  1. Many of the things ive said, apbt owners should already be aware of. This forum has always been an open forum and anyone is free to challenge anything I say if they think im wrong. Some people do put up an argument, some just hit the denial button time and time again. As for suggestions, many people have made many good points. I dont see it happening without support from the owners themselves, and have yet to see that.
  2. Finally, an Apbt who is not afaid of the truth. Atleast you're not living in denial and know the breed well enough to be realistic.
  3. Pit Bulls, AmStaffs and Staffies have been fulfilling the role of "family dog" for as long as there have been Pit Bulls and Staffies and are well suited. ANd dont forget apbts have been bred as fighting dogs long before the apbt name even existed right to this day. No need to single out the APBT. The exact same is very true for the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier. So what? All are generally great family dogs. The Apbt has been bred and is still bred as a fighting dog. The AnKc staffy and Amstaff are far off from the original fighitng dogs. If you were to tell an Apbt dogman that his dogs are the same as staffys, he'd be deeply offended.
  4. Grow up, That's not what I said, and stop putting words in my mouth Look I can do these too I gave you a list of things they can and do excel at, there are plenty of 'other' working fields out there that are better suited to other breeds, that I didn't mention. Like It or not they are a great all round dog, whether you acknowledge It or not that can be a great all round dog. but ignorance kills./

Working lines of molosser dogs can be great as famliy dogs but need alot of time. thats whay most Apbts live on chains.
  6. Staffies, AmStaffs/APBT's are classified as a Terrier actually. In terms of working catergories. it is a fighitng breed, because thats what its bred to do.
  7. So you do understand. You cant agree with that AND agree with what your father in law says. Sometimes it doesnt matter who has experienced what. Fact is the APBT is not a guardian breed. its a fighitng breed, not guardian
  8. What happened to individuality. SO now its cattledogs, BCs and SWFs.
  9. Have you any Idea how ridiculous your argument there Is, I've only highlighted the one but I'm sure a Chihuahua can do and fulfill all those roles too ( No offense to Chihuahua lovers out there either ) I have no Interest In flogging a dead horse, nor do I have the Interest to try and win you over Into the heart of the APBT. And lastly APBT's are one of the greatest all rounders In the dog world, they always have been and always will be, they have the desire to succeed In everything they do, even when the odds are stacked against them, and that Is what makes them so great out there In the working field.........and when the day Is over they make great lap dogs and couch potatoes too IN A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT ! Why cant a Chihuahua fulfill those roles? Is it due to particular characteristics? Like the Apbt has no flaws and is suitable for anything and everything.

  11. Thats great if your dog doesnt react to other dogs. Must of be the hienz variety. The more I read your posts, the worse they're getting..............Dribble I guess all those Michael Vick Pits that were saved from the scum fighting them MUST ALL be of the Heinze variety too, as I remember many were re homed in multiple dog homes................go figure If line bred dogs are no different to scatter bred dogs, why line breed at all?? why not just breed currs to currs to scatterbreds etc. Whats the point of Apbt breeders trying to line breed dogs? What are you on about? Off course all breeding should be done knowing history of both dam and sire Responsible APBT breeders who have their dogs best Interest at heart would be doing this, among many other things! APBT's are no more or less difficult to train than any other dog breed. Early socialization, training and monitoring their interactions with other dogs Is needed and each dog should be treated as an Individual. They need a kind hand and they will excel at anything. They strive to be around people and are always eager to please their master. Saying that all APBT will attack anything that moves Is nothing short of rubbish! Children + Dogs + Unsupervised = A disaster waiting to happen, and that's any breed of dog, They have been used to sniff out bombs and drugs, used by the military and even police forces, many used as therapy and service dogs, they are great at weight pulling, agility, schutzhund, and obedience. They also always score highly on the American Temperament Test. If they were such a bad dog, they wouldn't have been used In any of those tasks Lastly, and I can't leave this one out, because to me that's what makes them so darn great In personality Is that they're bloody clowns! My point being (Same point im making to rottiadora) Apbts are selectively bred for certain traits that make them unsuitable to your average family. Seems like you and rottiadora seem to think there is no difference between a gamebred dog and a scatterbred pitbull. Many breeders of working dogs will agree that certain working dogs and bloodlines will not be suitable to your "average" family. It will be hard to train the fight out of an Apbt compared to other dogs. Just like you cant train the fight into a dog. Its either there or not. You can do all the right things, training, socialisation etc. then when the time is right all those things won't matter and all you can do is muzzle and keep away from other dogs. Ofcourse some particular Apbts can be trained to 'sniff out bombs and drugs, used by the military and even police forces, many used as therapy and service dogs, they are great at weight pulling, agility'. A chihuahua could probably do them also. There maybe individual apbts (or lookalikes unless they have a pedigree) that are suitable for those particular roles. TRainers may assess and give a particular dog a chance that doesn't mean the breed as a whole is suitable and excels at that role. There are more suitable breeds to fufill particular roles. And certain breeds are more popular for certain roles for a reason. A Fila could be trained to be a guide dog. But would the breed as a whole be suitable guide dogs? Why not use a labradore. If Apbt ownerd want the breed to be a mutlitasked allrounder I think they should be breeding away from certain qualities and more towards other qualities. I have yet to see that in Australia.
  12. A reputable breeder in the States limits you to to the ANKC breeders of AmStaffs and Staffies. For an explanation of what being a reputable breeder is I suggest you look on the ANKC and individual state bodies web sites. So what would you class as a reputable Apbt breeder? A. a breeder that line breeds game dogs? Has some proof of atleast 4 generations. or B. a BYB that breeds his more placid but "scatterbred" likely unpure pitbulls. im sure there are more options than just A and B and what do u mean by scatter bred like unpure pitbull. how can it be scatter bred and unpure at the same time. the whole question is stupid and shouldnt even be answered LOL at the highlighted part. Scatterbred: Randomly bred dogs. Likely Unpure: Not likely to be unpure anyway. Combine them together: A dog that is randomly bred, likley to be unpure. SO hows the importing going? ANd redeveloping the Amstaff breed? Got a mission going there. But cant even put up a fence. lol.
  13. Neither of those silly examples of yours. But, in answer to your question . In this country. those two are the main types of Apbt breeders. So what is your definition of an Apbt suitable as a family pet. Because the closest thing to a purebred APbt in this country is one that is line bred from game dogs, either direct from game dogs or a couple pf generations away. Unless your definition of an Apbt is a BYB breeder with not account of his dog's pedigree, their dogs may be more placid and friendlier but likely to be more mixed and not as close to an Apbt. And the definition you gave of an ideal breeder. How many breeders both registered and not fit the profile?

  15. They arent worth $3000 to your average person, to bulldog fanciers maybe. However maybe the high prices is not so bad of an idea. What we dont need is more bulldog breeders, and with $3000 a pup, this may deter BYBs,
  16. I'm scared of Rotties, I'm scared of Rotties falling into the hands of Irresponsible owners who know nothing about them and keep them on a chain and dump them at the pound when they can't handle them. ;) If this dog bites someone, the whole breed gets the blame. I feel very sorry for you, to judge a breed on the actions of three individuals. this is the reason I've avoided adding to this thread until now. I imagine that if I got bitten three times by a certain breed I'd be wary too - Krislin didn't say that she hated them, supported BSL etc etc, she just said she was *wary*. I don't walk very closely to larger dogs that I don't know. I don't hate them either, but I don't know the owner so would like a bit of distance in case they lunge. I'd do the same for little dogs but they can't inflict the same injury on me. Megan, Where in my post did I say Kirislin was bitten by a Rottie, I was giving an example how people who have never owned or who know nothing about this breed are scared and wary of them. It's Irresponsible owners that are the problem, and this can be said of all breeds not just Rotties. Some people will always be scared or wary of certain breeds and I couldn't care less. p.s. Isn't this thread about GSD's, another wonderful breed. :D A phobia is a phobia. It seems like Krislin is not making judgments based on lack of information but rather from first hand bad experiences. Theres a difference from lack of knowledge/experience than actually experiencing something negative.
  17. Thats great if your dog doesnt react to other dogs. Must of be the hienz variety. geez, i haven't been on in a while and your still here dribbling rubbish, You havent been on in a while and you're still in denial.

  19. It's really not that hard. Yes, care should be taken when around strange dogs. So what? Socialising and obedience when young is the key, aswell as a reputable breeder. First of all, where can we find a reputable Apbt breeder? And reputable for what? Many different Apbt breeders reputable for different reasons. Many different bloodlines also reputable. Secondly its can be more of a challenge to train and socialise fighting instincts out of an Apbt. May work sometimes, but for many when the dog matures its a different story.
  20. Thats great if your dog doesnt react to other dogs. Must of be the hienz variety.
  21. Utter rubbish!! No harder than any other breed. Loose lead walking is no harder than any other breed of a similar size. Ask anyone who has done obedience with one. Loose leash until it sees another dog. try training an apbt to not react to other dogs. gurentee it will be harder to do than say a lab.
  22. "They", as a breed, will not attack other animals big or small, This is complete garbage !!! My dog does not attack other animals and does not want to fight other dogs large or small. If you think all Pitbulls will attack other animals then I think you need to worry more about upping your experience and lessening your posting on the subject. All dogs more or less need a firm hand in my view. APBT's are not a difficult breed on the whole this is false. Most dogs will strain the lead if you let them, the idea is to have the dog trained to walk beside the handler on a slack lead, how much strength the dog or the handler has is irrelevant. I don't know where you got your dog from. But if it has no prey drive at all, maybe you should "up" your experience by meeting more Apbts. Strength and prey drive does matter when training to walk well on lead. A dog bred with a strong drive and is physically strong will be harder to train and handle to walk well.
  23. Tosa Inu, BoearBoel, Presa, Fila, Dogo, Cane Corso, Kangal, Bully Kutta, Dosa Inu, Caucasian Ovcharka, Central Asia Shepherd Dog , They all are suitable for the average family. What we need is more dogs like these recommded to familys, especially in the suburbs. As nanny dogs, kids playmates, etcc every household needs one of them because they are so easy to take care of and handle and no experience necessary.
  24. Why no? Apart from being careful with the APBT Amstaff Staffy around strange dogs, they have no issues. They do suit many average families. I wouldn't recommend your 'average family' a dog at all. let alone an Apbt. They arent suitable for novices and for people who dont understand the breed. Who dont understand that they will attack other animals big or small, they are hard to get off when they do , they do need a firm hand, they do need alot of exercise and stimulation, they are very strong so can't be walked by kids, they are very athletic and can jump or bite through fencing. If they are such suitable family pets, how many old Apbts have you seen or even heard of? I would not recommend them to your average family for the same reasons I would not recommend Filas, Dogos, Presas, cane corsos, boerboels. Their drive, strength, temperament, instincts etc just arent understood by your average family. Why not recommend an easier dog for the average family?
  25. Why not invite them over for lunch?? Provided your dogs know how to behave, it can be a good experience.
