Firstly i want to say that this is my OPINION only. If you are going to crate train a pup, you need the crate to be easily accessible to you. This is because a pup needs to go to the loo over night as they are little and often cannot hold for 8hours at a time. Either put the pup in the crate in your room or in your lounge if you intend on having the pup house trained. Do this until the pup can reliably hold all night. A pup will probably need ot be taken out twice or three times a night for the first couple of weeks. but look for signs. Sniffing, whimpering etc. With my pup, they get taken ourtside when the wander around or start sniffing. They go before we go to bed, whenever that is, and then are put inthe crate. Hunta who is 5.5mo may or may not wake up durting the night. Rarely now. When she did it was baout 2-3am. Took her out and straight back in the crate until we got up and then out immediately for her morning wee. OR use the crate during the day inside to toilet train inside. Put the pup in the garage andhave paper down. However from personal experience i have the crates in my room. That way you can hear when the pup needs to go to the loo and take them. Quicker training and less accidents for all involved. If they are in teh garage in teh crate you are forcing them to go in their bed as they can;t get out. If you leave the crate open you are not really encouraging them that the crate is a good place. Hope i made sense.

If Feeding Super Premium Why Add Raw?
Flaves replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had been brought up with the 'dog food' only attitude to dry food. that is what my parents dogs got as well as my dogs until i got the three i have now. I woul dnot feed my kids processed food all day every day./ i will not do that to my dogs. I know that super premium food does not have to be added to. However, i CHOOSE to give my dogs EPH or Nutro, raw mince and yoghurt daily, they have chicken frames for breakky, bones, pigs ears, sardines, tuna, eggs adn vegies also. Not daily but through out the week. Their coats were fantastic when they were just on the dry, now they are on a combination of raw and dry they look even better. Besides my dogs vaccinations and desexing they do not go to the vet unless their is something wrong. Nothing has been wrong except kc when a foster bought it into our house. I bel;eive it is a personal preferance as to what you feed your animals. However i think reading and gaining knowledge from others experiences helps you to make informed decisions that can better your dogs life and nutrition. JMO -
Ziwi Peak/nutro/eagle Pack Holistic/natural Balance?
Flaves replied to Ems's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Were on Nutro - loved it Now on Eagle pack holistic - they love it they have chicken frames for breakky, sardines once or twice a week, raw mince youghurt for dinner They all look great, are an ideal weight. The only thing i have noticed is that on the EPH they have more poo and it is looser than when on Nutro. nutro was once a day and small and firm, EPH is 1 or 2 a day and looser. Will go back to nutro i think or i will mix the two together I forgot we have also tried Natural balance and they loved that too. I have gone back to mixed Nutro/EPH chicken. They eat all tehir dry food. I still mix it but once a week they get a fry food meal. -
Glad you had a good night. Keep it up. If you have only had her a few days, she was used to her litter mates or mum being there so she has to adjust. Keep up the good work. I had a screamer for a week. My pup Hunta, still has a whinge even though she has been crated at night her whole life!m No if she carried on i squirt her with some water. I do not advise this though when your pup is still learning.

Leni, try looking at a couple of web sites. Eagle Pack, Royal Canin, Nutro are all SUPER premium foods. Eukanuba is good but there are better. Did your vet reccommend the Eukanuba? Do a search on DOL and you will see heaps of threads about dry food choice. My dogs were on Nutro and they did NOT fart at all. They are on Eagle Pack Holistic and they have been farting but i think it is the sardines i have been feeding them. I am doing an experiment and not feeding them sardines for a week. See if they fart. Then i will feed them sardines and see what happens. If they do it is the brand i am using at themoment as they never did it on coles brand sardines.

My jrt swelled up and nearly stopped breathing. After a trip to the vet and an antihistamione injection she was fine. So if she is a little lethargic and tender i woul dnot be too worried.

I feed twice a day. 6-7am ish 6-7 pmish I have a 5.5mo pup and 2x 13mo and i just think 2 meals a day is better than one But whatever siuts you adn your dogs is the best thing. For Tonymc once a day at night is best, for cNr twice a day is best as is for me.

PF that is why my dogs are on what they are on. I wouldn't give my kids maccas every day so i won;t give my dogs it. Optimo - eagle pack is very good food. Personally i would have gone for that before the advance. once you get down to about 1kg of advance get teh EP and start mixing it so your pup gets used to it and there are no poo issues when yo swap over. Raw mince is great, yoghurt is also good and vegies. Sardines too

i have feral hour at our house each night when i get home. After the yhave said hi and had dinner adn come back inside it starts. They do zommies around the house, wrestler and carry on. They get a treat and Hunta throws it arouns the house trying to find a suitable hidy spot! The cats do it too. Very funny.

Oh yeah mine also get 'treaties'. A pig ear or tendon at night plus a few bite size dog bikkies. I haev eagle pack holistic ones at the moment an dthey love them. Or a beef strap or similar.

Sheridan, are you ok? Have you taken an antihistamine? You should it will help. That is pretty scary. I am going to try the liver brownies. I think they would be great for training. Mind you the smell may make me ill whilst making them. PErha[ps i should try the peanut butter ones. Is the shortening butter or copha?

I pay $100.00 for 15kg of food. They only get ziwipeak cans and treats. That 5kg of ziwipeak should last a month as they only need such a small amount as it is concentrated so it works out the same. JMO

When i got Mitchi the jrt, i researched what would be suitable and best for her. I had her on science diet as that was what she was on when i got her. After a couple of months i became unhappy with it. I asked around and was pointed to Nutro. Now my guys LOVED Nutro until our last pack (apparently they had a couple of issues with some bags and that is sorted so i will alternate between EPH and Nutro), so i looked at EPH. Asked what would be suitable as i have a large breed puppy and the EPH is suitable for a variety of animals becasue of its high quiality. Somewhere on this web site there is a topic which has a grading system for dry, i am pretty sure EPH was 120+ and Nutro not far behind. EPH was A+++ and Nutro an A. Give your little pup a go, experiment with high quality foods until you find the one that is right or the ones that are right for her. Good luck.

I am sorry Tilly. Just love your man a little more until it is time. You know in advance and can give him those extra kisses and cuddles and treats. I am crying whilst typing cause i didn;t have the chance to take Sam home for a little while longer. Just enjoy your boy adn take heaps of photos. tell him you love him heaps. Good luck.

Thats ok, i wish she would stop. I am going to die from asphyxiation

Nah it is just Hunta. She NEVER did any before. Have noticed a little more poo but not heaps as they usually get EP once aday as they have chicken frames for breakkie usually. I will watch it, i only noticed it last night. She dropped 5 and nearly killed me!

Hi Bloss. I put Hunta my Hamilton on EP Holistic Chicken. i spoke to Ian and phillipa at 4 Paws in keilor Park and they suggested it. it is very close to the Large breed pup and is greqt for them. They have great poos, although they already did with the NUTRO. I only changed due to them going off it. I think they needed a change. They are looking great, tehy have been on it a week. My only complaint is the stinky farts! Hopefully that settles down.
-
Have you changed her diet in teh last couple of days? Or wormed her? I had this problem with Mitchi when i first got her. I wormed her an dthen she was trying for a couple of days, i took her to the vet an dshe pooed at the vets! Give them a call and ask.
-
As you may or may not know i have started feeding my guys EP Holistic chicken. They love it, they still look great. my only issue if is the FARTS!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! they have never farted on NUTRO and i had forgotten how PUTRID a dog fart is!!!!! Will it settle down and stop? Or is this what i am in for. They are not silent either, you can hear them adn then the waft of revolting smell!! HELP!!!!
