  1. They use Lemon spray now instead of citronella. Well the ones I buy do. I understand why some ppl are agaisnt them but when you have dogs that need to be nearly silent to stop the neighbours shouting threats and throwing rocks at them, believe me you will look at methods such as a spray collar to keep your dogs quiet. I work fulltime so its impossible for me to be home to make sure they are quiet during the week. I agree spray colalrs dont teach the dog to stop barking, they teach the dog to not bark whilst wearing the collar. I am finding that my golden who is the biggest barker is becoming desentitised to the spray collar, so may have to switch to a impulse one though i really dont want to. I have an impulse collar I can use if necessary but Im not keen on them. I worry they will hurt her i guess.
  2. YES! They def work! I have used them for yrs now. My suggestion though is to buy one thru Ebay from the USA. I can get a waterproof citronella collar delivered to AUS for around $75. The same collar here costs double that. Sometimes customs will remove the spray though as its an aerosdol can, but thats easily purchased here. This is the type of collar that I use on my dogs http://www.barkcontrol.com.au/buy/innotek-...-pbc00-11282/11 They do die and need replacing though. They last around 12 - 18 months if used daily. Mine wear theirs when im at work, so for around 35hrs each week.
  3. Looks like the accident didn't take place at Johns house though. OOps you're right. It was at an international airport. Hope it was quick and painless for the dogs, for both their sake and the family's sake. Hoping their daughter didnt witness it either, shes still quite young 9i think maybe around 10 or so. Got to wonder why anyone would walk dogs around on a tarmac though.
  4. A personal boeing driveway and runway? Wtf??? LOL Sad about his dogs. Maybe he should have had a separate doggy walkway put in beside his personal runway..
  5. Keep fighting Jed, your grumpy little ChiChi and your other dogs need you! We miss having you here. You are on my mind throughout the day. Hope her family and friends are holding up ok.
  6. Something is way off there, otherwise can you please tell me where I can get the average weekly wage of $1200-$1500 I have never heard the av weekly wage used as a price guide for a purebred dog, but the numbers are about right ;)
  7. So pleased to hear her cat was find alive and well Still thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery Jed xxx ETA I just checked my candle we now have 272 candles lit for Jed .. pretty amazing huh ;) I hope someone shows the candle link to her family, so they can see jsut how highly regarded she is on DOL
  8. Any updates on how her remaining dogs are coping with everything - especially ChiChi? Do the ppl caring for her dogs need any assistance with dog food/ products? Taking on an extra 8 or 10 dogs would definitely put a dint in the budget.
  9. Iggies are such tiny little souls an they have delicate sensitive skin so I prefer using collars that are lined with something really soft to help protect their little necks.
  10. Ruthless I have bought some fabulous collars for my iggies from the USA, they are martingales that taper in size, will try to find you a pic. They are the BEST collars ive been able to find for my iggies - and ive tried a lot of different ones. I think one that doesnt taper wouldn't be as good, if its a fairly wide collar to start with? I also have some that dont taper but they are a lot narrower than the ones from the USA. Here you go..
  11. I was unable to work out how to ensure there was no dog fur left in my new washing machine after washing the pet bedding ec, so I bought the animals their own twintub LOL. Works like a dream! Not a single dog or cat hair has been found in my machine since
  12. I can fully understand breeder's putting conditions on dogs which are in the interests of ensuring their welfare (such as desexing) and also diet and exercise. If a dog is bought on breeder's terms then I would expect more conditions. But to say the breeder can take the dog back if it grows into a show worthy animal??? I think NOT! Im sure you could find a more reasonable breeder to deal with! Keep looking
  13. Dont know how everyone else is feeling but i am personally quite anxious about tomorrow, as from what ive read, if all goes according to plan Jed's sedation will be reduced. I feel like crying everytime i think about that terrible moment when Jed remembers and understands all she has lost.. I hope and pray her family has the strength they need for that moment.. and that the enormity of her loss doesn't overwhelm Jed to the point her recovery is jeopardised.
  14. My first show dog was a golden bitch. I had to get a bitch as my old bullmastiff cross boy (now deceased) would not have tolerated another male dog on his turf. I was lucky in that my family had a long association with her breeder after buying an ex show dog as a pet (he lived to 15) from them yrs ago. I think from memory I waited approx 12 months for Karma. She is a beautiful dog but very high maintenance! Its now 4 yrs on, I still only have the one golden. I did purchse a male golden but he died in a tragic accident very young - he is the dog in my sig. I also have two iggy bitches and an iggy male for show/breeding. Again my first show iggy was a bitch. I purchased her from a DOLer who has been breeding for a long time. Although we didnt know each other well, she had seen me on the forums for a while so I wasn't totally unknown. I dont think you necessarily have to start with a dog but the issue will be finding a breeder to sell you a main reg bitch who is show/breed worthy if you are completely unknown. I was very lucky with both breeds, in having breeders who were willing to trust me and sell me a main reg bitch to show.
  15. hey perth girl try looking here its a thread abput 18 months ago where ppl listed the average price for purebred pups of different breeds ETA Just remember these prices are 18 months old and its likely the prices will have risen a little. But it gives you a rough idea
  16. My golden is a basketcase during storms. Living in the outback means she can hear a storm from miles away. I now have a routine. If she starts freaking out I get up and put her anxiety wrap on her then lock her in her crate. I only speak to her in a very hushed voice and i say very little. Then i leave her and go back to bed. If she barks like a lunatic i ignore her, and dont say a word. Ive found this is the best way to settle her, If the storm is bad i put a blanket over her crate. I always make sure she has plenty of water too as she pants heaps due to stress. She knows this routine now and usually settles quickly - unless the storm is overhead, But luckily we have very few storms, one of the advantages of living in an arid area!
  17. Is funny.. ive been thinking about when Jed is awake and aware again, been thinking to myself "jeez I hope the nurses who are looking after her dont have a doodeloodle.." can you imagine Jed's reaction?? Makes me smile .. can just see them showing Jed pics of their 'purebred' doodle lol.
  18. I personally prefer email, which is why I dont have phone contact info on my website, just an email address. Once we have exchanged emails I am ok with making a time to chat by phone at a time that suits both of us. All my numbers are silent. Im not big on getting phone calls from strangers - just my personal preference. I also prefer to contact other breeders initially by email regarding thier dogs/pups etc.
  19. RIP Bobby.. I know well what loving an iggy is like.. sounds like Bobby was such a big personality for such a little body
  20. HAHAHA what a tosser! Thanks for the friday afternoon laugh I cant wait to hear what happens next
  21. I agree, the RSPCA did a great job taking care of Jed's animals. The local RSPCA here has also done a lot of good work, and taken in and rehomed injured animals. Perhaps things are done a little differently out here in the stix
  22. Its going to be a tough time for all of you who are involved. Thoughts and prayers with you all.
  23. I guess I am going against the flow then as I state on my website how muuch a puppy will cost. I do this in an effort to reduce the number of 'how much for a puppy?" emails. I got tired of writing polite and informative emails back to ppl who send me a one line email. I should write an email and keep a copy and send the same email out to all those "have you got puppies and how much are they?" emails.
