Moody, Shame it didn't go well at the shelter but to be honest I would not have even suggested Coco Pops as we have no idea what breed the litter is and I think they are gonna be biggish! Not huge but definitely bigger than what you are looking for!! We do often get smaller breeds in, mainly foxies and jack russells, but sometimes quite interesting mixes and often puppies. Is a staffie bigger than what you wanted? We had a litter of staffie pups recently that's all and just trying to get a feel for what your limits are. I will suss out what we have, I know there is nothing in adoption at the moment but as I work there I know what is coming through to adoption and even though I can't tell you prior to them going in to adoption, I will be able to give you a heads up when they are. Hope this helps, don't give up on the shelter just yet, can I ask who served you today? Cheers, Shannon Edited to add that I work on Tuesdays and Fridays usually

Hi all, I know.. I know... I ahven't been in here much again lately but nice to see some action happening in here Welcome Moody and yes, scruffy is a very cute fella! I'm going to put my two cents in and say that although it is great that you are considering a pure bred dog for Nathan so that you can see the temperaments of the parents etc. I work at the RSPCA and aften have dogs/puppies in that are assessed and I would deem suitable for Nathan. Just a thought anyway... at the shelter you are able to come in a meet the dog of interest as many times as you need to see if s/he is suitable or not and the staff will help you to find the right dog within the breed you are after. Of course, with the breeds you are initially looking at, we don't get many, if any, in. But just thought I'd let you know that the option is there and I would be more than happy to help you find a suitable dog for your family from the ones that we have currently for adoption or will have in the future. I am more than happy to volunteer Mawson for Nathan to meet, he is a therapy dog at the hospital and adores kids... so I reckon its sounding like we need to organise a play date to meet Moody and to let Nathan meet all of our babies!! There will certainly be all shapes and sizes there!!! JJ, Giorgio put the Shan's Van on when I was away at sea last time, I didn't like it much initially but it's kind of grown on me!! I still haven't got in touch with the van mob yet to get my whales put on the side, but I will soon so it might look different next time you see it!! Have you got yours done yet? Hope to see you all soon

THANKS GUYS!!! Just came back from a lovely dinner with Giorgio but unfortunately with the gas work that has gone on around our house for the past two weeks, our house somehow got missed off the list and we got cut off today and so have no gas heating and no gas hot water at the moment and probably not for the whole weekend!!! So, even though it is my birthday night, I am about to hop into bed at 9pm just to keep warm!!!! Congrats to JJ for the opening of the store and to Jess and Darcy for winning at the state jumping titles!!! Well done and great run! Just showed the video to Giorgio and he was very impressed too Brrr.... off to bed!!!!

I absolutely LOVED Red Dog when I saw it a week or so ago and I, like you all, hope that it doesn't inspire people to go out and get a kelpie without any thought for their care. Having said that, I work at my local RSPCA in the country and we are forever getting kelpies in (and everything appears to be crossed with them!), so imo they are already a pound breed! As they do not appear to be a popular choice for people adopting here, I am actually using Red Dog promotional material to try and trigger some interest in our long term kelpies!! Don't worry, people interested will still have to tick the boxes and jump through hoops to meet our approval for adoption but I thought it might help to promote them a bit, as many of our kelpies just get looked over by the general public. In fact we have just named one boy that looked very similar to Red Dog by that name, just to try and trigger some interest!!

I crate my boxer when I am out as she is prone to destroy stuff, rarely but she does do it sometimes. I believe that she is nervous if left out of her crate when I go out and actually feels more secure in it. She can be DA and is nervous with kids so chooses to go to her crate if I have a foster dog here or if we have friends with kids come over. Although I was nervous about crating her initially, I soon realised that even when we are home and she has the run of the house, she will 90% of the time, choose to go and sleep in her crate and she certainly sleeps in it all night even though the door is open! I should point out as well that I work part-time and I am either at home with the dogs at least 5 days a week or if we go out, they come with us the majority of the time, but when we do go out and have to leave the dogs at home, we believe that she is happier being crated (and it gives Mawson a break from her sitting or laying on top of him!). Having said that, I often get up in the morning to find both dogs squashed into one crate, is that cruel!! They chose it! Even at the full extreme, I often go away to sea for a month or so and my choice is either to board them, or have the OH look after them at home. Of course I choose the latter when I can and even though Migaloo will spend the whole working week crated (OH comes home for lunch to let them out to the toilet and have a run around) on a Friday night when he is home with them, Migaloo will still choose to curl up in her crate even though she has the run of the house and has been locked in the crate all week! So I really don't believe that they are a bad thing at all! As long as they are used to it! Very beneficial to have them used to being crated if they are injured, or in my case when I fly to my folks house in Queensland, and I even just bought a new car for the dogs (!) and I feel much safer having them crated in the back of the combo than what I did with them on the back seat of my excel.

Hi everyone, Thanks heaps for your reply JJ, I will get in touch with them, I think Giorgio was quoted about $800 just for the side, so the job on Tristans van is not too badly priced and it looks great! I will just have to find a ripper of a photo to put on my van now!!!! Someone suggested getting Maws on one side and migs on the other, I reckon people would crash when they saw miggy's face on there Hope the toot'n soup worked well Tenties ;) Tlc, I hope you're getting better and better... maybe up for a doggie walk this weekend?? I just visited the hospital with Nelly and Molly, she was really keen and Molly was great! For some reason though, EVERYONE today loved Mawson, I mean, more than normal!!! I kinda felt bad cause no one was reacting to Molly much . Was a good day though Catch you all soon

Tlc, you are such a bugger, can you please get better soon ;) !!!!!! We need to go for lots of doggie walks! So glad you've had the fur-kids to keep you company during this whole time, and the iphone and the ipad and the mac, etc! JJ, the new website looks awesome! Glad to hear it is all coming together, will definitely come to have a look once you're open!! Just a question for you, do you know where your brother got the colourful work done on his aqualife van? I saw it driving through town the other day and I want to do something similar on my van with whales and stuff! I think Amazon does it but curious to know where he got it done? Cheers all

Hi guys, thanks for the link tlc but I am quite shocked that a site like that exists in warrnambool! I do not support web sites like that that allow undesexed dogs and cats to be advertised. And as for asking $1000 for a white boxer, that should be illegal! And it should be law that white boxers are desexed prior to sale. Dol is somewhat different because the breeders are registered but that site seems to be every tom, dick and harry selling their animals! Many of the animals for sale should never have been purchased in the first place or seem to have been purchased without prior thought for their welfare. An animal is a companion for life. I'm sorry if anyone is offended by me writing this but coming from the shelter background and seeing how many dogs and cats are euthed every week due to the public's irresponsibility, I cant believe it is so easy for people to buy and sell their companions :-(. I should point out here that I do not have a problem with pocket pets and reptiles/fish etc being traded as these animals do not generally have an overpopulation problem. I hope you can all understand where I am coming from and why I am opposed to these sites.

Hi all, thanks for your replies about jan tlc and jj... I agree with you both entirely, I know that mine dont like being boarded but at least I know they are safe, fed and have a bed. And its my responsibility anyway, especially migs, there are very few people I would give the massive responsibility of even letting her out to the loo during the day let alone longer than that! Jan has been saying to me since I got back that she would look after my two whenever I want, does she seriously expect me to offer to look after her dog along with my two? Not gonna happen! Anyway, I have done my bit, I can only keep suggesting that she will have to board her. She thought she could contact a rescue group and the group would foster her for 2 months for nothing and then give her back... I kinda had to explain that's not how it works! On another note, gee I wonder who you would have rolling in the mud tlc? ;-) Hope to see you all soon Get well everyone!

Hi guys, no please dont close the thread! I know I dont post as often as I should but its always nice to see our little thread at the top of the social page! Sorry to hear that you are still not well barb but good that you managed to get out today :-) its a step forward! So does anyone have any ideas for my neighbour? I think she is pushing her luck really and she just needs to take responsibility for owning a dog. She wants to find an easy and preferably free solution and I dont think its doable but I thought i'd put it out there for you guys :-) Hope to see you all soon

Hi all Well, I'm back from the huge 9-10m swells, not that I can complain we were anchored up in Tasman Bay from a week to avoid the bad weather! Lucky for me they decided to do an early crew change so I got to get off and get home, the job was supposed to be finished but alas they had to head out again, minus me!! :D Have just caught up on the last 5 or so pages, everyone has been busy I see New puppies, new houses... etc! Congrats everyone on what you are all up to, hope to see you all soon (maybe once we get out of winter hibernation!!) Hey I've got a question to ask if anyone can help? I have a friend (and neighbour) named Jan who unfortunately has to go to Melbourne to work for 2 months from September to November. She has organised someone to stay in her house and look after the cats (which I am happy about cause I normally do it when she is away for short periods!!) but this person has refused to look after the almost 3 year old Tirra, a border collie. Tirra can be troublesome but only in the sense that she is a border collie, she is active and needs a lot of mental stimulation. With Jan she is pretty good, but she pushes the boundaries with people she does not know. Jan is very vigilant and has done extensive obedience training with her, however she can be a ratbag if given some leeway. She can be dog aggresive but from what I have seen she is nothing complared to Migaloo! I often take Migaloo walking with Jan and Tirra and we have no problems. Anyway, Jan is looking for someone who might be able to look after Tirra for thoses two months. She would like someone that is experienced with dogs who will not take any crap from Tirra. Obviously it would be better if it were a dog free household but Jan is happy to try anything at this stage. She doesn't want to board her if she can help it due to the fact that she thinks Tirra will go mad over two months. The person who is looking after the house and cats doesn't think she can handle Tirra's energy, so it would have to be someone that is willing to exercise Tirra daily. Jan has said that she could pay someone, not a lot but it could be discussed. I think she may be asking for a miracle really but I know that forum members have been able to help in the past, just thought someone might have an idea? Cheers, Shannon

I won't tell you what Giorgio wanted to do with Mawson!!!!! He has the keys to the shelter at the moment, he said he was going to drop Mawson off there.... permanently!!! I told him he better not!!! Miggy is his little girl after all, he is just being protective, I wish Maws wasn't so rough sometimes! Speaking of rough, we are sitting in the calm before the storm at the moment, the weather forecast is for 7-8m seas late tomorrow and winds up to 50 knots!!!!! Hold on Shan!!! Willl try to get in here as much as I can Thanks for the best wishes Barb, thanks for all the FB updates, hopefully I'll catch you on chat soon

Hi all, Good to have a chance to catch up on all your news. Yes, I am at sea again but may be able to come back online quite often over the next few weeks because one of my shifts is from 10pm to 1am and if not much is happening I can hang out on DOL Tlc, guess what? Migs has either a chipped or broken rib from yesterday . Vet has given Giorgio some pain relief for her and she is on strict cage rest, why do these things have to happen when I am away?? Sounds like you are all doing well and I hope to get in here more often over the next few weeks See ya
