Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
sumosmum replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Candle lit. Jed, thinking of you and sending healing vibes and best wishes. Please get well soon. -
I was advised by another Doler who is very experienced that, "dosage for an injury would be 2-3 a day and one a day as part of any regular diet." This was for my SBT who I had taken to the chiro with a limp, and he also had a sore back. It worked quite well for us. ;)

Aunties Dog, Trembling A Lot, Fearful, Some Vomiting
sumosmum replied to sumosmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks very much everyone for your input and advice. Very much appreciated. I took Daisy and my uncle back to the vet today. I spoke to a different vet, and she has now been admitted again, and will be having a blood test this afternoon to confirm that she does have the disease. We should know the results by tomorrow night. I asked why this wasn't done when she was first taken to the vet instead of being sent home being so ill, and the vet didn't really have an answer. She said she did not know the answer. ;) So, she will now stay at the vet for another 2 or so days. She will be put on a drip again because she hasn't eaten or taken any decent amount of water since Monday. She vomited again early this morning and also had a runny poo. If the test proves she has Addisons, she will be put on medication. I think there was a bit of a stuff up along the way, or a communication breakdown somewhere! It really isn't good enough, but thank goodness she is still with us. The vet gave me the feeling that she didn't want to say much when she was questioned about why this wasn't all done earlier in the week when Daisy was staying there the first time, from last Sunday. At the moment, I just want them to help her feel better and get back to being the happy little dog that she usually is. By today, she was very wobbly on her feet and the back legs were collapsing underneath her. The vet said that is due to muscle weakness with Addisons. The thing is, she has been like that since being sent home on Tuesday. Hopefully, she will feel a lot better in a couple of days, and I will then again question them on what went wrong with this whole situation. I did get the message across that I felt the treatment my Auntie and Uncle and Daisy received was very sub standard, and I had expected better. The cost was never an issue, however, they are now going to get billed for what they have already been billed for again, and then the blood test and meds. If it had all been done correctly in the first place, Daisy would not have suffered for so long. As it is they will now be billed for the same as before, couple of days hospital stay, drip, consultation fee all again. Anyway, I will update again when we have some results, and hopefully a happier little Daisy girl. -

Thank you GW and KL. Last night after reading up on Addisons I thought the same thing about it being strange to be sent home with no medication. I rang my Auntie and Uncle and they said the dog was still very unwell and they were very concerned. I told them to ring the vet straight away or to go straight back there. I am at work today and will try to call them again at lunchtime to find out what is going on. I was thinking that same thing that they should have at least been sent home with some pred. and that a small dose would not hurt, and may give the dog some relief. I will try to get a bit more information and let you know what is going on. I appreciate your imput because I had the same feelings as you, but because I have had no experience with Addisons, I thought I may have been over reacting. -

Thant's good to know Teebs, thanks for that. I just rang them and she is still very ill and looking very lethargic. They have sent her home without any medication, waiting to have the next blood test. I offered to drive them back to the vet with her, but they are going to wait and see if she brightens up a bit. If she doesn't they will take her back in the morning. -

The blood tests have shown up Addison's. She has been sent home and has to have more comprehensive blood tests next Monday. She is still looking very ill. I hope something can be done for her. I will go and search for more information on the illness now. -

Thanks Teebs, will let you know. Poor little thing, she is only 3yo. -
My aunties little dog is currently staying at the vet and has been there since yesterday morning. She vomited on Saturday night, and was very unwell by yesterday morning. She is trembling a lot, and very miserable. The vet had her on a drip for 24 hours. She has managed to eat a little bit, but still not right. Apparently, she seems very fearful and shaking all the time. This little girl, Daisy, is the sister of my little dog Mini. She was from a rescue litter and my mother has the mother of the litter, and another brother and sister. The vet at first thought that she had been baited, but now is a bit unsure about what is going on. She spends most of her time in the house, so although I suppose a bait could be possible, it is unlikely. Blood tests have been taken, and awaiting the results. Has anyone else got any ideas on what could be causing this, or had a similar problem with their dog. She is vaccinated and always been very healthy. She mixes with other family members dogs, and none of them are or have been ill. :D I hope that the vet can get to the bottom of the problem. She is a lovely little thing, and we are all very worried about her.

This is all so sad. R.I.P. all of those much loved family members who did not survive. I hope that the op today went smoothly. Sending love and prayers for Jed and her family. The surviving dogs, bless them. I so admire the friends who are helping with this tragedy. They are doing a wonderful job, on top of dealing with their own shock, sadness and tears. Thank you so much. -

A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
sumosmum replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
You're not serious? There is a very HA and DA lab down the street from me - people cross the street when they see it approaching (on leash). Most labs also play very physically. They can easily hurt a small dog even if they didn't mean it. I'm deadly serious! Who could be scared of a labrador?! ;) They're known as the world's friendliest and most family orientated dog! I would never cross the street if I see a labrador on a leash. If I see a little yappy thing, then I cross the street! My SBT was seriously attacked by a Lab. The attack went on for quite a while, the person walking the dog deserted us and the dog he was walking, leaving it attacking my dog. My dog tried to stay behind me but the other dog kept circling and attacking. My dog wet himself and he was injured. The person in charge of the dog was heavily fined. Absolutely horrible experience for my dog and for me. ETA My dog was on leash. The Lab was being walked off leash on the street. -
So sorry for the loss of your beloved girl Horus. Ellie was a gorgeous girl. Thoughts are with you. RIP Ellie.

Meeting A Potentially "aggressive" Dog
sumosmum replied to Whippetsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy got attacked by an offlead dog. It was actually a Customs Lab, who was being walked by the foster person. The dog went straight for my dog but my dog quickly went straight behind me. It managed to grab him a couple of times but mostly I kept the dog away by kicking it off to start with and then keeping it at a distance by swinging the lead at it. I had a hard poo bag holder on the handle of the lead and that helped. This dog would not give up, and kept circling trying to come at us from behind. I just had to keep turning around and staying in the middle of the 2 of them. It was a nightmare and in the end, the stupid dog walker ran off and abandoned us in the street being attacked by the Customs dog. He had a greyhound on lead as well. Eventually, after what seemed like forever, the dog realised the guy had gone and it ran off down the street, around the corner in the direction of its home. This walking the dog offlead was not a one off. This dog was not interested in attacking me at all. It didn't even really look at me but sort of treated me like an obstacle that was in its way. Just kept trying to get past me. So, it worked for me swinging the lead and yelling at it............at least it didn't get too many strikes to connect. My poor boy wet himself, and was terrified. He had a few bite marks and limped for a while afterward, but it could have been a lot worse. I felt shocking hitting this dog. It was an awful feeling to have to lay into a dog when you are a dog lover. I totally blame the handler, he is a complete idiot. He did get a hefty fine for his stupidity, but unfortunately he now has another 2 Customs dogs. He doesn't walk them offlead now, I don't think he bothers to walk them much at all on lead unfortunately for the poor dogs. ETA Imagine the headlines if my dog had fought back and got stuck into the other dog. Mine being a staffy! -
I am so sorry for your loss of your beloved Grandfather. RIP. Terribly sad for you. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

(uk) Eleventh Hour Mercy Plea To Save Death Row Dog Bruce
sumosmum replied to shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
It looks like there is another court case for Bruce tomorrow. I hope he gets to go home. Good luck Bruce and family. Linky Saving Bruce...Update March 2010 On Tuesday 9th March 2010 a further appeal hearing will take place to determine the future of a Bruce "a good dog". Bruce was seized on 19th September 2007 under the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) 1991. His crime was simply the way he looked. Bruce has never hurt anyone nor shown any aggression to anyone. Dog friendly and people friendly Bruce has been held in secret kennels for nearly 3 years at the taxpayers expense. While in the kennels Bruces health suffered greatly and he had to have his tail amputed. Despite this his temprement is still fantastic. Its time Bruce went home where his family and waiting and hoping. For more information on the story so far please see the links below. -
So sorry for Chester and you. I hope things go well and he recovers quickly.
