Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed
indigirl replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
I never realised just how much goldens love to dig. Gawd. Also although older iggies are quiet sedate companions, young iggies are full on and VERY active. -

Please Keep An Eye Out For Maddi's Show Set
indigirl replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
Jeez ppl are slack My show leads were all custom made I would be devastated if they were stolen! -
It prolly wasn't large enough for the dog to get a good grip on!

I always secure crates in the back of my car by running a chain thru one end and attaching it to the anchor points in the back

I have 3 entire biotches and one desexed bitch. The 2 larger dogs sometimes have a blue when one is coming into season. Thankfully its all noise and no ahrm ever done although I always serarate them for a few days afterwards. They are usually the best of mates. The smaller bitches are iggies, very low agression breed wise so no issues with them.

Cheapest Flight Options For Dogs?
indigirl replied to blackbirdblue's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your cheapest option is to find someone who is flying that can take the dog as excess luggage. The next cheapest option is dogtainers. They buy their travel space in bulk so they get a much better deal than you or I could if we fly the dog independantly. It doesnt cost as much as you think to fly dogs around - unless they are large breeds in which case I would suggest you use a road transport like GTE. If you can borrow a crate to fly the dog in you will save yourself approx $70. I do rescue and try to keep at least one PP40 crate in both syd and melb which can be used to transport the dogs. If you use your own crate at least you know the crate is clean. Dogtainers often uses a hose to clean crates between dogs and thinks this is enough! I live in Broken Hill so i fly a lot of dogs. One hint is that when you contact dogtainers for a quote, ask if that is their best price. Often they will reduce the cost by up to $50 just like that. Also dont fly dogs on Fridays. If a flight is too heavy with luggage the dog will get bumped to the next avail flight. This is much more likely to happen on Fridays. You can often get a better price if you fly the dog early in the week. Good on you for adopting a rescue ETA If all else fails contact pikespooches about the possibility of your dog travelling with a truckie. -
When I lost my golden puppy Ripley (in my sig) in tragic circumstances I took a year off from showing, obedience etc. When I finally decided I was ready to get back in the ring I stil wasnt ready to go back into group 3 and be around all the golden ppl. I had always admired italian greyhounds and I had a desexed iggy Sultan as a pet. IGs are in group 1 and I knew virtually no one from Group 1 which suited me jsut fine. I was lucky enough to be able to buy a lovely iggy bitch, through a breeder i met on DOL. At first it seemed very strange with a new breed. Even setting up a dog on a table was foreign to me. But fast forward 18 months and I now have 4 iggies and my first iggy litter is on the ground. I still have my golden bitch and Im planning a litter for the end of the year. I will prolly always have both breeds from now on. They are very different and have very different needs, however I enjoy the diversity and love both breeds.

My first litter is on the ground now, just 4 days old. Theres a woman I know who breeds cockers that lives nearby and i went over and observed a few whelpings there. My breeder was extremely helpful but she lives 1000km away so she couldnt do much other than offer advice/answer questions. Bitch and dog were both maidens, ended up having an AI done as the bitch wouldnt stand long enough for a tie - may have been my lack of experience which contributed to this im not sure. Next time round i will be more in control of the whelping. I ended up with a group of ppl at my house and Im sure this caused the bitch some stress. I called one person to come qand help and they callled/brought others. I would have preferred to just call the others if i had questions. So next time around (will be a different breed) I will in very much in control over who is there for the whelping. I will also listen to my instincts more. Apart from that I think I could have been a little more prepared, as she whelped a few days earlier than expected. Thus far pups are great and the bitch is a wonderful mother. There are 4 pups and only one will need to find a home so shouldnt be too difficult. The other 3 all have homes lined up. When the time comes i plan to evaluate the puppies using the Hastings Puppy Puzzle, as well as sending pics and footage of each pup to my breeder for her opinion.

Possible Behavioural Issue - Dog Going To The Bathroom Inside

Oh my god thats a lot of mess froma dog that size! You have my sympathy! -
You are putting aircon in the dog kennel? Wouldnt it sjut be easieer to let the dog into the aircon house? Thats what I do.

I have trouble thinking of another breed I would like to own. I admire lots of breeds but when it comes to comnpatibility and ownership then the list is very short. . The dog i would really like to own is overseas and theres none in Aus yet! I currently own and show 2 breeds and plus I have several rescue mutts. I have had difficulty coming up with another mid size breed I would like to own actually. I envy those who have a long list of dogs they would like to own!

Lol my friends lab was on 'special' due to the odd colouring, which is why they chose him. Its alsmot like a coolie merle type pattern but in chocolate, very odd but def a purebred lab. I aksed him about it and he said the breeder told him the colour had not developed correctly, so obviously a mismark. I had jsut never seen it before (or since).
-
A friend has a purebred lab that is the strangest colour. He is chocolate but something went wrong lol. Its like the pigmentation in his coat is stronger in some places than others. So he is a mix of a really light kinda chocolate colour plus normal chocolate. Beautiful dog but strange colouring. The rest of the litter was normally coloured Im told. Will try to find a pic of him. He def isnt silver though!

You know what they say .. the ignorant are like the poor, they will always be with us

I once put a dble bed mattress in the backyard, intending to take it to the dump. My then dog completly shredded the mattress and it was a huge job picking up all the bits lol. So I would NEVER give a dog a mattess again!

I seem to be a magnet for lost dogs! They seem to always find my house. I dislike them coming into my yard as they set my dogs off. However I always try to catch them and see if there are contact details on thier collar. If not I will take them to the pound rather than risk having them hit by a car. I too would yell at a strange dog in my yard near my own dogs. I have no way of knowing whether the dog has any kind of disease etc and i certainly dont want it near my dogs. Rather than yell nastily and scare it away however, I tend to call out to it and try to get it to come to me. I will then chain it in my front yard whilst i call the number on its tags etc. I am guessing this GS is lost and confused. Hopefully it can be reunited with its owner asap.

Family's Beloved Rottweiler Wakes Up After Being Put To Sleep With
indigirl replied to Burkes's topic in In The News
Whenever I have had an animal PTS the vet has always checked there is no heartbeat before declaring the animal is dead. What a stupid vet. -
I mop mine out instead of hosing it with the 'doggie mop' which is used for gross animal stuff LOL. I then rub it down with a doggie towel to partially dry it. As yet I've no signs of rot and ive had the trailer i think 3 or 4 yrs now. Has wooden floors. I have marine carpeting on the floors with Dry bed on that then D1000 snooza beds on top. Seems to work ok! In summer i put bags of ice from the servo in there with the dogs - it works like an aircon and they stay lovely and cool. The dogs lick the ice as it melts too so they have a constant supply of water. They also have cool coats they wear. When they get home i empty the trailer and mop out any water as stated before. Even in very hot weather it stays cool enough in the dog trailer. When its very hot (38deg+) i dont attend shows anyway, though i sometimes travel with dogs for other reasons on hot days. I got a bigger door fitted to the bay where my golden goes, makes it easier to clean etc. If buying another trailer I would get different mesh doors, security mesh ones with keyed locks so I could leave the dogs in the trailer with the doors open and never have to worry about them escaping etc. My inner doors are jsut weldmesh with slide bolt thingies. I jsut have a small trailer, a 2 berth one. My dogs like to travel/sleep together and the rest of the stuff inc gazebo fits in the car.

Bull arabs are a hunting breed mix. So they are cross bred pig dogs
