  1. A few years ago an old bloke, died andthe family dumped his two elderly shelties in Albury pound. Albury rescue took them and I took one and another lady took the other. Wally was a pain in the arse LOL he barked constantly, was deaf as a post, had failing eyesight and a gimpy leg. But I will always be grateful that I took him and he got to spend his last year here. He was the loveliest old soul and I really loved him. When I find the right dog I will take on another oldie that's been left in a pound. I'm not looking for one as such, but always have my eye out :) old dogs are wonderful!
  2. Iggyrescue got an email today from someone looking for an Italian greyhound to breed to her whippet! Apparently she had an IG/whippet cross in the last who was a wonderful dog and she wants to reproduce this breed mix. Who contacts rescue asking for a dog to breed to a different breed with????
  3. I have 2 storm phobic dogs. They do stuff like literally tear doors off their hinges and smash their way out of,dog crates and so on. I use rescue remedy and thunder shirts but they still freak. I just try and contain them as best I can, they are both large dogs one is. 35kg golden and the other is a 55kg bullmastiff cross so they are very strong. I just live with it as I can't do much about it. I don't fuss over them I just try and act like its no big deal. Plus I turn up music or tv to try and help drown the storm out. The golden always breaks into the spare room for some reason when there's a storm? She doesn't stay in there but she crashes into the door til it opens, no idea why. Last big storm the bullmastiff cross almost choked himself he rammed his head thru the bottom of a locked door and got stuck there. His neck was being jammed between the door and the door frame. I was away and had a friend staying with the dogs, she heard him making wierd noises and went to checkin him and found him jammed in the door.
  4. Ok we'll she only had the three but all strong active puppies with lovely markings. Phew
  5. 2 pups so far. 1 male 1 female, on my way home in cab now
  6. My flight just got offloaded in Dubbo due to technical problems ... Sigh
  7. My Iggy bitch is in first stage labour and I'm 1000km away! Talk about stressful. Was really really hoping shed hold off til I got home. I had to go away for work. My friend is with her and has had experience whelping other litters but I still hate putting all this responsibility on her.. Dammit. My plane lands at midday. God I hope she has a loooong forst stage and can wait til. Get home before she actually starts whelping.
  8. Debarking isn't cruel. The dog still barks as much as it always did, however it just won't be loud enough to not anyone. Debarked dogs aren't silent, they just have a much softer bark. My debarked dog can still wake me up if he's barking in another room in the house at night.
  9. I had a bunny who had to have a rear leg amputated. He did fine except he sometimes forgot to lean against a wall before trying to from himself with his one remaining leg in that side. So he would fall over lol.
  10. Incredible piece of writing. I admire her for being able to put it on paper, I can never find the words myself to express my love for my dogs. Somehow the words I use never seem big enough. Lovely lady and what a cherished dog :)
  11. I insure my Iggies for accidental injuries until they are 18 months old. I am basically doing this in case they break a leg. Leg breaks in the breed are almost always in the 4-12 month age bracket. Thus far I haven't needed to make a claim and I hope I never do! The premium is about $15 a month per dog. I used to have insurance on all my dogs but the cost became prohibitive.
  12. My golden got the hot spot from hell last summer I'm worried this summer she will get another similar. She's turning 7 this month and has had a few over the years but nothing like the one she got last year. Se had to be sedated to have it shaved and scrubbed ugh. I used neocort on it. I tried everything else, curash betadine etc and nothing was working. It just seemed to triple I'm size in 24 hrs, was really nasty so keep an eye on your dog.
  13. Rouge royalty make strong collars for strong dogs Ruthless leather collars are fabulous. Jesskah's Rope Tack makes very strong leads at a great price. They are also soft on your hands. I believe she has bull snaps too. I buy half martingale collars from northernhund they are well made and built to last. They are in Japan but ship to Oz.
  14. Oh no how horrific .. Very small yard for 4 large dogs though. Can't imagine how the daughter is feeling.
  15. I've tried hIlls, advance, black hawk and others in the past. The best for the bigger dogs was actaully Bonnie working dog, and for the Iggies Advance was the best. However I don't feed dry at all now.
  16. RIP Orange... Hope the scum responsible is caught.
  17. Surprised its not worse. We are north of this location and we had a terrific storm go through starting with Thunder and Lightening from 6pm with a heck of a lot of rain (about two inches) added at 2.30am. If it hit us it would have hit there as well. Would have been absolutely terrifying for the child. Surprised the dog would have hung around. Some of the thunder we got around midnight would have woken the dead. LizT in that area they would have been on a block. The city proper is a few more k's up the road. Iwas in Mildura last night and the storm went around us, we got a bit of rain and could hear thunder but it didn't hit Mildura luckily.
  18. Thanks., its a maiden bitch so fingers crossed she whelp easily.
  19. I've got an Italian greyhound litter due on 30th Nov :)
  20. I started showing with no one to help me. Went to my first shiw and just followed the crowd LOL. Watched some videos so I knew what you were meant to do (in theory) and just watched from the sideof the ring and copied what everyone else seemed to be doing. It's not hard and honestly showing your own dog is a great experience. As she is a baby she won't be expected to behave perfectly so you can get away more with making rookie mistakes.
