    Kenny

Mantis, I am so sorry for the loss of your boy. RIP Kenny, you were so very loved. He sounded like such a gorgeous boy Mantis, and my heart goes out to you.
  2. I cant help you Bisart buti wanted to say good for you as a breeder to go so far as you are to offer to help these new owners and of couRse the dog you bred, out. from me. Oh, and to let you know that this is Erny posting but I'm using a friend's iPad and it's locked in as her. But i know she would agree with my sentiments on this. Good luck - I hope the 4 days you spend with these people prove to be sufficient. It should be enough to make a big difference on the minor issues you speak of but I hope the dog doesnt have a huge problem in adapting to being out and about for the fact of confinement to a yard during the most impoertant developmental period of its lifetime.
  3. As far as I am aware, there has never been a photo released of the dog. None. I am glad they are having a Coroner's Inquest into this. At least we may find out some facts and explanations regarding the whole tragic incident. Step in the right direction hopefully.
  4. smh.com.au From The Age Coroner to probe tragic Ayen's mauling death March 15, 2012 Get your Free CFD Trial Account Start trading today with GFT. Dog regulations will be under the spotlight later this year when a coroner examines the “tragic” death of three-year-old Ayen Chol. Ayen was killed by a neighbour's dog in St Albans last year in an attack witnessed by several people. The dog's owner has been charged and is expected to contest the charges in court later this year. Advertisement: Story continues below Today, coroner Kim Parkinson said that in the inquest later this year she would examine how Ayen died, the nature of the dog attack, how Ayen came to be confronted by the dog, the arrangement of how the dog was secured and how it came to be at large on the day. She said she would also examine the type of dog involved, how such dogs were regulated and what, if any, steps had been taken to regulate their management before and after the attack. “The circumstances of the death of little Ayen are tragic and has clearly affected everybody concerned in this proceeding,” Ms Parkinson said. “The inquest will be conducted in a timely manner and in a way that will minimise the impact for any further impact of this tragic event on the persons concerned.” The Coroner's Court heard that the dog's owner told police the animal was a German shepherd but the council had supplied information suggesting that the dog was either an American pit bull terrier or a pit bull terrier. Ms Parkinson said that Ayen's mother, who had given a comprehensive statement to police, would not be called to testify at the inquest. But two women who were at the house and saw the attack would testify. The dog's owner will also be required to testify. Ms Parkinson said that any application for him to be excused will be heard at the inquest. The inquest has been scheduled for August for five days. Ms Parkinson said she was trying to ensure there was no significant delay for the family. “In recognition of the distress that the delay may cause the family of little Ayen,” Ms Parkinson said. Two neighbours who had contact with the dog on the night of the attack, four police officers, the council ranger, the veterinarian and a council manager will be among the other witnesses at the inquest. It is listed to begin on August 27. Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/coroner-to-probe-tragic-ayens-mauling-death-20120315-1v60b.html#ixzz1pHjLT2du
  5. With the nappy bags, I just grap a few, and stuff them into the round bag holder(the one that is meant for rolls) that is attached to the lead. If you stuff them in one at a time, scrunched up, you can then just pull them out one at a time. :D Can fit quite a few in as they scrunch up small.
  6. The scented nappy bags are great. I also keep some in the car for little rubbish bags.
  7. Some ACO's in Victoria have the same problem/illness.! Seriously though, I hope the man does have someone to care for him.
  8. That's a good idea. A lot of people don't have the heart or sense to help a lost dog. Some just chase them away. Thank goodness this person was good enough to keep her safe over night and contact the ranger today. Shocking weather we have had too. ETA
  9. Fantastic news. So pleased she has been found. :D Sorry I couldn't offer to help earlier. This is the ending we like to see. Good of the person who kept her safe over night too.
  10. Hope you find him/her. I have shared on facebook.
  11. I don't think it was appropriate. Ot, but all 5 of my dogs went off when they heard the dog yelping. More so than I have ever seen them react to any sound coming from the computer.
  12. Dr Karen Davies has described how “for the first time in 20 years I am questioning if I still want to do this job” euthanasing a sweet natured dog that unfortunately met the current description of a ‘pit bull’. So, why didn't the vet declare that the dog wasn't a restricted breed and saved his life when the legislation accepts breed identification from a vet? I think in the case of this dog, it was either a stray, or surrendered. I think it was a stray. The council had already deemed it to be a restricted breed, and without the owner fighting that charge, there would be not much a vet can do about it. The Vic Standard has recently been changed. Where as before, it was worded that a vet could certify as to the breed of a dog, it now says that a vet can certify that the dog is an Amstaff. This was changed about 2 weeks ago. Tightening the regs.
  13. I am so sorry for you loss. This is so sad. RIP beautiful Skoota.
  14. APBT's come in all colours (except merle and blue) If only the ACO's thought this, we'd have no pitbulls in pounds and thousands would've been saved from BSL! Perhaps they'll add colour to the checklists.... I do shudder to think you feel the BM's you met were absolutely harmless. Though i'm stoked you have a good feel about BM's. Victoria's law covers crosses as well. The only colours mentioned in the Standard blue merle and pure white, and it states they don't come in those colours. From the Standard, "COLOURS All colours and combination of colours are acceptable, with the exception of blue merle and pure white. White feet and a splash of white on the chest are not uncommon on solid coloured dogs." Link to Vic Standard. Victorian Standard for Restricted Breeds
  15. Yep, realise it isn't a human dosage chart, that's is why I posted it. :) Sorry if I caused confusion, I meant that since that chart, there may be some forms of these tablets that shouldn't be cut or crushed so it is best to ask this question when purchasing them from the chemist. :) For example, Polaramine 12hour tabs should not be cut or crushed, but the 6hour tabs, 2mg can be. Just being careful.
  16. This link has dosages for different types of anti histamines. Might be an idea to check with the Vet or Chemist first. I have used anti histamines for a couple of our dogs, and they have worked well for seasonal allergies. Just like with humans, you often need to try a few to find out which one suits the individual, if any. Antihistamine dosage chart cats and dogs Just wanted to add, some slow release tablets shouldn't be cut into pieces, so just need to be careful of that. A chemist could advise.
  17. I'm really upset to hear this. I wish they were being represented by someone who could really help them I have given them contact details for Solicitor, and they have said they will be contacting him. :)
  18. My Mum died in her sleep last year. I dropped my daughter off on my way to the station and my daughter would usually go to school from Mum's house. When I was about to get on the train my daughter called to say she couldn't get Mum to answer the door. Door was locked from the inside. It was about 7.10am. I came back to Mum's and we broke in from the back and found my dear Mum. While my daughter was waiting for me, she knew something was wrong. One of Mum's dogs slept in her room, in a little bed on the floor. This is the oldest of Mum's dogs. When my daughter usually got to Mum's, this dog would run to the door barking to see my daughter. This day, Judy didn't run to the door. We all thought this dog couldn't get up on the bed, she is a little dog. Anyway, my daughter heard her jump off the bed and walk to the door, give a whimper, and then stop. After the police, ambulance and fire brigade came and left, we were waiting for the funeral directors to come. I took each of the dogs into see Mum so that they knew why she was leaving. Might sound weird to some, but they licked her face saying good bye as I held them. As the funeral directors moved Mum, at the same time, the dogs were outside at the back door, all 3 of her dogs let out a great big howl in unison. These dogs never howl, and never have again. The howl lasted about 1 minute, and then they all suddenly stopped at the same time. For weeks after that, I would find them all sitting on the bed, really quiet. They eventually stopped doing this, and the bed has gone now. And the little old dog who we thought couldn't jump up on the bed(we all thought this for nearly 5 years, a rescue dog), now jumps onto any bed she sees. :) There were a few eerie things that happened after this day, which I won't bore everyone with, but I think some people have such a connection to animals, and animals to them, that it is amazing and wonderful. That poor dog in the video, I so hope somebody helped the dog and gave it as much love as the little dog had to give to humans.
  19. Just wanted to add to this thread, that last friday, BAW sent this message out. Domestic Animals Act 1994 Notification of minor amendment Standard for Restricted Breed Dogs in Victoria The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, has APPROVED under section 3(3) and 3(4) of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and under section 27 of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1994 the following amendment to the‘Standard for Restricted Breed Dogs in Victoria’ as gazetted in the Victoria Government Gazette No. S283 on September 2011 (the Standard) That the words “stating, or to the effect that the dog is of a particular breed” in paragraph (d) of item 1 in Part 1 of the Standard, be deleted. Where previously it said in the Standard that a Vet could certify as to a particular breed, part of this has been deleted.See below. The bolded part is to be deleted. Victoria Government Gazette S 283 1 September 2011 3 PART 1 AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER (APBT, Pit Bull Terrier) 1. A dog that meets the description of a dog in this Part is an American Pit Bull Terrier; except a dog in respect of which the owner has one of the following certifi cates stating that the dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier – a. a pedigree certifi cate from the Australian National Kennel Council; b. a pedigree certifi cate from a member body of the Australian National Kennel Council; c. a pedigree certifi cate from a national breed council registered with the Australian National Kennel Council; d. a certifi cate signed by a veterinary practitioner stating, or to the effect, that the dog is of a particular breed What this does, from what I can see, is make paragraph d. apply only to Amstaffs, where as before, with this wording it may have meant that you could get a cert from a vet to say your dog was of another breed, and therefore was not restricted. Apparently because this is gazetted, the Minister can change this Standard without it going through Parliament. That is the way I understand it anyway. Goal posts have been moved.
  20. One of our little dogs who was forever peeing on any rugs/mats that were on the polished boards now uses a pet loo. It was easy, because the fake grass is a bit like another mat. We have this one, bought it at Vic Market, $30 about 18months ago. Indoor pet toilet
  21. My boy is heading for about 10yo we think. Not too sure as he is a rescue dog. Hopefully it will not turn to cancer before his natural time is up. I hope your dog will stay okay too Donski. It is a worry and very hard, especially with white dogs. They are drawn to laying in the sun. Even when inside, he seems to seek out a sunny spot near a window. I read just today, that cats can still get skin cancer from sun coming through the window, so I guess dogs are the same. Hope all goes well for your dog, and please let us know how the hat goes. I hope he likes it. :) Hope things go well with the hat, please let us know how things go.
  22. My dog is a white SBT and he has a patch on one eye as well. He also has the same condition on the other eye. I actually had it biopsied just before Christmas to see if it was a skin cancer, but so far, it has not turned that way. I just keep my boy inside during the day, and let him out in the yard for an hour or so after the sun has gone down. I do walk him, but try to stick to the shady side of the streets in the mornings, or otherwise I wait until about 7pm at night to walk him. Good luck, I hope you find something that your dog will tolerate to protect his eye. :)
