Welcome Ilovedobes and Buggerme Buggerme, your pup is very cute In terms of showing I am fairly sure that the GSDA can help you with showing a GSD as well. GSD aren't that well supported in WA in the All Breed ring but are quite popular in the speciality ring Although some shows do put on a specialty ring for the GSD now (well I know of 2 ROFL!)

Found photos - albeit not so good ones Scam is the rBIG and his daughter Precious was Junior IG http://www.actroyal.com/html/working_2010.html

OzJen is just trying to act all secretive She is visiting Sheltie babies :p But they won't be as cute yet as the little boy I got to play with on the weekend as he is soo fluffy already This lot are only 4 weeks (or will be by the weekend ) so I will wait until they are a bit older and fluffier before I demand puppy cuddles ;) RS, it is a black tri to black tri mating so definitely no merles expected. Not sure where you can see photos of Scam (and Static - the mother) except on FB...
-
Scambo has been back in Perth a couple of months now - he and his red daughter were meant to be at the show this weekend just gone but K piked . Unfortunately I doubt I get puppy cuddles at this visit (have to go down and pick Raven up) but might need to organise a visit in 6-8 weeks

Kathy G ;) Her import bitch is in whelp to her lovely boy Scam and is due this week Black and red tri pups only. Wonder if I can steal one to show since all my show dogs are broken :p Oh and I love your dream RS

Amypie, that is just way too cute! Hopefully I will be able to see some Aussie puppies soon :D Probably will be born before I visit this weekend but possibly not open to visitors yet... I am pretty sure the puppy breath OzJen gets to snuggle into isn't of the Aussie variety... what I want to know is why I didn't get an invite : Although they aren't at the really cute age yet

Happy Birthday Trixie And well done to those who braved the weather today

Since the show ring generally wants to make animals "bigger" and "better" and the "traditional" breed features more extreme I would expect a show lines dog to be bigger that a working line dog. That is certainly the way it is in most breeds I know anyway I wouldn't say they are better though Aussie Sheps are one that I love - breed standard says "moderate" yet a lot of what gets put up is "heavy"! As a kelpie owner I see no difference to a dog being called a bench kelpie or a show kelpie... the term bench kelpie came at a time when show dogs were all benched like they are at the Royal Shows. And my kelpie likes being on a bench particularly if I am sitting next to him and he can crawl into my lap

Sounds good vCBR Kavik I am glad you asked coz it saved me typing the same question
-
If you have a heater going I will find you ;) Kelpies and Lappies are both working breeds, so Group 5 ST, missed your post about clashing as well... I have never shown an OES but if you need a handler I am happy to help at least for breed :D Would be warmer than sitting there :D Although if it rains it will at least be warmer than it has been
-
I will be there on Friday night and Sunday with Banjo (black Kelpie) and Robi & Boots (black/tan Finnish Lapphunds)
-
Congratulations for surviving your first show With good results too. Of course this thread is missing something... where are the photos? Even if not from the show day you can't say you have a BC baby and not post photos

Parvo has been very rife in WA for a while now :p A friend lost one pup in a litter at home and all of the others were very sick after they took one of the adults to a show and didn't disinfect when returning home (the adult dog was perfectly fine). While they might have picked it up elsewhere chances are it was picked up at the show. And most likely it wasn't people taking sick dogs to the show but dogs (or people!) "carrying" the virus :p As to the Winter Festival being under cover... it is a split show so there should be more than enough room Unless you get the normal people who go and set stuff up on Friday and then leave it up all weekend without using it : Personally we desperately need the rain so if it means I will be slightly "inconvenienced" I really don't care ETA: My guys haven't been to a show since mid-April, so I really need to remind them how to be show dogs this week
-
Bugger you can't go the the Winter Festival LR Banjo will send you virtual kelpie kisses instead WDC show... I really don't know if I will go or not There are also two horse shows that I am tossing up about on that day as well. So will decide closer to entries closing As to other Kelpies, Trinity's daughter is showing atm as far as I am aware, and Trinity did the last show I went to however I know there was talk of re-breeding her. 6 more weeks until I find out if I need to make more room on my bed too

My parents have one so I get to be warm when I have dinner, then have to go to my cold house (stopping on the way to let ponies out of the stable so getting freezing then too Yet they complain that the fire is too hot (while I am standing less than a metre away from it ) OzJen, you are as bad as my Mum
-
Same (although works airconditioner is on freezing all year round Gotta love working at a hospital). Luckily all 4 dogs act as hot water bottles at night in winter
-
Strangely enough today felt warmer at my place than the last few days We actually didn't have ice in the horses water buckets although the grass was still white
-
Agree completely. My first dog bought as a show and agility dog ended up with a bad demodectic mange, then her jaw went undershot after her teeth change and finally she developed chronic muscle problems (and her litter sister went lame a week after my girl did). She is still my bed warmer nearly 9 years later I never even considered sending her back to the breeder, not that the breeder would have taken her back

While it is an old email for a product not available in Australia it is a reminder to people to check every product they use that their animals can access.

Dogs sold on main register are generally shown as show potential not as a show dog. However some breeders may allow you to return the pup and get another show potential puppy - that doesn't mean it will turn out any better and they are by no means obligated to do so. Why do you think so many pups are run on by breeders and then rehomed into a pet home? And as has been said, 6 month old puppies can look absolutely shocking One of the biggest winning Group 5 dogs in WA did very badly as a youngster. What has the breeder said?
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes OzJen, you going to post a picture of my prezzie? And vCBR that is a lovely photo I really need to get some more of my guys. Wonder if the weather will be good enough at Winter Festival as they won't be clean before then
-
While I personally wouldn't do it to my dogs I don't really have an issue with it as long as the products used aren't harmful. At least their owners are giving them attention (and taking them out on walks ) rather than them sitting in the back yard ignored.

Most trail riding places in Perth have shut down to insurance. The only one I really know of now is this mob: http://www.academyequestrian.com.au/ although there may be others still :D RS, a good friend and I went on a ride up in the Snowy Mountains in Victoria (Man from Snowy River country ) :D Was meant to be a camp out thing but since we ended up being on the only people we just rode out from base each day which was fine for us as it meant we had better beds and real toilets and showers
-
Bugger that the times clash but the offer is open for another time My guys get sent to Boot Camp with Kathy Griff who used to be near me but is now down in Oakford She has Australian Shepherds as well Oh and just because I had a brilliant ride on her today and I love her so much I decided I need to post a photos of my "bitza" pony ;)
-
My horses are "performance horses" Mainly of arab derivative and warmblood breeding... but my main competition horse at the moment is an absolute bitza Although a registered one who does extemely well at breed showing Her Mum was arab x (warmbloodxthoroughbred) and her dad is warmblood x (stockhorsexquarterhorse)
