Maybe some rescue remedy?
-
I've heard ginger snap biscuits work to settle their stomachs- never had the need to use them though so can't really comment. Lola use to get really bad car sickness so we just some short trips with her - lengthening the time each time. Now as soon as the car starts moving she just goes straight to sleep! When we stop at traffic lights she pops her head up then is back snoring as soon as the car starts moving!

Thats good to hear Ruth! Still keeping an eye on Hero's lump but even if it doesn't get any bigger we will be getting it removed next week - I just have to decide which vet to go with I'm leaning towards our regular vet, even though they're more expensive, because they have his medical history and have been treating him since he was a pup so they kind of know him there...
-
Just back from the vet- he had a shot of anti-histamines and a shot of steroids plus we have steroids he has to take over the next 7 days and something called iremine? The vet said he has swelling down his ear canal and a bit of a high temp. His reaction is also getting worse not better, when I went to pick him up his face had swollen up and it looked like he had a golf ball shoved in side his lip! The antihistamines should kick in with in an hour so hopefully it'll all go down soon the poor thing is so uncomfortable!

Have an appointment for 11:10 at the vets. One thing these dogs are good at is keeping me in poverty thats for sure!

There's no swelling in his nose thank fully. I am at work at the moment had to come in early for a container but will take him as soon as I can - my sister is home with him keeping an eye on him.

Hero has come up in welts all over. It started with two on his chest last night and within and hourthey were all over his underbelly and behind. No vet were open at this time so I just gave him an iodine bath and put some aloe on them. This moring they are much worse and seem itchier for him. Obviously it's an alergic reaction to something as otherwise he is perfectly fine. Is there something I can put on them to make it go down or do I need to go to the vet for a anti-histamine? My vets are going to start thinking I'm that crazy hypocondriac dog lady

I'm not worried about how much it will cost. I got a second opinion because my regular vets always jump towards surgury and the vet I saw in I don't particularily like (there's three vets at the surgury and the vet I prefer is on holidays). I know my regular vets will do a good job and have always used them for our other dog stuff but I did prefer how the second vet spoke to me and explained everything- she seemed more willing to take the time and answer all the questions I had and explain my options then the first vet. :D will have to give it some thought over the next couple of days.

Thanks Staffyluv- I think I will get it removed, just for peace of mind. I would hate to decide to leave it there thinking it was nothing only to find out a year down the track that it is a MCT. The second vet said that even if they were to asperate it he would have to be sedated (because of where it is and how excited he gets at the vet) and if they were going to sedate him for that they may as well remove it and be certain. She was happy that she could move the lump around - she said it was a good sign that it wasn't in the deeper muscle tissue so I don't think it's any bigger then it feels (which is about the size of a 10cent piece) Now I just have to decide which vet to go with to get it removed!

I took Hero and got a second opinion on monday at a different vet- reccomended by my uncle who is a breeder and has used them for a long time. This vet reccomended leaving it for 2 weeks, keeping a close eye on it and if it gets any bigger to have it removed. She was alot better then my first vet- explained everything to me and answered all my questioned. She said it is definately not a cyst but she highly doubts its cancer as all his glands are normal as is his temp and he is in perfect health otherwise. She said it is more likely it is from the anti-biotic shot he received when he had a bad bount of gastro, from rough housing with Lola or my even be a grass seed. She also explained that it's too small to asperiate as she could never be sure she got cells from the lump itself. She also quoted me for the surgury and it is alot less then at my regular vet. I have traced around the lump on wax paper and check it every day so far it hasn't got any bigger at all which is good. She also said that if I'm still worried about it in two weeks, even if it hasn't gotten any bigger, just to get it removed and have it tested just for peace of mind.

Well just got back from the vets - she didn't asperate it but wants to remove it and send it off for tests- she doesn't think testing the cells you get from asperating are conclusive enough. I'm not sure if I should get a second opinion before they operate.. I really don't want to put him through surgery, the anesthesia (sp??) and everything if it really is nothing. This vet also tends to always suggest the most expensive option, I'm not sure if it's about the money or if she'd just thorough.. Should I get a second opinion and have it asperated before I put him through surgery? Or are aspirations really not as accurate as I thought??

I have Hero booked in for 12 tomorrow to have his lump looked at, I will be insisting they asperate (sp?) it just to be sure as well. Wish us luck!

A mast cell is exactly what I'm worried about Staffyluv.. I really hope it's not that...
-
I think i'll keep an eye on it for a few days and if it's still there after christmas I'll take him to the vet... Hope it's nothing serious with Ivan either ruthless, hopefully it is just a fatty deposit
-
I hope I get told I'm being silly to dogsforall!! I don't think its a grass seed or insect bite. The lump isn't attached to the outer layers of skin, if you know what I mean- I can move the skin around above the lump...
-
Last night I found a lump on Hero's chest just off centre from his chest bone, it's under the skin and feels like when you have swollen gland in your throat. It does sort of move around when to push it- doesn't hurt him. About the size of a 10cent piece round. Not on the other side. Does it sound like some thing to worry about? He is only 2 so I would think he is to young for it to be tumor

About a week ago Hero came up with a rash in his left ear- sort of like tiny little pimply bumps (no whits heads on them though) all over in side of his ear though they don't appear to go down into the ear canal. I have been keep an eye on him and they don't seem to be bothering him too much and there isn't any yeasty smell. Any ideas on what it could be or what could have caused it? If it doesn't go away or if it gets worse I'll take him to the vet I'm just interested to see if any one has any ideas on what it could be first. I tried to take photo's but you can't really see anything.

If it were me I would growl back and say a very firm "no!" or "ahh!" then put him outside or in his naughty room. Also he may be reacting this way as it may physically hurts him when you pick him up, I would be getting a once over to make sure there are no problems at your next vet check up (which would be soon I'd say).

Out side with the hose (at allowed times of cause!). We gave up on trying to bath our dog's in the bath tub- they are like yours- don't mind being soaped up but hate having it washed off but they love running under the hose! Being short haired breeds they really only need washing once a month and the garden gets good water at the same time!

Nutro Have tried alot- Proplan Eagle Pack (regular and holistic) Royal Canin Eukanuba (regular and holistic) Natures Gift Optimum Pal Plus a few others I can't think of right now Nutro is definately the best I have found!

Poor thing that looks so painful for the poor boy I agree a snood or similar is a good idea for his toilet runs, he would only need to wear it when you take him out and could take it off when he came back in. Hoping he has a quick and full recovery. -
I'm so sorry he was too young... I never come in here and I saw the title and, like everyone else, thought nahh couldn't be. I'm so sorry for you loss.. Sleep tight little man

Yeah thats the one! I don't buy the brisket bones (they aren't big enough for my dogs) but he brings out chicken carcasses for me from their other store I go in about once a week and just say to one of the guys "what have you got today?" my dogs have got some interesting things from him! He's not the cheapest butcher in the world but it's great service and his meat is always really good quality! OT- 4 paws thanks for the food! Have sent you and email!
-
which one?? I go to the one in Daisy St - he has really good meat (raises and kills his own mostly) and always has stuff put away for me for the dogs! Pet barn must have been low on stock this week because they didn't have alot of meat aside from mince. Haven't been to any butchers in Fairy Meadow, I might head out there though. They have two freezers- there are the big ones along the left wall as you walk in the bones are in a smaller deep freeze to your right next to the stairs. I never noticed it before either as it's kind of hidden, I should have mentioned that before sorry!
