  1. They actually do have a large foster care network of family and friends helping to house animals so are taking a large amount into foster care as well. Most have very little rescue experience past a couple of months. A pet shop operator/dog breeder, some renting/working on farms, others in town and villages surrounding Griffith so a wide network.
  2. I have two Kelpie x Whippet pups @ four months of age. They are smart nimble but also easily intimidated so depending on your other dogs activity level they may or may not suit.
  3. We have one vet that says he hates opening them up to check as he looks around that long trying to locate what is not there in case it is hidden. He has advised that leave the girl be and wait. Not easy as in rescue you need to rehome them but cannot if they are not definitely speyed. We have access to another vet with ultrasound but apparently there is no definites this way as well. Darned annoying and more regular tatooing would help a lot. But then many tatoos fade and are not visible after a year or two anyway.
  4. This is just a long long road isn't it? Hugs for you all!
  5. Yes I think they should. I had heard that there is a legal distinction between buying a pet (from a rescue organisation) and buying a dog (from a pound). Apparently pets have to be of at least 'pet quality' where as a dog can be of any quality. That's why pounds get away with what they do. I guess we either have a system like QLD, where dogs can be placed undesexed and unvaccinated and some rescues obtain the dogs and sell them undesexed, or we have a system like Victoria where pounds must prepare the dogs for rehoming themsleves and dogs being sold have to be of at least pet quality. By pet quality I mean that the dog is able to be a pet. A dangerous or sick dog wouldn't qualify. A pup would as long as it was healthy. I prefer the Victorian system, but I know plenty of others here on DOL don't like it at all. When I spoke to QLD state government when they were writing the state act a couple of years ago, there were no plans to reform the way that QLD pounds operate. The only drawback I can see with the Vic system is that pounds release only desexed etc which is great but still many are harbouring disease. Also if a pound does sell an animal to a pet home and it does incur added expenses such as treating for parvo and the cost of clean up etc to the general public shouldn't the buyer be entitled to compensation? If it were a breeder or rescue that did this with no support they would have a case to answer I am sure.
  6. To add insult to injury two pups rescued not related by our group and placed into quarantine crashed overnight and tested positive to parvo with two different vets and were PTS. Some transparency about a current outbreak would also be nice although we do accept the risk if know there was an issue there we may have reconsidered.
  7. http://www.areanews.com.au/news/local/news/general/council-deny-blame-for-sick-pound-puppy/2286633.aspx Should councils do more and change their policies to protect animals in their care and the public who are adopting from their pounds? edited spelling
  8. Could MDBA Pacers help? I would if I had room but really do not. I could however put a notice in the RADAR page if required to see if someone could help!
  9. I mised the episode but always love to see what Bill gets up to. He was a lovely puppy to foster all the time ago.
  10. I wonder if this facebook site advocates all dogs sold on here are microchipped and if over 6 months are registered as well? http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=196842030351392#!/pages/Staffys-forsale-giveaway/173991855978143
  11. In the search bar I jsut randomly put a town and buy swap sell etc anything that leads to animals. RADAR like many good rescues has a FB page and even these BSS pages are good for general thing like an ongoing garage sale but not good for exploiting animals. I agree bombarding them from all angles. But I do wonder if local government or the DLG would like to know what is happening, particularly in their back yard. Oh I have found if you try to comment many block you and also one tried to report me to have me booted. Off. I haven't been booted off yet! People in lots of jurisdictions openly break the law by advertising unmicrochipped dogs etc - but in most instances the local councils dont appear to have the resources (or perhaps its just not a priority) to follow these people up for law enforcement. Personally I think they wouldnt need to go all the way with a prosecution, they would get an awful lot of mileage by just sending an official-looking letter to the vendor, or even just giving the vendor a call, and letting them know what law they are breaking, and what the penalties are. In the absence of local governments taking any action, perhaps if people just sent these vendors the same message - "this is what the law says, and this is what the penalty is', a fair proportion would stop doing it - (albeit more out of respect for the penalty than for the law). You could even cc in the local ranger (or just threaten to notify them). I have contacted a few privately and I have at times questioned publicly as have others if the animals were chipped. The response is usually rather agressive and non of you business attitude. I think it potentially is my business as if I was paying as a member of the public I would expect a chip and a vaccination as well lol. But also as I may end up with one of these animals in care because it was unwanted in the first place and rehomed poorly or it has wandered and landed in a pound and cannot be returned to its owner. People breeding a dog pure or otherwise have a duty of care to ensure that they are premanently identified. Sorry it there are lots of typos have had a couple fo really big days with the kids at Yanco Ag and little sleep and I can hardly see the screen!

  13. All those ACD breeders who get "red heeler" puppies out of "blue heeler" dogs are clearly involved in some sort of evil breeding magic. Next thing you know, horses will be coming out whales. Horses that aren't just healers but proper doctors. I think I'd find these ads somewhat less offensive if the people churning out these poor creatures actually took the time to learn a little about them. Back on topic.. given some of the other content on Facebook, I'm not surprised people are using it to sell animals. I probably still wouldn't be surprised if people started using it to sell their kids. Like the rare yellow Border Colies I found.
  14. That one has someone doing $20 dog microchipping Yes that is our group RADAR trying to make a difference in the area. This is our first chipping day, and we hope to do more!
  15. Also illegal to sell puppies un chipped even if they are a cattle dog or kelpie. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Buy-S...152940428073592 http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=344031432019 http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=344031432019 This one tells people the legal responsibilities http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=109009379120513 http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=109002889131176 There are more http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101...f_t=photo_reply http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?g...5172&v=wall this one seems a little better but still has a few sneaking through. Just look people they are popping up all over the place.
  16. It is not ok but no one seems to know what to do, who to approach, etc!! Heartbreaking! I saw another couple one re rare cream and BC puppies $800. Not registered not even chipped and the black adn white ones from the same litter $500. And another one with rare Yellow BCs. I agrued with a byber about rare Blue Staffies and how they are charging more for them. More than a registered breeder. It just goes on and on.
  17. Its not actually illegal to sell an animal on ebay, its ebays policy. Hence no law... i would be much happier if there was a law! Thank for clearing that up but still it is so frustrating when people get away with the wrong thing. And still so many are unaware or ignorant.

  19. I have been keeping an eye on some local Buy Swap and Sell pages and similar ones, All for pets etc. Many have litter and unwanteds to give away and also byber are accessing these as well. Some adminitrators are doing a good job and putting up there that animas must be chipped prior t give away and or sale but most people are flaunting htis and even disputing this is true. Some admins say it is not my responsibility what people put up there. Hello it is your page so I see it as you are responsible. Now if it is illegal to sell an animal on Ebay why can't it be so on pages like these. OOPs not illegal Danni corrected me on that!! Should we all be writing yo the councils concerned pointing people that are breaking the law? I know many councils dont act upon these laws either. Or should we be reporting these pages and if so under what concern?
  20. Thank you , some drip is selling ACD puppies unchipped saying working dogs don't need to be chipped but unless they are actually a working dog on a property they would not come under this. There is a difference to a chip and registration and people ae mixing it up. Also depends on the ranger as I know of a little mutt no bigger than a JRT listed as a workings dog, yes chipped but exempt from registration.
  21. Tigers are rather agressive and will chase. Glad your dogs are fine!
  22. Do working dogs now have to be microchipped. And if nothow do you prove a dog is or is not a working dog? People selling working breeds unchipped claiming they do not have to be but I thought there were changes made recently. This is NSW
