  1. Thanks for the reply... yeah I thought about that but I guess I wouldn't be able to tell the car hire place that its for the dogs!!! I would have to hire the car, drive to my parents place, take the car back with someone driving another car, then pick one up again the day before returning, etc. Its time consuming but doable and certainly cheaper than the only quote I have got back!!!
  2. Ok, just got a quote back from one company for $790!!!!!! Are they kidding, that's much more than the flights!!! Hmmmmm........
  3. Hi all, I just thought I would write and ask if anyone can come up with any solution to my problem. I am flying from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast with my doggies in December for my dad's 60th and Christmas. Unfortunately since I travelled last time, my parents have gone and bought a new small car that the dogs and their crates don't fit in! So, while I can get to Melbourne, then fly them to the Sunshine Coast, I have no way of getting the dogs and their crates from Sunshine Coast Airport to they home near Cooroy. I have tried a number of pet taxis and have had crap responses (one isn't available at that time of year, one claimed to only operate in Brisbane and Gold Coast when it clearly said Sunshine Coast on website, and the last one said that I had to book the flights and all through them). I have just tried the normal taxi company but I doubt they will transport the dogs and I have contacted the airport and asked them to hold the crates for a few weeks (but again I think this is unlikely). Does anyone have any other ideas... its such a shame that I can bring them so far but not get the last 40 minutes!!! Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi all I am actually still alive and just read through the past 10 pages.... good to catch up on all your activities Barb, that pic of you with Tully is beautiful! Looking forward to seeing you at the hospital tomoz, if not for a walk before JJ, any babies yet?? And by the way, Monah is much more sensible watching NRL instead of AFL, GO NRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will try to pop in more regularly now that I am finishing up working at the vet clinic, yup, that's right.... I have had to resign to get back to finishing my PhD, 6 years is long enough I reckon!! Disappointed but not unexpected, maybe I will go back after I finish but I am missing my whales too!! (Might need to pay a visit to Monah in Hervey Bay ) By the way, Maws and Migs are all good, they are very much looking forward to me finishing up work!! Hope to see you all soon
  5. Hi all, I know its been ages since I was in here.... just thought I'd pop in and say hi and welcome to all new members!!! For those of you who are not feeling very Christmassy, come for a drive past my house and see my lights and hear my carols cranking from my ipod!!!! Its my fave time of year! Forget the presents and mad shoppers and crazy drivers in town and all that and sit in a room with the lights low, some Christmas lights on the tree and some carols and you will be transported back to your childhood when all Christmasses seemed brand new, what you need is a different point of view! You need to celebrate like a child and forget all the commercial crap and enjoy the time with family and friends! Last year I was in Antarctica which was cool for Christmas but it wasn't with family.... By the way, my lights are not that impressive and half of them are blown but I still like the idea of them Barb, thanks for the upload of Maws doing his trick, I did manage to see it on here... looking forward to next week Hi to everyone else, will catch up with you all soon I hope. Merry Christmas if I don't get in here again beforehand!!!
  6. Hi all..... Good to see you on here lately, I reckon I'm the most infrequent visitor Tez, great to hear you had a good time in Tassie, pity you didn't bring the sunshine back with you (I couldn't bring it from Broome either!) Happy birthday to Bruno for a few weeks ago, isn't he the same day as me?? JJ, thanks for the pics of the repitilians.... shame your girl got stuck on her flight, that sucks!! Hope she's all warm now :D (Who was she flying with??) Tlc, good luck tomorrow, especially for the early start SO MUCH FOR NO MORE FOOTY!!!!! BLOODY HELL, THE WORST OUTCOME FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING ME CAUSE I HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT FOR ANOTHER BLOODY WEEK...... AND ITS GONNA CLASH WITH MY NRL GRANDFINAL WEEKEND NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you all soon I hope ;)
  7. Hi all, Sorry to hear you have all been having such bad weather..... should I mention that it is 30 deg and brilliant sunshine here today??? Oh and we just had two humpback whales swim past the vessel on their lazy migration north (I'm thinking I should duck the tomato's and rotten fruit ready to be thrown at me right now!!!!! ;) ) I'm glad that you had a good day at training, I'm missing being there to take the kids to hang out with all their doggie friends . I would even put up with the shit weather for that!!!! Unfortunately Migs prob wouldn't be going anywhere right now as she has split her tail open at the end on the walls at the shelter... Giorgio said it keeps opening up and she sparys blood everywhere!!! Hopefully it won't get too much worse before I get back. By the way, Moby is still for adoption at the shelter.... if any of you know someone that would be prepared to make the commitment to a deaf dog that is beautiful, playful, a little nuts but adorable, please send them to the shelter or let me know as her time is running out and I don't want that decision when I come home!!!!!! Tenties, great to hear that your new car is arriving next week Hope to see you all in a few weeks
  8. OMG TLC!!!! That tat is great! I thought I knew you pretty well but I didn't know you had them!!! The new one is so cool, i'm not a fan of tats but I do like that one (when I say I'm not a fan, I mean on me cause I'm a great big woos!!!!!!) I did notice though that there is a loose thread on there without a pawprint at the end, is that for a new one coming!!!!???? Just thought I'd let you know that Moby looks AWESOME in the pink collar and lead you gave her the other day...... OMG, I so want her to stay ;) Def hope the weather is good this weekend... I'm up for walks all weekend!!! Might bring Mobes to dog school Sunday Hi to everyone else
  9. By the way, thanks for the photos Barb, they were great! (as always.....)
  10. Hi guys!! Sorry for the lack of response... the puter at home had a virus (hopefully sorted now) and I have been flat out organising for a sudden trip up to the Kimberley next week!!! Haven't had time to scratch myself! Casey went back to the shelter on Tuesday after almost two weeks with us and headed to Melb for her surgery that day. She has just returned to Warrnambool tonight and may well be heading back here until I leave next weekend and she can go into adoption!!! I need that like a hole in the head right now, but we love her dearly and don't want her at the shelter while she has stitches and the like! She is really sweet but if anyone knows how to deal with a deaf dog barking, please help!!!!!!!! We would absolutely love to keep her but it is a case of "two's company, three's a crowd" here with no yard at the moment and the dogs living inside full time. I am so busy with 2 jobs, PhD, voluntary work and house renos that I simply don't have time for another dog in my life anytime soon, especially one with special needs and it would not be fair on her, or Maws and Migs, if we kept her. Of course I am very worried about who might adopt her... I wish we could screen people better through the shelter, whoever decides to adopt her needs to be prepared to train her with hand signals, this takes a lot of patience, and be prepared to have her live inside full time as her skin and the sun do not match! Her eyes are particularly prone, she has just had surgery on her eyes for ectropian so she is more prone that normal but simply being a white boxer she is extremely prone to sun damage. Hope you are all well and happy and hope to see you all soon (likely after I get back in mid-Sept)
  11. YAY to Jess and Darcy!!!!! Tried to get on last night to wish you good luck but damn connection kept dropping out.... was sending you good vibes though, well done again!!!! Hope to see you all at 12 tomorrow, the weather changed nicely this arvo but the morning was a bit ordinary... lets see how we go!
  12. Ooh.... ooh... pick me!!!!!! Mawson + 1 (that would be Mawson!)
  13. Hi all... Great day at training today and thanks tlc for posting the link of Migs and Brandy on youtube!! Demo team is on its way! Just a heads up for anyone thinking of adopting the kittens (not wanting to stop anyone from taking them RJ and sorry to go against what you said tlc) but to get a kitten from RSPCA is actually a much cheaper option than getting one for free and doing all the work at a vet clinic. All kittens under 4 months of age at RSPCA cost $125, this includes desexing, microchipping, 1st vaccination, registration (in WCC, Moyne and Corangamite shires), worming and flea treatment. If the kitten is over 4 months, the price drops to $85 . In contrast, if you get a male kitten, desexing at a vet clinic will cost approx. $90, microchipping approx. $50, vaccination approx. $50, registration approx. $20 and worming and flea treatment whatever you want to use (= over $220). If it is a female kitten, all costs are the same except the desexing which will increase to approx. $150 alone (= almost $300). I assume that most people will at least want to desex and vaccinate (dunno why you wouldn't microchip and register but many people don't) and these are going to put you well over the RSPCA adoption price whether male or female, under or over 4 months. So, I don't want to discourage people from taking these particular kittens, I just wanted to educate everyone on here that thinks that getting one "for free" is not actually getting a better deal than adopting from RSPCA and in fact anyone that does is actually contributing to the fate of the kittens at the shelter by not adopting them but taking a "cheaper" option. RJ, I would suggest that it would be a good idea for your sister or your sisters boss take them to RSPCA when they are 8 weeks old (or at least over 700g) and let them get all their vet work done prior to adoption. Yes, there is a chance that they could be euthanised if they have a health issue but wouldn't that be better than them suffering a lifetime of possible ill health? Yes they could be euthanised because their time runs out but clearly they would have a much larger pool of people looking to adopt them over the next month than just the people on here? Just some food for thought... not wanting to stir the pot, just giving some info
  14. Next Sunday as in 2 days?? I'm up for that!! Was gonna meet Kas from work out at her new place to let Maws have a run but can do it after our catch up so he will have a full on day!!!! Better do training with Migs on Sunday am then!!!!
  15. What a great day we had..... even down to the bloody bees!!! So sorry TLC, but you did tell me to put the ball "right next to that big stack thing" The weather was perfect and what a great bunch of people and dogs!! I am so gla dthat I got to catch up with you all... I haven't seen some for a very, very long time!!! I reckon we definitely have the best looking group fo dogs in the south west... am I a bit biased!!!!! Well done to Darcy... what a champion!!!!! Jess, are you still interested in the Delta program?? If you are send me through your email addy and I'll send you the paperwork you need to send in before the next assessment day in Geelong (prob August/Sept sometime). And the rest of you that have shown any interest... get your butts into gear and send in your paperwork, or you'll miss out on a place at the assesment day (that means YOU TLC!!!!!!!!! ) Good to hear the chooks are settling in well Tenties..... and Janet, the waiting and chaos will be worth it in the end!!!!! Hi to the rest of you.... we'll have to catch up very soon
  16. Hi all..... yay! I made it back here twice on one week!!! Tlc, great shots from the weekend..... damn I wish I was here!!!! Giorgio didn't finish the skydive until 4pm, by the time we drove back to his folks palce, it was after 5 so we decided to stay for the night. When we woke up in the morning it was pouring rain so didn't get to take the dogs to the new off lead park near his folks house...... if only I knew what the weather was like back here!!!!!! Can't wait for tracking this weekend..... Maws is pumped!!!! Yup, I'll bring along some snacks to share, prob something unhealthly like doritos if you are all bringing healthy salads!! I'll be bringing along some vegie burgers or something, prob a pack of 6 or something if any of you wanna have a vego barbie Pandii... sorry to hear about the surgery, hope all goes well.... Look forward to seeing the rest of you soon P.S. Can anyone give me info on applying for a permit from WCC for another dog?? Went to the council office today and the lady sounded like a prerecorded message, a very harsh prerecorded message...... obviously they have been told to tell people that you absolutely can't have a third dog under any circumstances and that if you did it would have to be a bloody good reason if they were to even consider it. Surely it is not that difficult? Its just for information at this stage in case you were wondering ;) .................
  17. Hi all.... not lurking, trying to catch up on all your chit chat!!!!! I think I started on about page 200 over half an hour ago!!!!! Good to see you are all well, wish I got a chance to get on here more often!! Been working full time since I got back from Scotland and trying to do too many other things in the short time I get away from work!! Not complaining as I'm loving the work!! Maws and Migs are well... for all of you that knew that Migs was unwell.... I think being at the shelter while we were in Scotland helped her enormously!! She is now eating like a pig again and despite losing some weight while at the shelter she is piling it back on again.... and she hasn't vomited in 3 weeks!!!! YAY!!! Tanya... just wondering if you are still looking for as companion for Bruno? Should I still be keeping an eye out at the shelter for you?? I kinda lost track while I was away in Antarctica, then Scotland but I'm back for a while now so can keep you up to date Looking forward to the tracking day next weekend!! So is Maws! Will just be bringing him as I don't reckon Migs would make the best tracking dog!! She almost has to turn upside down to get her nose on the ground!! I think its gonna be a fun day and don't worry Tez, there will be someone there dressed much worse!!!! But cause Maws is a dag too he doesn't care!!!!!!! I know I say it every time but I will try and get back on here more often! It's nice to see what you are all up to and we should organise another big playdate one day soon... I know the weather is crap but we should be able to do it!! See ya!!!

T&T - have sent you the delta stuff tonight... also have a great time at the MPW, think of my boy missing out Jess - sorry for missing your posts about the Delta stuff, I forgot that you were interested! I have all the forms and information so if you want to PM me your email address, I will send them on to you. Was also gonna offer a large metal crate but I have lent it to my neighbour to try and crate train her dog while I am away. Hope the other offers work out Everyone else - hope you are all well and happy and I hope to catch up with you soon. I am off to Scotland tomorrow for two weeks for my bro's wedding but I'll try to catch up with all the missed news when I get back
  19. It was a great day out and what a great dog school.... everyone is welcome as long as they are prepared to listen and learn and put in the hard yards with their dog. Yes, the head trainier has her own opinions and doesn't like the use of certain collars at this school that's her choice and if you are not prepared to give gentle methods and food rewards a go, there is always another school in town! Each to their own but at least we have a choice here, some towns must get stuck with only one school who's methods may not work for everyone! Having said all that, this is not the thread for such discussions, it has all been bantered around on here previously, this was simply a nice fun thread to highlight what a wonderful time all the dogs, puppies and adults alike, as well as their handlers, had at fun day, I even missed an hour of wildlife class for it!!! Bring on the next fun day and great job with the camera again tlc P.S. Tez, your choice of clothing was fine.... it was dog school after all!!!!
  20. Great pics as always tlc, thanks for a great morning out Good luck with the new doggie tez, I have everything crossed for you that it works out Well done with your new place tenties, hope you are settling in Hope to see the rest of you sometime soon too By the way, is anyone else interested in the Delta Society Pet Partners Program, we are likely getting a facility here in Warrnambool and I am looking for interested people with the right temperament dogs, let me know if you or anyone youo know are keen Tanya, you still keen with Bruno? Hope your leg is healing up :D
  21. By the way tlc, the weather is never good for the walk in Warrnambool
  22.
