Tips Needed On Blocking Off Grass Area From The Dogs
indigirl replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
i have laid weldmesh and cyclone mesh on my lawn to stop the dogs digging in the bare bits. Downside is you have to pick ip it before you mow each time. But means dogs can have full use of the yard and unless you are right of top of it you dont relaly notice the mesh, so it looks very neat. -
A golden retriever of course! They dont shed overly much if you groom them every week or so, and even then its not much grooming. They are fabulous family dogs, great with other dogs, love the outdoors, easy to train and not bug barkers.

Some of the questions in the nsw version require common sense and an ability to read betwwn the lines. It isnt just straight read the material get the answer. I think if someone whoose reading ability wasnt great it could be a bit of a challenge.

I made a benching chain. Got a $4 lead from the reject shop made of chain. Cut off the fake leather handle and replaced it with a metal clasp from the hardware store for $2.

That looks fantastic! Excuse my ignorance but ive never seen a pet bungee cord? Where would I buy one?

I regularly fly pups and dogs around this big broad wonderful land of ours with no problems.

I have 2 of them, agree they are noisy. I use them in my dog trailer. Ive had a rescue sharpei damage one by managing to get her teeth into a tiny opening in the zip. I had left it open a little to make it less noisy. She pulled some of the stuffing out thru the opening but the bed is still usable. I dont think I would buy them again.

Get a dog dryer and blow the old coat out after a bath.

My girls are Karma, Chilli, Nyx and Luna

I wouldnt do it. I have just gotten a new puppy and my next youngest dog is 10 months old, which is the closest in age ive ever had 2 dogs. It helps that they are a toy breed so are easier to manage. If they were goldens I wouldnt have gotten another puppy til the elder was was at least 18 months - 2 yrs old.

NFS runs can be as big as you like and they are extremely sturdy and very quick to put together. They will freight them anywhere (Im in Broken Hill).

Run Free Little Bebe, Free Of Pain At Last
indigirl replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Rainbow Bridge
RIP Bebe. So good to know she was loved and spoilt the last 2 yrs of her life. So sorry for your loss dogmad, you have such a heart for the abandoned oldies :D -
RIP little princess dog. What a stressful thing for you to have to go through. I got my big old boy Spud cremated at the AWL in Adelaide, and they called me to tell me they had 'lost' him. I still remember that awful feeling, I was a wreck. Thank god they found him and cremated him as planned. I felt so much better when i got his ashes back. Adelaide is a 5 hr drive away so it was a huge relief to have him home with me. I hope you too feel a sense of relief and peace when you get her ashes back.

Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
indigirl replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry to hear Grover is so unwell, fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery. Could he have been stung by a European wasp? My iggy had a seizure after being stung and its wasp season again. -
I use parvac on all rescues that come through my door that dont have proof of vaccination. I also worm my dogs (but not young puppies) with panacur 25 given at 1ml per 10kgs bodyweight, and heartworm with ivomectin if neccesary at .01mls per 10kgs of bodyweight. This cuts costs down enormously. I buy parvac at 10 doses for $65 I think it is. So its $6:50 per vacc.

I feel your pain! My golden Karma has a digging fetish as well. I wont scare you by telling you how she has dug up the water pipes, dug up the irrigation system etc lol. I tried laying chicken wire with compacted road base on top - barely slowed her down. She had a big sandpit lots of toys etc, she just loved to dig. My solution was laying 4 grand worth of concrete. She can now no longer dig in the dog yard. I still have to keep an eye on her whenever she isnt in the dog yard - she dug a big hole in the lawn last night when I took my eyes off her for a min. Karma is now 4 yrs old I dont think she will ever outgrow her love of digging. I wish you luck

HAHAHA thats jsut sooo wrong

I have had one dog cremated, my old boy Spud a bullmastiff cross. Had to cremate him as the ground is rock hard and I would have needed a backhoe to dig a hole big enough! My yard is almost all concreted/paved, the only lawn I have is accessible to the dogs and I was scared they would dig him up *ugh*. So Spuddy was cremated and I have his ashes in an urn. I dont really like having the urn I have to say, I am still considering smashing it and scattering his ashes in a lake near where I used to live as he loved going there. I have a friend who has had all her dogs cremated and she has alsmot a shrine to them in her house. Thats not what I would ever want. But for now im stuck with this large urn that Im not sure what to do with. It jsut sits on the bookshelf collecting dust and I live in fear of accidently breaking it. I also dont like the sound when you pick the urn up of all the bone fragments moving around inside, so i try not to handle it if at all possible. I know some ppl feel closer to their dog if they have an urn full of ashes, but I am not like that. I have my photos and my memories.

Puppy Purchasers....taking Your New Puppy Home
indigirl replied to ellz's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think its a little unreasonable to expect breeders to supply a bag of dog food if the puppy is arriving on a plane flight. Posting even a 1.5kg bag of puppy food accross the country plus all the other bits n pieces would be expensive. If the puppy is being collected in person however I think this is perfectly reasonable. I like the idea of providing a CD full of puppy's pics from birth - 8 weeks tho. Plus I would include a toy that smelt of mum/littermates. I wouldnt provide a collar as I think dogs are safer without collars at home - unless it is a breakaway collar. Info sheets on diet, exercise, rest, growth, worming regime, training etc are all things I would like to see. I would also consider providing the next couple of worming treatments. Of course all puppies would have all their registration information, health records, plus birth records (weight etc) with them. I think grooming advice and specific breed information - useful websites etc - is a great idea. Dont think i would go to the expense and hassle of having a bowl engraved with the dogs name tho! Nice idea but to me thats a bit like overkill. Besides, some ppl change their minds about the puppy's name once they get it home. Some good ideas in this thread though -
RIP Cujo, wait for your mum at the bridge.

I am feeding my bitch Hills Science puppy, yoghurt, sardines, fresh raw meat, plus an egg (inc shell) twice a week. Also giving her lactose free milk. Shes 7 weeks pregnant and im dividing the food accross 3 meals per . Dry food plus sardines (and an egg) in the morning, dry food plus yoghurt and raw meat for dinner, dry food with the milk just before I go to bed.

Why is there a common misconception that vets are rolling in dough? Most vets I know (especially juniors) do it pretty hard! Prolly because we have paid thousands of dollars to vets!

Either buy an expensive very tough bed, or accept he will chew it until he grows out of it. I have dogs that chew every form of bedding known to mankind! I ended up buying expensive trampoline beds and its taken them a year to rip the canvas. Not bad when you consider these are the beds they have access to all day. During winter they sleep in crates at night indoors, with minimal bedding. The crates are left open but they sleep in them. Funnily enough they dont shred their blankets at night any more so each has a blanket in their crate. I keep the house warm all winter (for me) so it doesnt bother me that they dont have much bedding at night. Silly dogs seems to prefer lying on a hard surface anyway and often scratch thier blankets up to one end and lie on the floor. During summer they all jsut sleep on the tiled floor under the aircon vent The iggies have soft foam mattresses and lovely soft warm blankies in their crates though because they arent destructive. Lots of ppl say the snooza 1000D is really tough but 2 rescue shar peis i had here managed to disembowel one lol. I use the snooza ones in the dog trailer.
