Oh Tramissa, so sorry for your loss. RIP Minnie Moo. Dear little girl.

We received our dog food sample week before last, thanks Sherel. I have recently inherited 3 dogs, and have my 2 dogs as well. Happy to report that all of our household of dogs really liked the food, and I have just purchased a bag of dog variety which was delivered by Nicholas and his lovely Mum. Wonderful service, thank you. :D I have also bought a bag of the cat food, however, I don't really know if it will suit them yet as they have never tried it. Fingers crossed all goes well there. While using the sample bag, I did notice much less to collect while doing daily poo duty. ETA My Stafford has never really liked dry food and would only eat it if mixed in with his chicken mince. I just put some in a bowl for an afternoon snack, and he gladly ate it straight, so it must be very tasty.

Steve, will Thursday be okay to send you something? I have only just caught up on this as we don't have proper internet as yet. Great idea, Erny will love it. :D -
Sherel doesn't reply to that email addy now - the email addy on the web site for Sherel and the one she told me to email her at is [email protected] For anyone down the Mornington peninsula there is a distributor in Mornington now who seems quite goodbigpond.com Thanks for the info. I have emailed my details, and looking forward to trying this food on the fur family. Yep, I am in the Melbourne/Essendon area.

Thanks TLC, will give that a try. Much appreciated.

Could someone please post the details of the email, or phone number to try a sample of Black Hawk. I now have 5 dogs due to inheriting my Mum's dogs, and I am looking for a good option for feeding them all. Sorry I can't find the details, although I did see them while reading the thread, but I am having trouble finding the search function on the new forum layout. Thanks in advance.

That is fantastic news. Congratulations to all concerned, and very well deserved.

Good on you Teebs. He is such a little cutie. I hope he gets well soon.

What an awful fright! Poor Ollie. And poor SL. I hope you both had a good rest, and that today is a better day for you both.

In Victoria dogs are allowed on Metlink trains. These are the trains around Melbourne and suburbs. The VLine trains are the country trains. They need to be muzzled on Metlink trains, but I don't think that is really policed, because every time I have seen dogs on trains, they never seem to be wearing a muzzle. I have just seen this sad news. I am so sorry Kirty. RIP Phoebe.

Thank you poochmad, Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I could never imagine my own daughter ever doing anything like this, or tolerating watching anyone do something like this. It does make you worry about when they are adults.

Thank you LabTested. That is very kind of you.

So very sad for the father swan. I live in the area, and like most people from the area, grew up with regular trips to Queens Park to see the swans and the ducks. My daughter grew up with the same experience. She is almost 17yo, and we still visit for the same reason. The local police station is just across the road! What is wrong with kids like this? Makes me sick. We have had a dreadful week, with my own Mum dying suddenly on Monday, and as soon as I heard this on the news, I cried my eyes out yet again. My beautiful Mum was such an animal lover, and taught me so much about animals, it just broke my heart. My memories of visiting that park from a baby with my Mum came flooding back, and it just made it even worse....if that is possible. I hope the horrors are made to pay for this, and get some mental help that they obviously need! Morons that they are.

Yes very true Alyosha. They do say the dogs were taken from the yard, but they may have run home. Who knows? I do know they do things the other way at some councils though. Hopefully this will get sorted in the correct manner.
-
They can and do come in to the property. It is written into our act, they are doing it as Authorised Officers from what I can make out. The thing is, they need to have a reason for the warrant. They MAY, have trumped up something to say that they suspect the dogs to be restricted breeds. They probably won't follow through with this, but it is used as an excuse to get the warrant. This has been done recently. I do know this for a fact. They then take the dogs. They did bring the police with the case that I know of. They left the Warrant on the front door. I think this is written into the Magistrates Act and some of the rules there about serving warrants. The only difference with the warrants given to the councils Authorised Officers is that they do not have the power to arrest a person with this warrant.
-
And I bet if your dogs aren't happy about being taken from their yard by a stranger, they will be slapped with a dangerous dog order. I don't think council officers can enter your house while you're out - time to keep all dogs locked in the house when the owner isn't home! Hi ML, they get a warrant, and bring the police with them. That is what usually happens. Then they seem to be able to enter the house. That is what they have done on other cases I have known about recently. They do all of this without even asking the other side of the story. And they always seem to do it when people have gone out, either to work, or just out for the day!

What I would like to know is this. When these last lot of Vic dog laws went through, there was talk in parliament that the councils had a procedure the they needed to follow. There was some flow chart, showing them step by step what they must do to enforce these laws. Does anyone have any idea, where we can see these procedures? It seems that they are just doing whatever they like at the moment. We are stuck with these laws at the moment, so I think we should all be aware of the right way for them to use them, and we would then know if people are being dealt with according to the law. Can anyone help with information on this?

There is nothing to stop them it seems. You are guilty until proven innocent, or just give up because they have either made you broke, or you don't have the knowledge or means to fight them. I don't know if these dogs did what they are accused of, but because councils in Victoria have been given this much power, the way things are conducted seems to depend on how ethical and honest the councils are. I hope the owner in this article has contacted the ombudsman if they feel they have been treated unfairly. Ombudsman Victoria have been contacted by others with similar issues.
-
Don't they have to get a warrant? That is probably what is meant by they left a notice on the front door. This seems to be the way councils operate. They don't notify the owner that a complaint has even been made against them. They don't question them prior to seizing the dogs. And they always seem to call around to take the dogs while the people are not at home. Very familiar story here! They do however go nosing around prior to taking the dogs. And they do that in such a way that the owner doesn't even know. I hope people are becoming aware of all of this, and realize this is what happens in Victoria now! Thanks Erny for posting.

We went to the expo today. Had a great time, speaking with all the different breed people. I had never met a Dandie Dinmont in the flesh before, and I have to agree with Shmurps, they were just gorgeous. All the doggies were gorgeous.
