  1. Yep, we have rats in our area too. I have purchased some bait stations, and they are in areas the dogs don't have access to, even though you need a key to open them. The baits in the station are threaded on a metal pin and apparently can't be moved by a rat. I know some people do wire them to fences, as the rats often run along the top rung, but it is possible they will drop from the wire if eaten through, or as you said, be carried by possums.
  2. Very sorry Rozzie. What a beautiful boy. RIP Mandrake.
  3. My Staffy has arthritis, and some back problem. He has had the injections, joint guard, fish oil,Vit e and tried a few other things. I also give him Ester C. I have tried him on all of these things separately, and I really think in our case, the Ester C seems to make the most difference. Mild exercise, such as regular walks I think are also important to keep them moving and keep their spirits up. I think it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking they are sore so we don't go out as much, but I have found, if I miss walks with him, he seems worse, and stiffens up. Hope you find success with something. I think it is like with human arthritis, some things work for some and not others. It is a matter if trying things to see which works best, together with regular gentle exercise.
  4. Woo hoo, so glad to read the great news. Glad little Alvin is well and safe at home with his family. :D
  5. I keep checking for good news. I have shared on Facebook. Hope that is okay, to share.
  6. Clyde, so sorry Alvin is missing. Everything crossed here. Hoping and praying that he turns up safe and well.
  7. Poor thing, I hope she is okay. I had the same thing years ago with our dog. I ended up sticking a big painting that my then little primary school daughter had done at school onto the door at dog height. Fixed the problem.
  8. Phew, just read the whole thread. I am thinking of purchasing one for my Staffy and might also get one for my friends dog as well. My friends dog broke through his crate, destroyed the new blinds in the house, destroyed the door, and I think also broke a window. This was all due to fireworks on New Years Eve. We had shocking fireworks here, like bombs and they went on for hours. My staffy measures 66cm around the widest part of his chest, just behind his elbows. Going by the links posted, I am thinking of a large. Can somebody please check that I am choosing the correct size according to those measurements. He weighs about 18kg-19kg. Thanks. :D
  9. Would all the poo laying around be a health department problem? Might be worth a try. It would bring more flies too. Especially with the summer heat. yuk. You poor thing.
  10. Staffyluv, he's lovely. He looks like a real little sweetie. So glad he is with you and your family.
  11. That is really sad. Poor little dog and the family. I don't mind the official fireworks so much, once they are finished, it is all over, but the random street ones are the worse. Some fool let some really big ones off near us at about 3.30am.
  12. I can imagine, it would be very sad. I went outside at about 12.30 to see if there were any strays I could see, and some idiot boy was up the street on a corner, smashing bottles. Hope no scared dogs run over the glass. I would have gone and cleaned it up, but the fireworks are still going on and off, and I can't leave the dogs. Gawd, there are some idiots in this world!
  13. Happy New Year all. Hope there aren't too many stray dogs around. And the ones that are, I hope they stay safe.
  14. It's disappointing that there are losers who actively ignore firebans and put everyone in danger, including themselves!! I know - we would't even let the kids have sparklers tonight -it was 39 today and 41 tomorrow Very lucky you were home, and hopefully they haven't hit anyone else's poor dog who may be left in the yard. We still have the helicopter around, and it is great. Really quietened them down.
  15. Fingers crossed it stays like that for you. It's a bit like a war zone here. ETA Now we have a couple of helicopters to add to the mix. Hope they are lining up the dickheads with the crackers.Probably not, but it seems to have stopped them for the moment. We are close to the Essendon Airport, so not far for the helicopter to travel.
  16. They have been going off here for the past hour. 5 frantic very stressed dogs. Its going to be a long night. Whoever is letting them off is really close, and they are so loud. My poor dogs. I wouldn't mind if it was just at midnight, but this drawn out thing is what annoys me. And then they will go off randomly for weeks.
  17. Aww, that's lovely. Well done for helping him gain some confidence. He is a lucky boy to have a great family. :D Very good boy. I second the photo's request.
  18. You could try calling someone like Jetpets and ask them. They would know where to get them, and would also know if they are airline approved.
  19. R.I.P. Zedley. xxx Hugs to Loraine, very sorry. My thoughts are with you at this sad time.
  20. So sorry. You are in our thoughts at this very sad time.
  21. One in my bed, one in my daughter's bed, and 3 little dogs in a crate together. My daughter and I both got new beds a few weeks ago. My daughter's bed was delivered first, and mine a week later. Monty, my Staffy decided that on the first night of my daughter getting her new bed, he had to sleep with her. He usually sleeps with me. He must have thought the new bed might have been more comfortable. and it probably was.
  22. That's gorgeous. I am so happy it was a happy outcome. I feel the same. So happy, I could cry. Great outcome, so pleased they are re united. Thank you LouBon for the update. Very impressed with the community support and the help they received. :D Edited for spelling
  23. I wonder if this lady will ever get any answers. This Pound doesn't have a great track record with dogs. There was another dog story where an owner wanted to get answers from them over her Central Asian Shepherd last year, and as far as I remember, she couldn't find out much information either. I believe the owner of Pirate, the CAS, had spent 10s of thousands with Solicitors trying to get info and still was not having much luck. This dog was supposed to have been stolen from the pound. I have heard there have been quite a few other questionable things that have happened there as well. There seems to be a lot of complaints about this place, although I don't know any more than what is written in this article on this particular event.
  24. This looks great. It has given me an idea for when we move our cats down to this house. Might have this in some sections of garden, gated off for the cats, and then have catnip tunnels running around the rest of the yard(fencline)connecting to different cat sections. Thanks for posting. :D
