  1. I like the Judges comment, "He's going to jail for this". Should be more of it. I'm sure it would deter at least some of these aholes from attacking innocent dogs, and help them control their temper tantrums. I hope he gets a good amount of time inside! That poor poor dog. These sort of crimes seem to happen so much now. Good luck Jimmy, I hope you get a loving family, and live a long and happy life.
  2. Maybe they are viewing it as a protest, and because they are already "close" with the government, they don't want to look like they are protesting against them. :D That is just a guess at a reason.
  3. They will also allow people to have an account for an operation, and pay it off. If they are in Melbourne, that may be helpful if the full amount can not be raised.
  4. Yep, we saw him, but he outsmarted us. Very clever boy, and he knows the area much better than us.
  5. DerRottweiler, here is a link to the Domestic Animals Amendment (Dangerous Dogs) Act 2010 DAA (Dangerous Dogs) Act 2010 You would have to read this with the Domestic Animals Act 1994 I think, to make sense of it. Here is a link to Domestic Animal Act 1994 incorporating amendments as at 1 January 2010 Domestic Animals Act 1994 amended 1Jan2010
  6. This is written into the Victorian dog law, so probably there is something like this in the state where this incident took place. Exemptions for dogs used by government authorities (1) In the case of a dog working with a person who is carrying out duties for a Department or Agency of the State or Commonwealth, that person is not liable for an offence under this Act in respect of that dog, where, in acting in the manner which would constitute the offence, the dog was working with that person.
  7. It is up to you of course Gila, but I think I would write to the council with your concerns. If someone has their dog destroyed without the correct process in the future, it may be of help to them that someone has already voiced concerns about their attitude. Totally up to you though.
  8. Contact details for Sue Pennicuik. Sue Pennicuik
  9. Agree Erny, yes, let Sue know about it. Also, find out who your local member is, and you can also convey your concerns to them. They are there to represent you, and a good one will follow up for you. Doesn't matter what party your local member represents, it is election year, and they might be able to send a letter and question council about it as well.
  10. I'm not surprised, but I am bloody disgusted. A lot of the public are not aware of the details of this law. The first a lot of people will know about the law is when a dog is unfairly killed. If the bloody rangers had been doing the job they were paid for, things would not have come to this. They are part of the problem and cause of a lot of dog issues.
  11. 3+ coming with me and 3 other friends also coming separately.
  12. Healing vibes and prayers for Yogi. Get well soon little man. Robbi, what an awful shock! I hope Yogi is home with you very soon.
  13. I am working Monday to Wednesday this week. I was just thinking, someone around there may be feeding the dog. When I worked at the airport, we had cats that didn't belong to anyone, (probably dumped) and they got fed. We all would take cat food to work and feed them, but one guy in particular cared for the cats and he was the only person who could actually catch them. We ended up getting them all speyed and rehomed the kittens that came before they were speyed. Be good if someone around there has been kind to the dog and made some sort of connection with him. These cats that were in my work could not be touched by anyone else except their favourite person. Everyone else was nice to them, but they only trusted one person. Hopefully something like that is going on over there with the Shep. All the businesses couldn't help but notice the dog. Being white, he stands out on the landscape. We saw him immediately yesterday when we drove around there. He was asleep about 20 meters to the left of the car roof, laying on the ground!
  14. I think I would like to see what will be written in the Bill before thinking it is a good idea. Being election year, and no doubt they are aware of the upcoming rally at Parliament House......... After the last dog law that has just been passed in Victoria, who knows what they will put in this one when they actually get around to writing it!
  15. Yes, I agree GSD, I think it would be a good idea for White Shep Rescue to call the trucking company maybe tomorrow and ask what they know about him. When I saw him, he knew his way well around their yard. He isn't a guard dog for them, they have no sign on their fence, but I think they would know something about him.
  16. That was great Mysticpaws. What amazing dogs and people. Thanks for posting.
  17. We have put signs in the local supermarket, fish n chips shop and the milkbar where I have seen a white shep being walked. We just went to the area where he has been spotted. He was on the other side of the creek laying in the grass out in the open. As soon has he heard us, (nothing wrong with those ears), from such a long way, he took off. He ran around the side of the fence line of a truck depot that backs the area from the next street over. He seemed to know exactly where there was a hole in the fence and ended up in the large truck yard. We drove to the front of the truck depot, but it was all closed up. I wonder if the people in there may also have been feeding him. If he has been there for a while, they would know about him I am sure. If he hasn't been caught by Monday, it might be a good idea to either go around and speak to the truck company, or give them a call and see if they know anything about him, like how long he has been there. I wonder if he may even live there?
  18. It's only the height of the undergrowth that makes it difficult. If it was cleared, it would be easy peasy because he's basically penned in by concrete walls & cyclone fencing. I should have taken the camera with me today & posted some pics. Better than me trying to describe the layout. Night time will be a b!tch without flood lights. It's wet under foot & the potential for a broken "something" isn't worth it. We basically need a sweep search of lots of bodies on either side to flush him out of the heavy growth. Knowing he camps under that car roof is a better start than going to the site & wondering where the little bugger is hiding. Standing still with a couple of good pairs of binoculars isn't such a ridiculous suggestion either. If no-one's been out there after I've been to club tomorrow morning, I'll whip out there, take some photos & post them so you have a better idea of what we're dealing with. Might be able to get a bit of an idea on Google maps, Street View, or Satellite pic.
  19. I agree. The area is very large & just 2 people on their own with all that tall undergrowth have got no hope. Jan cant get out til tomoz night, I'll ring her in a minute. How many could we get together for tonight? If we cant get more than 8, do you think we should look at doing something else GSD's? I dont know the area but can imagine in an industrial area it will be VERY difficult. My daughter and I could help tonight or any time really. I also have a large crate, but would need a large car to transport it with a dog inside. It won't fit in the back of my CRV unless folded down.
  20. Hey Bertandsally, is the dog a she? and is it a cream colour or white? There is one that gets walked around here often, but I think the one I see around here may be a boy, and is more of a cream colour. The area you are speaking of is very close to here.
  21. I ordered one on Wednesday night and it arrived this morning. Great deal. Mine is the same size as our steel crate, huge, but such great value. So easy to move! Thanks so much for posting. I got the blue XXXL.
  22. I agree, I think it does depend on the council. My mum had three dogs, registered the three of them. Then she got a letter back saying she needed a permit for the extra one, but they still registered them all, and sent tags for them. Enclosed with the letter was an application for the permit. She just completed the permit app. with the details of the dogs, posted it back and received the permission letter in the mail a week or so later. But, we don't have to pay for the permit. No neighbour permission/signatures required either. I think it is just to keep the records in order.
  23. I disagree with the new laws. Doesn't mention anything about a temperament test! This is for a dog that has no collar and no chip. Don't forget, collars fall off, can be taken off by other people, and chips can get missed. "Clause 23 inserts new sections into the Act that allow for Councils to destroy a dog that is not registered and the owner is not identifiable, that is at large and that is reasonably believed to have caused or is likely to cause an offence under section 29 (attacking or biting a person or animal, or rushing at or chasing any person). If all of these preconditions are met, Councils may destroy the dog no sooner than 48 hours after a record is made by an authorised officer." So, from what I gather from the above quote, if the council thinks the dog may attack or rush at a person or animal if it were lose, then they can to destroy it within 48hours. Keep in mind, to get to this point, they would already have the dog in custody. Why can't they just keep it for the 8 days. It can't do any harm if it is already locked up! Too many ifs, thinks and mays for my liking! So, what IF the chip is missed when the dog is scanned. Hi- I hope by 'above quote', you aren't quoting me, as my quote is 'the above quote' here, and has been used again in reff to these new laws! What I said was that I hadn't disagreed with 'the main gist' of the new laws, but I wanted to know how they would clarify them, i.e, what would be the criteria for considering a dog as 'likely to attack'? I also commented about the lack of time allocated to said dogs, and the high price of the fines involved, so obviously I am not 'all for', these new laws, either. Just wanted to clarify that! I personally think that wandering dogs should be collected by council, for their own welfare, but enough time allocated to locate the owner. I think dogs, and cats, should be microchipped, to HELP identify said owners, remembering that it may very well have been the BREEDER who had the animal microchipped. If responsible, they should have a record of the buyer. Dangerous dogs, who are menacing people or property, should be captured and contained, and again, enough time allocated to find the owners, as there could be many reasons as to why a wandering dog could exhibit 'dangerous' behaviour, through fear, maltreatment, illness, etc. And I know that not all points were covered by the quoting of the laws in the original quote. I do think that people should be held more accountable for the welfare of their pets, and the welfare of the general public, though. Sometimes, a dog could be wandering for a genuine reason, but the irresponsible owners give us all, and sometimes, our breeds, a bad name. Something that is not discussed enough, are the silly laws that govern the numbers of dogs that we are allowed to keep in certain areas. I have had to get several excess animal permits, but a lot of people would be afraid to apply for them, in case they got knocked back, and then receieved a council visit...This puts some people off registering their extra dog/cat, and therefore, perhaps loathe to collect them from a shelter, as they would have to admit the ownership of an unregistered animal, and cop the fines. Of course there should be limits, but two dogs and two cats, is not enough for the commited animal owner, esp one involved in showing, obedience, etc, and could even promote the practise of 'retiring' aging dogs, to make way for the new. Is it NSW who doesn't police numbers, as long as animals are well kept and cared for? No, by above quote I meant the quote above where I was typing. The part with quotation marks. That quote was from the Research Brief for the new laws. Of course, dogs should not roam. However, their should be enough time for their owners to claim them from the pound. With ACO's picking up strays and fining people for walking their dog's offlead in onlead areas, well, I think if they did their job better in the first place, people would be more compliant and there may not have been any need for these new harsh laws. The council in my area does not do anything much unless an actual complaint is made. I have never heard of them fining or warning anyone for walking their dog off lead. Really annoys me, lots of offlead dogs in this area. I wonder if they will all of a sudden get a new energy now and actually do the job they are supposed to do. It wouldn't surprise me, much more rewarding for the council now! I don't really see a problem with people having to get excess animal permits. Some people have far too many animals and do not look after them correctly. I have not had a problem getting extra dog permits. Anyway, the law is in now so we shall just have to put up with it for the moment.
