Safe in the Mary Valley

I don't want it too early either, it is nearly an hour for me too How about lunchtime? Or 11? Or 1? Don't care, whatever suits
-
There are usually only a handful of dogs doing ET at any one time, whereas there can be anywhere from 300 to over 2,000 dogs at a show, even a very cursory vet check would be extremely time consuming. Personally I don't think that vet checks are necessary, I am quite capable of judging whether my dog is fit enough to attend a show, I certainly don't require a vet's opinion. The MDBA is always telling us that the ANKC has no right to dictate to us when and how often we can breed our bitches and that these decisions should be left up to the breeders, yet on the other hand they are suggesting that we are unable to judge if our dogs are fit enough to enter the show ring. Sounds pretty contradictory to me. there have been several threads on this forum complaining that competitors take unwell dogs to shows, some have even said that dogs with parvo were taken to a show. whilst you may know when your dog is unwell and act responsibly, clearly some others do not. 2,000?? That does sound like a logistical nightmare. How often are there shows with that many dogs? I wasn't expecting vet checks at show meets to be much more than cursory, just to weed out anything obvious. As Jaxx said, whilst you may do the right thing, others clearly do not

Ah, ok, thank you, that makes sense. So it's entirely do-able then, anyway, to conduct the tests at other events, it has just been seen to be no need for the tests at other events.
-
Why? I'm asking because I have no idea at all & assumed it would be harder for the horses ) The poster meant harder for the dogs than other tests - not the horses. Sorry, I'm still not getting it. Common for me Do you mean that the vet tests that they conduct/ed on dogs for shows are more complex/stringent than the vet tests for horses for their comps?

OT as well, but many horse events (eg endurance, CTR etc) require a vet exam prior to competing & that's been happening for a while now:) Also amazed at the amount of MDBA bashing when, to an uneducated potential puppy buyer (me), they seem to be starting to address breeder's concerns in ways the ANKC doesn't.

Waiting for date to be confirmed

I have a cookbook & a calender & love both of them. Will have to get a couple more calenders as visitors keep wanting to steal mine

F*** So there is in fact no need at all to get $369 every 3 years from every 'breeder' because compliance with the Code of Practice is already legally enforceable. So what's a good idea now?? Point out that incredibly salient fact hasn't escaped everyone's notice to: Poor Joy, who's bravely/stupidly put her phone numbers up??? Or GCCC?
-
*facepalm* And sorry, yes there are already enough laws in place that could be policed to get rid of puppy farms. *backs slowly out of thread*
-
Ahhh, ok, so no need to put extra laws in place when Dogs QLD could actually just do some work, with existing laws. Got it now, thank you
-
Are you saying that part of the laws for getting the 'breeder's number', will also include a law banning you from owning an entire dog without a 'breeder's number'? Or is there such a law already in place? And obviously I am probably using law, instead of by-law, but I'm easily confused about that
-
Ahh, well that is a waste of time & money then, thanks Steve.
-
Ahhh, ok :D I also see that any expensive regulations would do this. I was hoping if it is just a matter of applying for a breeder's number, that it should be a fairly inexpensive exercise. Annoying, yes, expensive, no. And those registered with the council simply provide their dog/s rego number & voila!! Here's your breeder's number. And then go from there when Breeder A's number comes up in conjunction with 500 pups/year. Yes, probably too simple
-
Sorry I'm not getting that particular point. So you're saying if I have 5 dogs, but my council says I'm only allowed to have 2 dogs, I'm going to be unable to register my 5 dogs on my breeder's number?? Umm, yep, if that's the case, fair enough. I am NOT saying that I agree with current council dog limits. I AM saying if you are the breeder with 3 dogs over your council's limit, then that is not a very smart choice to start with. efs

Have they actually stated that there will be property inspections before the giving out of 'breeder numbers'??? I was thinking it was more about electronically keeping tabs on how many dogs are being bred by people, to then be able to look at the obviously outrageous numbers. Eg, The number associated with Breeder A, sold 500 pups in 2011. Hmmm, maybe we should go take a look there.

Are There Any Shelters Just For Old Dogs ?
bertie replied to brightonrock's topic in General Dog Discussion
MDBA Pacers has a program for the oldies whose owners have passed away, I'm sure. I think you need to request beforehand though, not sure. They have a lot of marvellous programs -
Here is the link to the page. Have my fingers crossed for you guys.
