I would nip it in the bud straight away. If she growls when you touch her, remove the treat. You should be able to touch her, pat her put your hands in her bowl, remove food from her mouth without her carrying on. I can't stress how important it is to stop now and not have an adult dog with issues. My jrt pup got cranky to start with, she got told of, gropwled at, put in the sini bin and her treat removed when she did it. I have not had one other issue with her, a human and food. Barker has always let me touch him when food is around. They both got a little cranky with each other and food. I feed them seperatley and when they have treats and they growl, it they are sinbinned and the treat removed. They have bones in their run adn neither cares who have them. With a pigs ear they will sneak the other s and eat it but they are no longer growling or snapping. They may grump a little but they just get up and get the other one. I really can't stress how important it is to nip this in the bud.

It is amazing the difference in her and in him too. THeir poo is less smelly which is great and they are not doing much of it either. I think i will add vegies and fruit to the mix too.

ALright, it has now bneen a couple of weeks and she has had a full week of going from after breakky to after dinner. She has been on the pet mince and dry with a little canned stuff as we have a few cans left over. Both their poo is great and not a lot of it, smaller than before. I think it may have been the chicken necks that upset her, so i will try again in a few weeks. THey love the mince. ANd we have no more accidents inside or in the crate. None since 3 days after i swapped to the mince. So thanks for everyones help.!! Sivaro you are an angel.

That is a GREAT party trick!!

My old shep x was still squatting until he was 12 months old, i taught him to do it. As he had a broken leg when he was 5months, i let him go until he was strong enough to balance. When he would wee, i would lift one hind leg. He learnt after a few times of showing him, but i must say he still did it half the time squatting with a foot in the air.

He is a spunk!! Mitchi always turns it on for him, being really cute and sweet, she gives him kisses and he gives her liver treats.

Mitchi and Barker LOVE the vet, so do I, he is rather HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ruffles, i go to Cardinia Veterinary Clinic in Pakenham, only 10 from Narre. I find them fantastic. I took my Mal there when she was ill and they were great. My 2 puppies go there now and they have a vaariety of dogs going from large rottis and bull terrier to small chi and jack russells. I think they are great.

I would come from pakenham to a session.

Poor baby. I hope Devo gets better soon.

I have not had that problem with my 2 puppies. Mitchi wants to play with Barkers but once we are walking they are too focused on the walk and me. My suggestion is to leave the collar on at all times when you are with them so that the get used to it. And with the lead small frequent walks praising them when they leave it alone. A head halter or gentle leader is mostly used for pulling dogs but you need to us it correctly. So i would continue with the collar and lead. Maybe feed them wearing the lead so they associate good things with it. Also, did you take her to puppy playgroup? Try training also. My trainers told us, that when you walk the pup, to teach it not to pull stop and say ahhhh when they pull. Come to a complete stopand only beging moving when there is no tension onteh lead. Continue this and they will realise that if they pull, the walk stops. My Jack russell knows not to pull and if she forgets inher excitement me growling reminds her. My shepx does not pull at all, never has as yet. But take them for walks and stop when they pull and growl. At hte time of the pulling, not when you stop. Am i making any sense? Once the pressure is off "lets go' and keep walking. You may find that you take 30 minutes to get around the block but it is worth it.

Ok. I have been giving her science diet dry and canned since we got her. I gave her chicken necks last week for 2 days and that was when the pooing started. It also made it a bit slimy. Is that normal? Can i use the pet mince they have in teh fridge section of the supermarket? I thnk it is Petdeli or something similar. Or should i go to the butcher? Our chicken shop has pet mince which is made of all the left overs including bones, carcasses and meat bits, is that ok?

THanks. I had thought about the food. SHe is on science diet and has been since she was 8 weeks. COuld food do that to her although she has been on it the whole time?

I am not sure what we have done or are doing wrong. As some of you may know i have a 16 weekd old JRT and a 18 week old shepx. The shepx has never had an accident inside in teh time we have had him, about a month, Mitchi the jrt was doing brilliantly from day one. Only one or 2 accidents a week and then we had a period of about 6 weeks where we had none, and she had not done anything day or night in her crate either. Well, 3 days ago, she started having accidents daily. She would come in from a wee and a poo and do more inside. On the bean bag they nap on, on the tiles inher basket, everywhere. If i caught her, she was told no and put outside and encouraged to do it outside. Well, she has now started doing her business in her crate 3 or 4 times a day. Last night she did wee and poo in her crate after she had just been outside and done it before bed. This morning when i got up she had done both again, 5 hours since the last lot. She has been going 8 hours at night since she was 9 weeks old. What has happened? We are going to ADT on saturdays and my husband is training her and i am training her brother Barker. I am spending the same amount of time with her and Barker, and we are going back to basics. Toilet trips every 30 minutes, before and after food and after a play. SHe is being crated more, without the freedom of the house, no more snoozes in bed with us in the mornings and she is now only allowed on the couch when we say otherwise she is on the bean bag. She is going ot the vet for her 3rd needle next week and i will ask them too, but what is going on? THanks for any advice you can give.

Do You Measure Your Dogs Food And Bones?
Flaves replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I measure dry food and their wet food. She has 1/2 cup dry and 1/6can morning and night and he has 2cups dry and 1/4 of a can morning and night. They have a few extra treas but i do cut down if they have more than usual. THey are both growing pups and he is a little underweight so i am trying to fatten him up a little. I have always measured my dogs food -
Mithci kills the evil gloves, then helps take the weeds away. She carried them off shaking the excess dirt off the roots. I put lavender adn rosemary in my garden as it is good for dogs and helps reduce the amount of fleas, my old mal would lay on teh lavender so she smelt nice - she also ate it. Now my two kids Mitchia nd Barker also lay on teh lavender and chew on it. Other than that, and helping my Oh and mum with our landscaping last week. Mitchi showed BArker how to dig up the newly levelled and ready for turf soil. Mum and oh NOT IMPRESSED, needless to say the kids were sinbinned. I just hate to think what is going to happen if they dig the turf. They are currently sectioned off from the grass until the turf takes. ETA they have SANDPIT, why do they have to dig in the garden darn it!!??

I just wanted to say we have practised all week and i do not say anything to the dogs unless i want them to do it adn i can enforce it. Barker passed out of puppys to young dogs (only cause of his age ) He is doing really well, i just need to get him to stop carrying on when he has to go to bed. We tell him 'inyour bed' and he goes outside and then as soon as the lights go off he starts. Hoiwling, barking etc. We are ignoring it so hopefully he stops but what else do i do? If i crate him he carries on the same.

My mum used to have a toy poodle and we would do a lamb trim on her, just shorter than in the picture. She only had slightly baggy legs, shaved face and short fringe. She looked great adn didn't matt as we kept her trimmed. But definitely get bum, face, and tummy down top stop matts/knots adn stuff getting stuck in there.

My husband has one and i have the other but because she is so full on I will see how she goes this saturday. I think Barker will be put in young dogs in the next couple of weeks as he is a lot larger than Mitchi, then we shouldn't have this issue so much. We are also going to swap dogs this saturday and see if she does better with me. I am the firmer of the 2 of us when it comes to training, so that may also make a difference.

Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
Flaves replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Erny, I am very sorry to hear of your loss, i too have been foloowing this thread to see how you and Kal were going. She is no longer in pain and can now look over you like the angel she was. -
Slightly OT but can ABPT still be legally sold in australia? In the Herald Sun they have them for sale nearly every weekend.
