  1. I feel your pain. I also have a digging obsessed golden. My solution was concrete. Ive concreted and fenced approx a third of the backyard. That's where she is when she is outside. She is only allowed on the lawn with my supervising. She still digs if i take my eyes off her for a second. I also take her out to the creek 3 or 4 times a week where she can dig to her hearts content. Nothing i tried stopped her digging and believe me i tried everything. My golden has cost me a fortune in broken water pipes (she dug them up) and in repairs to the irrigation system. Its so much easier and less stressful now she is on concrete.
  2. If her dog is bleeding she wont have time for anything but trying to care for him
  3. Italian greyhound litter due on the 20th
  4. Jed I showed this to my friend with the boxer, she said that's exactly how they raised Summer, very gentle and calm. Im more and more impressed with this breed as time goes on.
  5. See? another reason why its an advantage to live in the stix, out here i think every motel allows dogs in cars/trailers. Some allow dogs in onsite cabins too. Ive never had a problem finding a place to stay and i travel all over the place. Riight.. no dogs, no kids and no sex in motel rooms everyone k? Then we should all sleep well with no nasty allergies!
  6. yeah who cares, it's only an isolated event, that you may have made someone very ill, doesn't happen often so it doesn't count Next time im coughin my guts out and wheezing due to ciggarette smoke in the soft furnishings of a supposedly 'non smoking' room I will try hard to feel sorry for those who may have been affected by dander left by my very low shedding dogs ok? Do you smoke Rebanne? Can you tell me of one single smoker who hasnt smoked in a non-smoking area at some time??? They have the potential to make me very ill yet they still do it - and a hell of a lot more frequently than i have dogs in motel rooms too! Motel owners KNOW smokers sometimes smoke in thier non smoking rooms. Just as they KNOW ppl sometimes sneak small well behaved dogs into motel rooms. One would hope the motels have a cleaning regime that would reduce any risks to the next person who stays in that room. If i want to stay ina room i KNOW hasnt been smoked in then i have to fork out the $$ and stay in an upmarket motel. Thats no different for those who are very alelrgic to pet hair.
  7. No no Dju its the dander that my very low shedding iggy may leave behind that will cause an allergic reaction.. not the golden retriever hair stuck on my jacket/shoes etc that I may accidentallyw alk into the room! My golden can shed up a storm and theres no way im not a walking testament to that when i travel with her when shes shedding.
  8. of course iggy's shed! Well tyou dont need to worry they have thier own bedding! So they wont be shedding anywhere near you LOL do you really not understand that hair falls off a dog and floats around? It doesn't fall nicely onto the bed only. Then there is the dander, the microscopic bits of dead skin, impossible to see, but potentially deadly to anyone allergic. Unreal LOL you need to get out and mix with the 3 dimensional ppl more..
  9. Well i see it as my revenge as im allergic to cigg smoke and yet so many rooms that are non smoking have had ppl smoking in them.. such is life. It gives me asthma but its just something I have to deal with if i chose to stay in budget priced accomodation.. I dont stay at really flash places if I have dogs with me. So if a person has a serious allergy to anything perhaps they should stay in a upmarket place. That way they can be sure theres no evil pet hairs lurking anywhere. To be honest I generally stay at pet friendly places, onsite cabins in van parks etc where you bring your own linen. Anyone who is dumb enough to let thier baby crawl around the floor of a onsite cabin shouldn't be surprised what the child picks up disease wise. I have snuck dogs into several motel rooms over the years, but they were isolated events. Its not like i do this every weekend!
  10. of course iggy's shed! Well tyou dont need to worry they have thier own bedding! So they wont be shedding anywhere near you LOL
  11. Your post screamed IGNORANCE nor sarcasm  Uh huh.. and your response screamed STUPID :D
  12. What a completely stupid comment :D Perhaps while they're at it maybe ban people who eat smelly food, hey  LOL i guess you havent heard of sarcasm before??? ETA But those of us who dont have kids sometimes wonder why the 2 legged little monsters are allowed and the 4 legged well behaved ones arent!!
  13. I think maybe kids should be banned from motels as well then.. the mess they can make ina motel room is unbeleivable. My dogs that ive snuck into motel rooms have never slept on motel bedding they have had thier own bedding etc. The kelpie X slept in the bathroom on her bed. I dont think we caused anyone pain and suffering. Im assuming motels mop bathrooms floors between guests! IGs dont shed and once again slept on thier own bedding anyway. I always stay at places that allow dogs in cars so they know I have a dog with me. I did sneak my kelpie x into the local hospital once though years ago. Stuck her in a bag and carried her in when I went to visit a friend. We werent caught either lol. Oh and ive taken an iggy to work with me when i worked at the hospital, one time. My dog Sultan had a seizure and I was due to start work so I told them im not leaving him, so Sully came with me and was crated under a desk.
  14. Thanks Jed, great info there
  15. Ive snuck dogs into motels before. Wait til its dark then sneak them in under a blanket or similar lol. I regularly do very long road trips. Usually the dog/s i take with me sleep in the car but if i only have one dog with me and I stop overnight I have been known to sneak the dog in, particualrly if its a pup still. Done this with a kelpie x and iggies
  16. LOL might be a good thing the 5yr wait :D
  17. On her own territory, you might well get different behaviour. To be on the safe side, a male pup would be a very good idea. I agree! Also very careful introductions. But you know what they say.. you can lead a horse to water etc..
  18. Thanks for all the breed suggestions. I have discussed with them how best to introduce a puppy to thier boxer. Their boxer is currently at my house asleep in the loungeroom, and my 8 dogs are all indoors atm as its raining. All the dogs are asleep and Boxer hasnt so much as growled at any of my dogs (there is a toddler gate between the boxer and the other dogs), so perhaps ive overstated the agression issue. I just know when she was younger she would growl and stand over my two bitches at times. I understand some ppl's concerns about a 10yr old walking a dog etc, but again thats not my choice. I jsut want to point them in the right direction breed wise.
  19. I agree aussielover, robust/shorthaired/toy size/not high energy arent a mix that generally goes together lol
  20. Will suggest a basenji or Schipperke to her thats for the suggestions. I am not that familiar with the trailts of many smaller breeds, hence why I asked here.
  21. No, but the mother has a rod in her leg from hip to knee, and a plate in her wrist that are still healing, she cant handle a strong dog that pulls. The 10yr old has been asking for her own dog for over a year now. I am not asking whether they should get a dog - thats not my decision, I just want to point them in the right direction breed wise. If they choose to get a 2nd dog its better for everyone if the breed is well suited to their household.
  22. The mother would be with her, she wouldnt be taking the dog out on her own. The mother can walk she jsut cant handle the Boxer as she pulls pretty hard.
  23. They specifically want a puppy. The dog would get regular walks to the park as they go almsot every day to the park at the end of their street. Training wise the mother grew up with bullies her parents bred/showed them for years. So she isnt completly ignorant re:dogs. Their boxer is very well trained around the house, but she pulls on the lead and can be dominat with other female dogs. She has a great recall and very well mannered, she has been taught to sit, stay etc . At present the Boxer has a dog walker as the mother was badly injured in a car wreck 6 months ago and isnt strong enough to walk the Boxer yet. Hence they want a dog that is easier to walk that the 10year old can manage. They also want the dog as a companion for the boxer. So a small dog that doesnt have huge exerciose requirements is probably the go.
  24. Hi, a good friend of mine who currently has 3 children, aged 10, 9 and almost 3 is wanting a puppy for her 10year old. They already have a 4year old purebred boxer bitch who isnt good with other adult females but is ok with males and should be fine with a puppy after careful introductions etc. The 10yr old wants a small dog she can carry around and sleep in her bed and be able to walk etc. The mother isnt so keen on long haired dogs and prefers short coats. The dog would need to (eventually) be able to be with the boxer dog and hopefully play together, so it would need to be a little robust. It would sleep inside at night and be outdoors most of the day once old enough. They are wanting a purebred dog. Their current boxer is very much part of the family and gets loads of attention. They have minded an adult iggy of mine for a month previously and really enjoyed having him. Boxer and my iggy played all day and got along famously. The 10year old loves the look of cavs, but the mother isnt keen on the longer coat. Any breed suggestions would be welcome!
