Agreed Except for it not being cold at night... it is freezing here atm :D And I get the fun job of checking on a mare all night who is threatening to foal :D What is the bet she waits until her "due" date in 2 weeks though :D (Foaling 2 weeks early is within the normal range for mares: 320- 370 day is "normal" but "due" date is generally calculated on 340 days)

GR, Paddy is adorable Puppy cuddles :D ' I am hoping my cool coat fits too :D Tiggy, your Banjo isn't that little! My Banjo has been ordered a 22" coat and I am fairly sure my boy is a lot taller!

Keeping Dogs Out Of The Ring To Help Others
mirawee replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
The only time I would not show a dog is to let a bitch get the final points needed for her Ch before having a litter if they are only a few off. Saying that though I don't attend every show anyway You can tell that those saying you should have to have a 25 point BOB or BIG are from breeds with big numbers. In my opinion the Grand title should be changed and 25 Point BOB not be acceptable as it descriminates against lower number breeds who have to get BIG beating those dogs who might have achieved a 25 point BOB on the same day! Make the playing field fair for all breeds. As it is at the moment breeds such as Dobermans and Labradors can get a Grand title without ever beating another breed. And personally I don't think that a 25 point BIG is needed for a champion title. But then I have breeds of dog that quite a few judges, both Australian and definitely internationals, still look at as if to wonder what they are :D -
Emery, Kelari looks great at the Royal :D I forgot to take photos although I should see what the BOB photos taken by Trafford look like - just got to find them :D GR, exciting times! I look forward to seeing photos soon Lab_rat, good luck with your new additions. You will have to post photos of them all when they arrive.

Wow Cider's Royal debut looked amazing! Well done Ptolomy RS, don't be too disappointed by your kids... they can't have been anywhere near as bad as Jenna in the agility She goes into complete "where is my Mum" meltdown at the Royal I need to remember to do lots of focus work with her before we go in the ring. Oh, and I can't offer a cow paddock but I could probably offer a horse paddock and/or a sheep paddock if you don't mind a bit of a drive to get there!
-
As if you could do that Throw her over my fence before you throw her over the pound fence Crikeys! Glad she's okay! Wasn't quite that bad, she launched from near the top of the A-frame (Jenna has never even looked at missing the colour before yesterday That is Abbey's trick when she is feral) and landed on her feet but tripped on landing and went down on her shoulder (I was a bit closer and at a better angle to OzJen). OzJen grabbed her when she left the ring and was worried coz she was shaking - me being the cruel person I am went over and grabbed her, told OzJen she was fine and not to baby her and took her out the back to make her listen before putting her in the crate However I had noticed that she had trotted off perfectly sound after doing her dive bomb and she was "shaking" due to adrenaline from being a feral Aussie not coz she had injured herself I am assuming she pulled up all right today. OzJen? I can understand why you would have had a minor heart attack though A few dogs lost their footing on the grounds yesterday for some reason when turning or landing after jumps.

Haley, you sometimes see trailers for sale on the Dogswest noticeboard. But they don't seem to come up for sale fairly often and are often sold word-of-mouth. Heheh I can imagine the look on ozjen's face I bet the Lappies would have pulled a crowd, lovely fluffy teddy bears they are Is that what someone told you RE Kelpies? ;) Then you won't be able to show them! I got to catch some of the sheepdog demos which were done near the obedience / agiility section, just brilliant stuff, was great to watch. Lots of people love the lappies (and lots walk straight past them and go up to Banjo ) And yes that was what someone told me, even after I said I would love to do sheepdog training with Banjo (he has very high drive on sheep) but just don't have the time! Well trained sheepdogs are a joy to watch
-
Jenna loved it - I am not sure OzJen did though ;) Yeah we were very busy on Sunday. Remind me again why I have an "exotic" breed and one who reminds everyone of their dog? Although apparently I should be breeding working kelpies and selling them for lots of money rather than having show ones While it is true that started working kelpies can be sold for a lot of money you have to have the skill (and time) to start them first!
-
Could be that too, although are they used out in public view that often? I am sure there is some hidden reason for the seminar - would be nice to know what it is
-
That could be related to horses... there have been massive debates in the horse community internationally about the use of Rollkur and whether it is cause for a cruelty case, particularly in light of video up on Youtube of horses warming up at major competitions with their tongue hanging out looking blue ;) There has been a fair bit of research done into it funded by the FEI - the results of which were a matter of semantics to most people It would be an interesting talk to go to although price is very steep!
-
Tiggy, he looks lovely Over the last few days I have been offered 3 pups to show ;) But I want my kelpie pup Had a good two days with the pooches at the Royal... BOB for both Kelpies and Lappies on Sunday and then a "fun" day yesterday for agility. Would have been nice if Abbey and I hadn't stuffed up the last jump in both Masters rounds! Jenna had lots of fun though And Varda thought the crowd were too scary to go near this year
-
Traffic isn't too bad but it is the start of peak hour on weekdays However you don't have much Royal show traffic except for competitors so it is pretty cruisy actually around the showgrounds itself.
-
Yes had Banjo (Kelpie) as well as out two Lappies Boots and Asha and got BOB in both You should have said hello Although I seriously barely had a chance to stop most of the day! I think I managed to eat half my lunch I don't mind the Royal as it is a great way to promote our breeds but they both get so much interest it doesn't leave a lot of time to relax. Numbers were down a lot this year - lots of empty benches. But then except for the chance to promote purebred dogs to the public there is no real benefit to going to the Royal anymore. BOB prize was a Perth Royal Show cap... the main sponsor did not provide anything except for BIG and rBIG. We aren't good enough for Advance anymore in WA so no more of their brilliant prizes And we were there from 7.15am and got into our car around 6pm! But saying that I will still go as the benefit of that many of the general public in attendence outways the negatives And yes you get people who pat without asking but most who did that for my dogs often did so as someone was already patting, plus I wouldn't have them where they could be reached if my dogs would have worried about it. A large number of people (in particular children) asked before patting and I tried to thank those who did A lot waited to be asked if they wanted a pat as well And I didn't have one person complain about receiving Kelpie Kisses on their face ;)

My girl is Jess... named after the Footrot Flats dog She has a nice safe "bitches box" up high to protect her from the other feral hounds as well
-
Ooh looks like he is from the same "kennel" as my red/tan bitch!
-
Good luck to everyone competing in the teams agility tomorrow or the first day of showing I will be thinking of you when I wake up from my sleep in

Kenobi is too cute! Not helping puppy cluckiness Showdog, I think the biggest thing with the WC changes is that there was no consultation with those it affected. The first the trialling community heard about it was too late to do anything.
-
The obedience section of the WC runs at a loss (same with the majority of obedience trials held in WA...) So Governing Council (GC) decided to go to 3 days of agility and 1 of obedience, keeping the obedience challenge. At the GC meeting last night it was changed and the obedience challenge has been scrapped and the normal obedience reinstated. Apparently they couldn't just go back to the normal format as judges had already been appointed, schedule done etc etc. It is proposed to hold the obedience challenge at a later date yet to be decided. They will then relook at what they will hold in 2012.

End of Feb unless they change is to beginning of March like they have before
