Pit Bull X's That Could 'pass' And
sumosmum replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I find this all really interesting and I think it backs up further arguement of how stupid and inaccurate BSL is in every way. Thanks for those links SG. -
Found this on the Casey council site. What happens if a dog is declared a Restricted Breed? Authorised Officers (from the local council) have the power to declare that a dog is a Restricted Breed. Within 7 days of making a declaration, an Authorised Officer must serve written notice of the declaration on the owner of the dog, either personally or by registered post. The notice will contain information about how owners can apply for a review of the decision, if desired, along with the housing and ownership requirements that apply to Restricted Breed Dogs. Link to Casey Coundil, under the title, Things you should know about restricted dog breeds - September 2011 Casey Council I haven't checked other councils yet to make sure they all have the same info, but they should. Has anyone else checked their councils?

At least that is an improvement Sandra777.Hopefully she will keep improving and recover. Long haul probably, but good girl to keep fighting China! Thinking of you and hoping for more good news.

Thank you for the kind words. Monty is a good boy. He has never done obedience and neither have I, but he does what I ask him most of the time. He is a great dog, and I didn't get him until he was a mature boy. I think the other sad thing out of all of this is all the dogs that may have previously been adopted, by people who want a rescue dog, will now be shying away from any bull breeds. I had this conversation with the reporter. I probably won't get another rescue bully breed as long as this rubbish is in the laws. Not that I would be looking at the moment, I have enough dogs to look after. I have no problem with getting a registered purebred SBT, and I love them all, but the poor old rescues are going to cop a hiding out of this.I have had a mixture of purebreed and rescue dogs all of my life. I just like dogs........full stop. I believe a lot of the rescues here are getting a lot of phone calls from owners who have adopted from them, with concerns over these laws, and what it will mean to their pets. This whole thing is madness, and I can truly say, I am ashamed and disgusted with this state at the moment. edited because I am still half asleep

Sandra777, I hope that China is a lot better by the morning. Thinking of you and China. Healing vibes from our house.

Perfect example thanks Sandgrubber. Doesn't that just show how useless BSL is. It is useless in being wrong, but also being inaccurate even if it was the fault of the breed. Such a good expample.I hope he gets a great home with great owners who love him for being him.

That poor white dog looked utterly terrified. Be at peace, little one. Yes Sheridan, I felt so sorry for the white dog with the eye patches. Very very sad.

Yep, he is a vet. He runs the shelter with the big kill rates. Does he even like animals?

Thanks everyone. It wasn't actually as hard to do as I thought it would be. Probably because I as well as most people here feel very strongly on this issue. If anyone gets a chance to get out there and do anything to bring this issue up, and have a say, please do it. My neighbours called me and they don't have any dogs, but totally agree with us in our thoughts on the subject. The house is my Mum's house. She passed away suddenly recently, few months ago, and we haven't been living here for long. Monty has only recently been introduced to the other dogs, but is very good with them. They are all rescue dogs. There are so many people who have these crossbreeds, dogs without pedigrees, I feel so very sorry for them. My council are good, reasonable and have commonsense, but I do feel for some in other areas who may have nasty or ego filled rangers. I do think though, eventually, this issue is going to end up in court, for some unlucky responsible person and their dog. It is all very vague at the moment, but from what I can gather, the main thing is to have dogs registered. I have contacted the Minister and an MP asking for clarification on a few points. Not all the points, but mostly about the Vet Certification issue, and weather that applies only to amstaffs, or for all breeds and crosses of dogs. It is all very confusing at the moment.

Here is a link to the piece on the TV tonight. ABC 7.30 show
-
Yep, thats it, thank you TSD.
-
I don't know if it is online yet. It apparently is aired differently for each state. Will add a link if I find one. I think it was okay.
-
Thank you. A bit was cut, that was to be expected as they were here for an hour. It was only aired on Victoria it seems, so when it is online, I will post a link.

This thing is so poorly written. The section about having pedigree papers and the Vet Cert. 1. A dog that meets the description of a dog in this Part is an American Pit Bull Terrier; except a dog in respect of which the owner has one of the following certificates stating that the dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier – a. a pedigree certificate from the Australian National Kennel Council; b. a pedigree certificate from a member body of the Australian National Kennel Council; c. a pedigree certificate from a national breed council registered with the Australian National Kennel Council; d. a certificate signed by a veterinary practitioner stating, or to the effect, that the dog is of a particular breed. The opening paragraph leads us to believe that a. b. c. and d. applies to Amstaffs However, in part d., the wording " a particular breed " , this makes it seem that it is referring to any breed. ETA, I have emailed The Minister, asking for clarification. I will let you know if/when I get a reply.

I have been wondering about this too. I did ask a few people yesterday, and nobody seems to know at the moment. We will need to find out for sure, and soonish. It is so vague. This is doing my head in! I'd recommend calling Peter Walsh, MLA, Minister for Agriculture and Food Security in Victoria. Might be helpful if he got heaps of calls, making it clear that the ambiguities of the legislation he has sponsored put good dog owners into a state of terror. If you put your name on legislation, you should be willing to clarify it and to hear feedback on how it affects ordinary people. Was just going to post the same thing Sandgrubber. ETA. And probably a good idea to email them as well, and get the answer in writing, just for future reference. Councils often see things the way that suits them. !

Who Would Think That The Ava Would Play A Part In This
sumosmum replied to DNB's topic in General Dog Discussion
Dogsvic were consulted by the previous government and they were pleased to help. -
Thanks Cosmolo, I will keep an eye out.
-
That's great Cosmolo. :D Which newspaper is it going to be in, and can we view it online? So pleased that sensible people are going public and speaking up about all of this.

Victorian standard for Restricted Breeds and Restricted Crossbreed dogs
-
I think they mean 'well let down', which basically means short Thanks Ruffles. And elastic skin. My dog is elastic, he always comes back. This is, well, a bit beyond words actually.
-
What do they mean by rear pasterns close to the ground? That doesn't sound to healthy?
-
Here it is. Standard

I think for sure the Vet cert is the way to go for our dogs who have been adopted and are from unknown parentage. It was worded that the vet must state the breed of the dog. I don't know if they mean breed as in recognized unpapered Breed or what the cross is made up of. In that way it is still so silly like the rest of this. Nobody knows for sure what a cross is made up of in most circumstances. But if the rangers are going to be looked upon as experts in crossbreeds, I don't see why a vet can't be just as much an expert. How dangerously stupid this is all looking! But, the Vet path I think is the way to go for a lot of us.
