a redback on the foot a few months ago also and his foot and leg up to his knee blew up, had to be on antibiotics for a week and its now fine. I will kill any poisonous spider when i find them.
  13. Just on the nose poking thing, when im teaching my puppies not to bite, i can see they SOOOO want to bite but they know theyre not allowed to so they poke with their nose instead
  14. Very much sounds like my life gillybob even down to the pruney fingers and cats except we have more than 600 cows, heifers, calves & bulls. 300 milking atm. 30 swing over. Oh i wish someone would breed cows who only made milk on weekdays... My very first dairy job a few years ago the boss would love to stir up the bulls. One bull in particular, until one day the boss did his usual lunge at the bull as he walked passed him, and the bull lunged back in the end, he was so nasty (and over 6ft) that the day we had to bring him in to go on the truck we had to bring him in with the tractor we were not safe in anything less! Argh, Jersey bulls, nasty blighters they are. Though Jersey cows are the sweetest things, and they do prefer females milking them im sure. After 2yrs of just stud Holsteins we finally have 3 special stud Jersey cows. I was worried how theyd settle in to a herd of monstrous Holsteins but they stick together and fight back when they need to. Whether they get in calf is another thing, one is 12 yrs old lol. That is a nightmare of mine, one of the oldies dropping dead. We have a handful in their teens, i dont know how on earth we would get it out.
  15. Very true. But even then, pet ones grow up to have less fear of humans and can be big pains in the behind! Im looking out the window at one now and its a heifer!
  16. The red one looks like he will probably turn black as he gets older. We have a few red and white stud Holstein's here and when theyre born they have a bright red clear coat, your calf looks quite dark. Biggest bull and steer we've come across was a father and son, they were both 6ft 3inches at the withers, we have quite a bit of frozen semen from the bull, his daughters are also very tall. The steer is broken to saddle.
  17. What about the breeder's who state on their ad's that no-one with a free email address or a private number or only a mobile number can enquire? Im not going to waste money calling someone on my mobile because my land line is private! And i would say a large amount of my pup people have free email addresses too! It does get tiresome when i put all info of my pups on my ad or website with a photo and still get enquiries asking me about something that is on the ad, or the ones who never reply back after intial enquiry, but i do list all email address that enquire so i can look back on them when i get new enquiries
  18. after being out with friends last nite & also asking there thoughts on heat pad versus heat lamp, the consensus was heat pad as a few have said they cooked a couple with the lamps & they found heat pad to be a better fit for them. I still like the idea of a heat lamp & haven't ruled it out yet, but also have heat pads on hand incase all hell breaks loose with the lamp I too thank everyone who has replied to this thread, I've learnt more here then I could've ever imagined to you all. :D They must have had the lamp too close!!! Set it up then sit there for as long as it takes, adjusting the height of it according to what the babies are doing and how warm the bedding underneath gets, cant cook them if you have the height right!
  19. We have a heat lamp which is good, 1 of hubbies many purchases when he discovered ebay A few other people have also recommended heat lamps rather then heat pads & it makes alot of sense. With the xposed wood on the melamine if you were to purchase some of that metal stuff (can't think of the name or rite phrasing :D ) would you still have to seal the wood even though it was covering it (hope u understand wat i'm on ) sorry having a clueless moment. I dont think my Kenol one has anything else under the metal edging Those strip's Ish suggested look good!
  20. We have one of those heated Kenol ones, we figured it was a good investment as it should last forever, but since 'discovering' the heat lamp we do not use the heater in the whelping box. I highly recommend the heat lamps! We are lucky and know a pig farmer who has oodles these for his piglets and he gave us some so all we had to buy was the lights. If you get the melamine i would try and make sure the edges where the wood is bare you seal it to make it waterproof as it may warp when it gets wet from being washed. If we have 2 litters at the same time we dont have a 2nd whelping box so we use a large plush round dog bed bought from Petstock, we take out the padded mattress and replace with paper, blankets etc and hang a light over half of it. We have to be careful though as it has no rails to guard against pups being squashed thats all, and pups cant stay in it once they start making a mess as it takes ages to dry.
  21. Sounds like a bug, i would put all pups on Clavulox drops for 5-7 days. Make sure you always scrub your hands before and after touching them, sterilise their bottles, clean their bed regularly, and only use preboiled water for making their formula. Personally i think Divetelac is rubbish and would never touch the stuff again, i use Wombaroo and never had any problems...keep pinching their skin to make sure they dont get dehydrated, maybe give them a drink of warm preboiled water in between feeds if they are getting a little dehydrated from the scours... hope they recover soon thats alot of puppies for a first litter your poor bugger
