  1. Yes but the dog was desexed, vaccinated, chipped etc so I thought it was a fair price.
  2. To add a different perspective... About 5 months ago Sue Conroy contacted me. I run Iggy rescue and she had an IG in the shelter she wanted us to take. She had all the vetwork done and sold him to us for around $300. He did come with kennel cough but that's hardly different than any other poumd or shelter. Toby was 8 years old and overweifht, he wasn't the cutest dog I've ever seen he was nothing super special. However Sue went out of her way to ensure he was safe. She was helpful and polite to me at all times. This is the only contact I've ever had with LDH. I am not trying to suggest that things at LDH don't need to change, certainly the euth rates are scary. I've also read lots of stories recently about things that have occurred there and they really concern me. However I have to say (based on my experience) some LDH dogs ARE going to rescue. Sue contacted me, I didn't know the dog was there. I'm sure this isn't the only time they have worked with rescue in recent times. It may be only a select few that get to rescue, but some do. Toby did.
  3. They sell them on ebay as breakaway collars. Petsafe make them I think.
  4. Have you tried Ruthless Leather? I haven't bought any of her leads but I have several collars and they are stunning. Find her on facebook and you can see all the pics of what she makes.
  5. Dose is written in the bottle at home lol I have ivermectin at home for heartworm
  6. Jed I use it 3 days running if I suspect there's giardia around. For straight working I jsut use it the once, should I use it 3 days running each time?
  7. As I understand it cushings can involve a tumour in the pituitary gland. Said tumour can then affect brain function as it grows and applies pressure to the brain.
  8. I bought sn OKS trolley sbout 18 months ago, love it. It is durable, lightweight and Martin is very easy to deal with I had a few mods on mine too - horizontal bar all around plus an umbrella stand.

    Boxer

When I got my boxer Fluke I didnt know a lot about the breed. He was the best behaved pup until he reached 7 months then he became the jaws if destruction. As I was used to gundogs I figured he needed more exercise. So I tried that with zero improvement in his behaviour. Then Jed suggested what he needed was more time with me. Amazingly this solved the problem. My Flukey is now 3.5 yes old and the best dog. Love him. Love the breed. He Is my first boxer bit he won't be my last :)
  10. She has quite a few symptoms that fit with cushings so hoping it's not that
  11. She's a cow of a dog, I call her my Karma-cow but she has my heart. Can't fathom losing her earlier then about 13 yrs. She is my baby this one.
  12. She's having full blood screen as well as test for cushings. I dont know whether to hope something shows up or not.
  13. Hiya karma was desexed several yrs ago after she developed pyometra. I am grateful for everyone's advice and suggestions. I'm going to get vet to check her eyes and also get her tested for cushins disease as donr if the symptoms fit. I'll then seek further vet advice on what to try next if tests don't show up anything. She's cleared for PRA by parentage so it's not that.
  14. I'm so sorry Kirsten. RIP Henry
  15. I have a golden who has just turned 9 yrs old. She arrived at 8 weeks and she and has been hard work since the day she arrived. She is s beautiful girl, well bred and great tenperament. However she digs like she is possessed, shreds toys books and anything else she can snaffle off the kitchen bench. She has always been very demanding and opinionated. She sheds like you wouldnt believe even when groomed regularly (she was shown for the first 4 yrs). Smart dog and learned commands easily but hard to live with due to her demanding nature and destructive behaviour. Great with other dogs, great with cats too. Too strong for kids and too boisterous for toddlers. Not all goldens are as difficult as mine. But many are. A golden can be a force to be reckoned with. I wouldnt recommend anyone get a golden pup unless you are comitted to spending oodles of time with them. They can't live outside they need to be indoor dogs snd be with their ppl so this has to be taken into consideration. I doubt parents who are not doggy ppl would cope with a golden pup.
  16. Hi im after opinions. I think my golden retriever Karma may be in the early stages of dementia. She's only just turned 9 yrs old which seems a bit young to me. I've noticed the following changes in her behaviour: - housetraining accidents - panting and pacing at night - appears to have forgotten a number of voice commends she's known most of her life - Karma has always been very barky and in recent months she's gotten very quiet. While this is not an unwelcome change it's still a noticable change in behaviour - when out in the backyard with me (she's an indoor dog) she will go to the back door and barks to go in. I call out to her and she realises I'm still outside and stops barking. It's like she forgets im out there with her even though I'm not far from her. - she will want to go out but then she just stands outside the back door like she's not sure why she is there. she will stand there until I call her back in. - I often find her standing in the bathroom or laundry like she's not quite sure why she is there, or she can't decide what to do Does this sound like the early stages of dementia? Apart from the above changes she's eating well and happy in herself. Still affectionate with me and still loves going for walks. She still likes to shred toys and dig holes.
  17. From what I understand the kennel owner is a CFS volunteer and was out fighng fires. The RSPCA was meant to come and evacuate the kennel but the roads were closed due to fire and no one was allowed in to the area.. Owners believed the animals were safe butt then wind changed direction. Owners own aniamls died in the fire. Owner was not allowed back in to get to the anaimls either. I just hope the aniamls were dead before the flames reached them.
  18. Lol Jed. My boy doesmt drool but he snores :)
  19. Heh :) just being honest lol
  20. If you are anti drool you might be better with a different breed. i think all boxers drool snore and fart :)
  21. I jsut paid $150 for a litre of Pamacor 100 which is a good price for it. Still stings jsut after xmas though. Wondering if there is a cheaper worming option for multi dog households than im unaware of?
  22. That's awful so glad I live in NSW!
  23. The photo may be so they can look you up in Facebook and be sure they have the right person. Facebook is a good way to check ppl out I have to say.
  24. It may be more a case of thinking you have something to hide if you don't want to share pics with her. As she can't meet you in person it's one way of showing her you are being open and honest with her. I too would be more concerned about sending a puppy to an immaculate house then a house with normal household mess. She's not the clean police, what does it matter if she sees pics of the inside of your house really? If it were me I would go a step further and offer to FaceTime with her so she can have a virtual tour of the house and also see you in real time. I've facetimed a few of my puppy buyers so they can see their pup. Each time the puppy buyers have given me a bit of a tour without me asking or suggesting it, but they usually want to show me where the puppy will sleep plus their backyard plus all the new toys they have bought lol When she ask what drives you etc it may be that she's just wanting to get to know you - it's not a pass/fail thing. It's a way of learning who you are. Same for the pics of you, it puts a face to the name for her. Almost all my puppies are rehomed far away as I live in a remote area. So meeting the owners prior to selling them a puppy is not usually an option. I run a rescue and part of the process is an actual physical inspection of their yard prior to the adoption being approved. So to adopt a dog from us you will have someone we know tramping thru your house and yard. It's the only way we can be certain the yard is securely fenced. If you have nothing to hide I don't think it's that big a deal. We aren't checking to see if the floors are vacuumed and beds made, it's about checking to see if it's a secure and appropriate environment for the dog.
