    Help

Please be careful with this. If it is a nervous thing as you say it could turn into OCD or worse. Good luck with your little girl, it cecrtainly comes across how much you care about her in your posts. Are you joining your local GSD club? THey may be able to offer you some advice
  2. NO after one dose stopping would not have any adverse effect. Sorry if we scared you Cortisone would not be a drug i would choose for my pup unless as a last resort. JMO Have you tried washing the pups feet, tried an antihistamine? If it is on her feet alone that woudl suggest a contact allergy. I had nightshade in my yard last summer and my JRT suffered badly from an allergic reaction and it took me a while to work out the cause. Good luck finding the cause
  3. www.epharmacy.com.au and www. sportyshealth.com.au
  4. I have a baby gate at home so i can confine my 3 to the tiles. Works a treat. Good luck
  5. I agree. Steroid use in young dogs can cause susceptabilty to picking up other types of infections.
  6. Firstly good on you for rescuing a pup Secondlyt STOP letting the new pup have th erun of the house when it is unreliable - you are settin him up for FAILURE. Keep the 5mo in a smaller area so that he is not weeing throughout the house. Take him out regularly and wait for him to do wees. Use a word like do wees or toilet so that he associates that with going. WATCH him like a hawk - if he cirlcesm sniffs etc take him out. Get a crate and crate train him. This helps immensely with toilet training. If you cannot watch him crate him, take him to the loo beforehand then put him in, most dogs will not toilet in their bed, so when you get him out talke him outside to the loo. Take him out every 30 minutes and wait until he has toileted before you bring him inside. Good luck

do the same I will try this. Pippa is like the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead.... When she is good she is very very good and when she is bad, she drives me nuts. They are all like that. But they do grow out of it.

  9. Yeah that is why i stuck with the benedryl. Hope they get better soon
  10. If you are unsure go to the vet hun., Better to be safe than sorry
  11. Teebs, that sounds like my guys a few weeks ago. I dosed them up on benedryl original for a week or so. I took Mitchi to the vet as she gets really crook with KC. The others were fine after a few days. So my answer is no i woul dnot take them to the vet unless they got worse.
  12. Mine got swapped to ProPlan breeders pack. I am really happy with that - i may in the future try Orijen as i have heard great stuff.
  13. Try and get a glucosamine with msm and chondroitin in it There is a great product called natures own joint food. It is a powder and has those ingredients in it. Also ester c tablets or powder can help with joint issues. Good luck
  14. Grrr i wrote this massive post and lost it. Will try and remember it NO she doesn't;t like to let you down. That is just silly thinking like that She is a BABY!!! A young one, she has a small bladder and has not learned to control it yet. At 9weeks old her bladder in TINY! Would you expect a 9wo human to control themselves? No thought not I took Daire out every 30-60 minutes when he was that age, pretty much did it till he was 4 months old before i extended the time. What signs does your pup show before she toilets? Daire sniffed, circled, and wandered off -i then knew he had to go to the loo and took him out He had 3 accidents in total in the 9mo i have had him, those in the first 2 weeks because we were not watching him close enough So WATCH her more, LOOK for her toileting signs, she has them you just need to recognise them. Have you got a crate? If so use it. Put her in if you cant watch her, then not only will there be less accidents there will also be no more carpet eaten. Pups cannot destroy things if they are occupied and watched As for her being guilty, she is not feeling guilty she is reacting to your body language and demeanor. When she toilets inside and you CATCH her in the act growl and take her outside, if you DON'T catch her, DON'T reprimand her, she will have NO IDEA why you are angry Have you spoken to your breeder for some toileting tips? or for tips to help her feel comfy at home and not cry? Good luck GSDHandler, she will get their eventually, you just need to be patient and consistent

The other thing that worked with Daire was to grab his muzzle and close his mouth and growl a no at him. He stopped mouthing fairly quickly If you look at how a bitch tells off a pup it is over their muzzle usually. Good luck
  17. she is a baby. When you take her out, go with her. My boy is 11 mo and i still go out with him to make sure he goes. When they are babies they find other stuff to do and forget to go to the loo Daire sometimes cries to come in, when he was a pup i ignored him until he was quiet even if it was a split second and rewarded that. I still do that now but i make him be quiet completely. You have had her a week? She hs had some huge changes - leaving her litter mates, going to a new environment with different people, no other pups. It will take her a few weeks to settle in, just take it slow with her and reward her good behaviour. ETA As for the biting thing. I always grabbed Daire over the muzzle and growled at him It took only a few dys for him to realise that biting was not on.
  18. Hoping the news was ok Anne Thinking of you both
  19. Oh KOE. :run free at the Rhyles.
  20. Good luck today Anne. Hope the news is positive. I have fingers and toes crossed for it
  21. I would not be putting a front on the kennel. As PP suggested can you get a puppy pen and set it up so that her kennel is in there and she has an area to toilet? Is there a reason that you can't nake her an area in the yard so that the husky cannot get to her? Dont crate her all day I crate mine from bed time about 11pm until 7am. On weekends they choose to stay in their crates until much later  They like a sleep in like me. As she is still little i would take her to the toilet once or twice a night for a couple of weeks.
  22. It depends on how you train her. If the crate is her bed then she will get used to that and be hapopy wherever that is. You have said how cold it is in Tassie and ridgies don't have a big coat, maybe she would be better off inside? Oh well. I would start her off in side or at least in a smaller enclosed area so that she cannot make a mess. The more she does it the more she will get used to it. When you are at work during the day is she outside or in teh garage? If in the garage can you set up a run in the yard so that she can toilet on the grass but have shelter in the garage? WHen my guys are pups i would say the work till they went then bring them inside. Most if not all the time this worked. Look for signs she needs to go when she is inside, sniffing, circling etc
  23. HI, personally i would not give her the run of the whole garage whilst you are trying to toilet train her. Is there anyway you can get a crate and have that inside with you at night? Especially since it is so cold down there? As a rule of thumb during the day if she is inside she should be taken out to the toilet every half and hour or so. EWHen she wakes, after she eats adn after she has had a small play. Give her a command that you use every time she toilets and praise her when she does go for you. Good luck
