  1. I see that remark as being rude & insensitive & quite stupid under the circumstances. Even if the child was a silly little brat that ran up to the dog, which he obviously is not, no mother with a child that is badly injured & traumatised needs to be told this or be told how to feel about the dog at this moment. Hopefully the child will come out of this ok mentally & physically & kind words to this effect is all she needs right now. The rest can be sorted later, including the fate of the dog. +1
  2. Shezz I hope your sons recovers quickly. How awful for him and for you. If a dog is so unstable that a child being "too close" to it provokes an attack then it shouldn't be at a dog show. I have to wonder why the owner allowed your child so close to the dog if it had that kind of temperament. Surely the owner could have politely told your child not to get too close to the dog etc. It's not your son who is to blame here, it's the owner of the dog who attacked him.
  3. I have 4 larger dogs - kelpie x, golden, Wolfie x and a boxer, plus I have a small herd of Italian greyhounds lol. All are pets who live inside. I also have 6 pet cats who also live indoors. I currently have a 6 week old iggy litter, am looking forward to the relative sanity of just the regular crowd here. With the pups in the house too I feel like the animals have taken over lol. I regularly have a foster IG too, sometimes two. It's chaotic and crazy at mealtimes ugh.. But otherwise it's amazingly calm. Visitors are shocked when they realise how many animals I have in the house as they are all quiet and settled.
  4. Its the severity of it, 30 bites? That's not just a dog getting riled and snapping, that's a dog trying to kill someone. I undrstand what you are saying but did your dog bite you 30 times? Something was very wrong with that dog, or something must sve happened to set him off.
  5. Wow I really wonder what occurred prior to the attack. If the owner had 30 bite wounds then his dog was trying to kill him I would guess. Would be interested to know how the owner treated his dog and whether the dog was mistreated just before it attacked its owner.
  6. Lol would consider buying it if you weren't so far away. I'm in Broken Hill so addedo fright cost would make it much less of a bargain for me :)
  7. I use that exact bed as whelping box for my Italians, works great :) very well made.
  8. Word of warning, make sure the zip is done up tight. If they can manage to get a toe in they can open the zip and destuff the inner. Been there done that lol but the outside hasn't been damaged at all in over a year. Great beds :) .. Buy em on eBay and they are heaps cheaper.
  9. The big studded chest plate also implies this is a dog who can be dangerous, I would ave been nervous too
  10. My heart dog was named Truck, she was a female kelpie cross who lived to 13.
  11. Most flea washed are meant to dry on the dog from memory. Dog dryers all blow cold air cos warm or hot air can easily burn them.
  12. There's a movie "Men who stare at Goats" 2009, Ewan McGregor and George Clooney. Ahhhh lol :)
  13. Loved the pics! Wish I was closer would love to cone along with a few of my Iggies and give them a run :)
  14. Aww he was sharing it with you I think finding a half eaten possum would make me feel ill. During the mouse plague out here last year the dogs killed mice but never ate them as far as I know.
  15. I'm 3 hrs from Mildura amd I didn't know there was any in the area at all. Have you advised her to exercise the dog to he's tired? A tired dog is usually a good dog. If its only a young dog then he can't have vigorous physical exercise but she can exercise his brain with problem solving activities , obedience, teaching him tricks etc. That might help until she can find a behaviorist.
  16. For the indoor puppy pen I have vetbed in sleeping area and play area and newspaper the toilet area. For the outdoor pen I'm going to use synthetic grass this time, the puppy pen is roofed so grass has all died and I don't want the pups rolling in dirt all day. Will use synthetic grass for most of the pen and leave about a quarter as dirt for toilet area which I will initially place newspaper over til they get used to toileting there. Haven't thought about using Marie carpet indoors, might try that or the play area and see how it goes. thanks for the idea :)
  17. I've bought 5 purebred dogs, all sight unseen and had them flown here. When you live in the stix it just isn't practice to expect to be able to see pups in the flesh first. I've also rehomed many rescues to interstate homes and none f them saw the dog eforehand except thru pics.
  18. Lol well they issued me a certificate for a prefix they didn't approve
  19. No idea why, dogs are animals and they do what they do. Can't always predict how a dog will react to a puppy. I think anyone who takes a baby puppy to a dog park is a fool. Apart from the aggression issues with other dogs my fear is disease. I won't allow my dogs to go to public doggy places until at least 6months of age, and then only if there's not been a recent parvo outbreak. Hope the puppy is ok amd doesn't become fear aggressive to other dogs from this. Eta I will take a baby puppy to a dog show but dogs are controlled there and the pups feet barely touch the ground until just outside the ring.
