Our Pup Won't Walk Past The Front Gate ! He Hates Walks
Flaves replied to ZEUS's topic in Puppy Chat
Good thought! How about feeding him his meals in a large black KONG..all stuffed in, with a big piece of meat or cheese to block the hole ...then he will have to work at it..and eat slowly :D ? THat is a great idea. OR give him a chicken frame, he HAS to chew that, he cannot just swallow it. -
IT is totally up to you of course. However Supercoat has a lot of filler and there are better on the market. If you are going to go for a supermarket food, apparently Optimum is pretty good. I would recommend either Nutro, Nutrience or Eagle Pack. My opinion only. Oh and no canned stuff as it is mostly water, raw mince, yoghurt and some vegies would be better along with chicken necks, frames and bones.

The vet checked right into her ear with an otoscope (not very nice for the dog ) and told me that her eardrum was perforated. What FP said. Although i noticed inside her ear was a bit crusty the week before nad the vet said it was fine. Within a week it had ulcerated and was very painful for her. I had asked for anitbiotics or sommething then but was told all was ok. If you are not happy with what your vet said keep questioning him. I could have saved her a lot of pain and 3 weeks of antibiotics.

My Bubbas Got An Ear Infection
Flaves replied to mrsgrumblebum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poor Bindi! Did hte vet test for a yeast infection? Mitchi had one of those and she was so out of sorts for about a week. Really crook, had a temperature, was shivering and sad. Tabkets and drops helped her, the infection had gotten so bad that her ear canal had ulcerated. Make sure you sppoil her a little. -
I tip a fair amount of the oil out and give ht esardines mixed in with their dry food and some yoghurt.
-
Mitchi had really bad ears and it was a yeast infection which had ulcerated her ear drums. NOT nice. Good luck at the vet tomorrow.

It sounds like a separation issue a little. I am no expert but since he whining unless he is with you that is what it seems like to me. Either that or he is still not sure about his place in your pack. Mitchi never whined like that. Neither did Hunts Daire has whined like that but he is over it now. Do you growl at him to stop it? Is it a ful on whine or just like under his breath so it comforts him? Are you in Melbourne? Do you want a jrt for him to have a play with? Maybe he is missing his family. How long have you had him? ETA You say he is only 8 weeks old so i guess you have only had him a few days? maybe a week. If so he is still settling in.

Zeus - Wonderful news!! GOrgeous boyo you have and i am glad all the advice worked. -
Yes i have a couple of suggestions. Crate train. Use a crate at night, it will help with toileting also. Have the crat ein your room next to your bed. Have an article of your clothing in there so he can smell you My jack cried too. We ignored and itr stopped. OR with our other pups, after a few nights of ignoring and growling 'quiet', we used the spray water bottle. It stopped the whining immediately. If they are quiet for a while then start, we took them out to the loo. Waited till they toileted then put them back in the crate. After the first 2 nights with Mitchi we had no whining unless she needed to go to the loo. I had her inside when i was at home as much as possibloe and only took her out for wee stops and playing. She is now 18mo and have no issues at all. Daire my gsd pup is 10weeks tomorrow. We have had a few nights of crying, tried growling - didn;t really work. 2 nights ago i used the water bottle. No whining unless he needs to wee. Perservere and spend more time with the pup.
-
lo i can relate to that one! Only took me 10 years to train him.
-
My butcher minces the frames. Only the frames. it is good but only lasts a couple of days before it needs to be thrown out. My best suggestion is to portion it up and freeze it.
-
Boys can take longer. But i cannot remember if that is in humans or dogs! lol
-
Can you crate train him? Make sure he does not have an infection first and then take it from there. I don;t use the pads or the newspaper i use my crate. I take Daire out every 30 minutes nad he does not come back in until he has wee'd. If after 10 mins he has not done what he need she can come in but goes into the crate fr 15 minutes and then out to wee again. It is working, he has only had an accident if we have not been watching him closely enough. Good luck. I foind with my jrt she took a little longer cause she has a smaller bladder but crate training helped heaps. When your pup has had his/her 2nd needle you should come to Kepala park we meet up monthly.

Cool, you may find he will settle a bit if he is not hungry. Daire who is 9.5 weeks gets his breaky of dry adn mince, lunch is necks or a bone and dinner is the same as breaky. He is excited about his food but is getting better, Hunta was mental with her food could not get to it quick enough, it took about a weel adn she settled done and would sit. She is now 10mo and will either sit or drop and wait until i say she can eat. Daire is getting there slowly. It will take time but it will happen. Maybe use ht enecks to lure him passed the gate. Go at lunch time if you can for a few days and see if it helps. Good luck. Can we have some pics please?? -

OK. For the food thing. With my pup Daire, i put him in a sit, put his bowl down. Say wait and hold him until he is calm, thne give him the eat command. He is doing pretty well with it. Hey may not have enough food if he is always hungry. Are you feeding him 3 times a day? A pup up to about 6mo should be fed 3 times aday. Do what you are doing for breaky and dinner and then 6 chicken necks for lunch. Now for the gate thing. Have you got a long lead? If so (by long i mean 2-5mt), walk out the gate to the end of the lead and call the pup. Give a gentle pull on teh lead to encourage him towards you. If you make yourself really exciting and have some extra special treats or noisy toy i am sur eyou could get him to walk towards you. When he does, praise him heaps! Good luck. -
I would not think it was the chicken but could be wrong. Put him on teh rice and chicken diet as she suggested for a few days then wean him back onto his usual diet and see. He may have picked something up in th eyard.
