  1. There were no DNA tests completed on any of the dogs. The parents must have passed the visual identification and there was a stat dec completed by the parents owner/"breeder" stating the dogs breeds. To me, and without a legal bone in my body but lots of logical ones, that seems to say hello lawsuit. Yeah to me it seems there were a few errors made on the councils part. It seems they wanted to make a statement and would do whatever necessary to make it. I hope it is taken further by the dogs owners, considering the dogs had not actually done anything wrong its just crazy in my eyes, and very sad. I wonder why they didn't take it further before the dogs were killed. The only avenue left was Supreme Court and the cost to do that is huge. Not many people can afford that. Vcat are only interested in whether the dogs fit the Standard. They don't fit the standard, but the word of the council was accepted. Without an expert wittness there is not much hope. Another case that recently won did have a person who was accepted as being more expert on the subject than the council they were fighting, and they did win. And in the documents it was also mentioned that the council had only had a couple of days training on the subject. This is a very sad situation, and the owners are devastated. This should never have happened. The council treated the owners very poorly in my opinion. I am disgusted.
  2. Dogs had to be in Victoria prior to October 2010 to be eligible for the amnesty. Bear and Kooda were only 7 months old when seized. They did not fit the standard when seized, and did not fit the standard when they were killed.
  3. They certainly do, and the breed laws in Victoria need to be stopped. Not changed, stopped. I think it is time to really get stuck into lots of letters and campaigns over this legislation. In the coming months the inquest into the death of the little girl who was killed will be on. This I think will bring some very interesting information to light, and may be what is needed to have a more effective law to cut down the incidents of dog attacks. Breed bans need to be gone, and real effective animal management needs to happen. Hopefully something sensible will happen.
  4. The owners are very grateful for all the support and help from everyone. Thanks for all the emails and letters, they are much appreciated. It is just about going to be on 3aw drive show as I speak. Also, channel 9 have taken the story, and will be in the online version of the Herald Sun. More to come hopefully. Link to 3aw to listen live. 3aw live link to right of page
  5. A lot of emails were sent, but nothing helped. Even today, the council were still doing the dirty. They were not meant to be killed until tomorrow, (Friday) and at the last minute the owners were told it was today. Please still tell them what you think, and also tell the State Government, please.
  6. So sad for the dogs and their families. Some very dangerous and revolting people around. I hope they catch those responsible. I don't know what else to say,
  7. No noise complaint as far as we know. My daughter has stayed in the neighboring house many times and said she didn't notice much barking.
  8. I have a booster bath also. I bought it from a doler, second hand and it is fantastic. I have had it a number of years now and wouldn't be without it. If anything happened to it, I would replace it with another immediately. I a going to have hot and cold plumbed outside with a mixer tap at this house, but use it at the moment attached to the mixer in the kitchen with the hose attached to the kitchen tap. Just run the hose out the back door. Works well for me as I can get the temp right with the top of the mixer tap, and then attach the hose and flip the lever up when ready. Then just turn the water on and off from the nozzle/sprayer of the hose. I have left mine outside for ages, and it is still as good as new. They say in the blurb that the plastic is made to stay outside. I usually do put it in the garage, but have left it outside now for about 6 months and it looks fine. You can also buy all the parts separately if anything needs renewing or happens to break. I bought one as a present for a friend who does rescue, and I found the best price at the time was on dealsdirect.com.au and I got it on one of the Free Postage days. I don't know how they stand with price now compared to other places. I have this one, Booster Bath They also have this. other Booster Bath
  9. Some friends have just told us that their next door neighbours dogs were all poisoned. This happened a couple of days ago. I don't know what they were poisoned with at this stage, but 2 died from the poisoning, and 1 had to be PTS. Just posting in case anyone here lives in the area. It is believed the poison was in their own yard. RIP poor dogs.
  10. Ducky sounds like a lovely lady. Very sad for your loss. RIP Ducky.
  11. Agree, and it was making me sick the way the cop was trying to justify his actions. The owner conducted himself very well under the circumstances. I think I would have probably been shot as well. I would lose it if that happened to me and my dog. :cry:Very sad for the owner.
  12. My dog sees an eye specialist and it is ongoing. I get antibiotics and eye drops on a prescription and have it filled at Chemist Warehouse. :) They are pretty cheap, and I am sure they do prescriptions online as well. Just have to mail them the original prescription.
  13. My friend used Southern Cross. She has been very happy and received very personal and respectful service from them.
  14. Sir WJ, give it time. Things will happen, and they often come in our dreams as well I think.
  15. My closest friend lost her beautiful Stafford boy to an awful accident a week ago today. We , her family and mine, have been a blubbering mess since. Yesterday she collected Tyson's ashes. After the family had finished dinner last night, the adult kids went to another room in the house and the Mum, my friend was in the family room. We always laughed at her boy, as he didn't like anyone sitting on his couch. He was always nudging us in a nice way, but he really wanted us to move. After clearing up after dinner, she turned the TV on and sat on the couch. The box with his ashes are next to the TV.(She has just been telling me this about 10 minutes ago.) When she sat down on the couch, it was warm :) in his favourite spot for sleeping. I totally believe her. My friend and I, together with her mum and my daughter witnessed something just after my Mum died last year, and we will never have any earthly answer as to why that event happened either. We are all very close. Hugs to all who have lost family members, but I think this is wonderful when this sort of stuff happens. It gives me a feeling of peace when this happens to me. :)
  16. My closest friend lost her dog to an awful collar accident last week and her gorgeous boy is being picked up after cremation tonight. When I speak to her, tonight or tomorrow I will post the details of who she used. She has had nothing but praise for the service so far. I think it is a good idea to be prepared if you can for this situation, and it is lovely of you to look into this for your friends.
  17. For proof of parentage DNA to work you need to test the parents also. They may not be available. Breed Proof DNA is still a bit shaky. I heard of a case where tests on a Pure Breed Cavalier bred by a Registered Breeder came back saying the dog was a Doberman. Yes agree about needing both parents to test, but on the off chance that the person who bred them may have both of them, it still may be worth following up. Both parents may even be purebred dogs, as was the case that I knew of. I didn't mean Breed dna testing of the pup.
  18. If you can, try to get contact details of the breeder in case the council ever pull your daughter up about the dog. This is the only way the person I knew got off having her dog declared a restricted breed. The dog I know of was a cross of 2 different purebreeds. Then, if the worse happens, DNA proving parentage might help. Just a suggestion.....
  19. Did the owners of Ace have a Solicitor with them at this hearing? Are they intending to take this to Supreme Court?
  20. Are these the same as when humans have viral papillomas? Does anyone know?
  21. Try this link if anyone still can't get it with the above link. This should work. Link to Lilla Petition
  22. You need to appeal to VCAT within 28 days of the council giving you advice in writing that they intend to declare your dog a restricted breed. I don't know the dates, but please keep that in mind. If you dog was already registered with your council prior to this incident, as any breed even if the dog is declared successfully as a restricted breed dog, it does not need to be destroyed. But, this would be depending on the outcome of the seperate issue of the dog allegedly attacking someone. But on the strength of just being declared a restricted breed, the dog should not be destroyed. If the dog is declared a restricted breed, it needs to kept as such. This does not mean the dog is not allowed in the house with the family, or that the dog is not allowed to sleep in your bed. In some cases, the actual yard can be used as the prescribed enclosure, depending on the set up. The backyard might be able to be adjusted to fit this criteria without erecting a separate enclosure. If the dog has not actually harmed or made contact with a human or an animal, it may be declared a menacing dog, or a dangerous dog, again, depending on the circumstances. You need to know exactly what the council is charging you with,in writing, and I think you should contact a solicitor for advice. A solicitor will charge to represent you, but some will give advice to you for free. I would contact a solicitor straight away, before the situation becomes more confusing. I will PM some details to you. If I was you, I would seek proper legal advice, as some of these council's are bullying people and giving incorrect information. Once you have the legal facts, from a source other than the council. you can then formulate your defense. Don't be pushed into anything by the council without seeking legal advice. PS Please though, if you have received their intention to declare your dog as a restricted breed, do keep in mind you only have 28days to register the fact you want to appeal with VCAT. This should be done as soon as possible.
  23. Maybe you should go and speak to the pet shop about the possibility of the dog being declared. If the dog is declared and it can't be proven the dog is not a restricted breed, it will be destroyed. If that happens, the shop could also be in trouble. Nobody is allowed to sell a dog that is a restricted breed without informing the new owner that it's a restricted breed. I know of someone who this happened to,(the dog was purchased 9 months previous) and the pet shop was most helpful,(after being informed they could be in trouble),in supplying the details of the people who had bred the dog, and the owner was able to prove the dog was not restricted. All turned out okay, but this wouldn't always the case. I hope this dog will be safe. I know it isn't your responsibility to go to the petshop and find this out, but for the sake of saving an innocent dog, I would do that. It's not the poor dog's fault.
  24. Yes,switch the lights on, and maybe double padlock the gate. Takes longer to cut two of them off, than one. SL, that is just weird. I hope all will be okay. Maybe if you can, try to wipe the blood off with a tissue and put it in a bag just in case it is needed. Probably a bit over the top, but you never know, if something else happens, dna. Above all,be careful for yourself, family and the doggies.
