  1. Does he have a fav toy that he just LOVES? If so use that to help with focusing.
  2. Good on you for taking him to obedience! Have you asked the trainers there for some help? They may have some suggestions of how you can overcome his distraction. You could try at home and using a friend and their dog, practising your obedience with the other dog and handler at a 'safe' distance. EG have them approach you until your pups begins to react, then get them to stop that far away and work with your pup. When you have done a few minutes of training reward the pup with a short play, then repeat. As the pup gets older and more trained and conditioned you should be able to bring the other dog closer and closer. Good luck
  3. Maybe she is like a human. I know i have to go to the loo after a run around. If it is loose rather than sloppy that could be why
  4. and a few You and Sophie have fought so very very hard. You have done the best that you can and could do for her and i am sure she knows that. I hope this new treatment helps her.
  5. COngrats. Everyone has given great advice. Just a tip, make sure your OH is on the same page as you. I also find that my dogs are much better behaved when my hubby is not home as he lets them get away with heaps. ETA spelling
  6. She is 8wo? Drowsy? Or does she go adn play then go to sleep? If she is really drowsy then i would be taking her to the vet. Has she had a vaccination in the lasdt couple of days? If so it could be a reaction to it. It is ok for her to miss a meal, just feed her dinner earlier and give her dinner to her at supper time.
  7. Anne, are you seeing a naturopath too for Sophie? I would give the onco the flick too You are doing an awesome job with Soph. Hugs to you both

  9. Steve, do all pups go through fear periods and react negatively to things? Are there some pups who don't? And if so is this a bad thing or should i just be greatful?

ah no, i would say it i because she is testing you to see how serious you are about stopping her. And also she may be starting to teeth. Do you giveher bones to chew on? That could also help Keep it up sounds like you are doing well Yeggy, yes it is a HUGE relief that they grow out of it ;)
  22. From what i am reading i think that the tethering may be enforcing her seperation anxiety. Do you know how she was abused in her last home? Was she tethered at all? That was why i asked. As for what you can do instead of tethering her - no matter the length of the tether - can you block of an area with a pen or crate? Can she be put in the laundry or bathroom when you cant watch her? The reasons i suggested using a crate is that it creates their own space - a space in which they feel safe and secure. I agree talk to your vet but you may find a behaviourist better as they are trained to deal with anxiety whereas a vet may not have the experience and may suggest drugs instead of working on the issue. What state are you in as we may be able to point you in the direction of some well respected trainers.
  23. so from your name, I am assuming your pup would be a GSD.. what line of work needs that kind of bond? And I have found that if I am tired, and going to bed early one night, she seems to prefer to be locked up in the bathroom early as well, rather than just tied to the couch in the lounge with the rest of the family. Which makes no sense to me either. She would rather be alone than with their company without me? I dont get it. I did rescue her from what seems to have been an abusive family, and I have been her main carer from that point - maybe she thinks that she is safe now, but only if I am there with her. Does this sound feasible? And how could I start to remedy that so she is content with whoever is looking after her? Thanks WHy are you tying up a pup? WHy not use a crate instead? WIth a crate your pup has its own space and comfort area. If you rescued her from an abusive family you are going ot have to expect some type of issue. If she has bonded to you as you are her rescuer then you need to strengthen teh bond so she trusts you At this stage her freaking out that you are leaving is more than likely because she associates you with her being safe. Please don't tie her to the furniture, please get a crate or somethign similar so that she can sleep in it an dit can be her safe place. Good luck with it. Would love to know how you get on. I had a dog called Barker who i rescued. He had been abused and it took me months to get him used to loud noises and voices. It is about forming a bond and working with it so that the trust is there. Your pup may always have a seperation issue but if you work with a behaviourist and trainers you can make a HUGE difference to how severe it is.
