  1. Yay :D Sounds good except for the working ability... They forgot to put "is a Spitz so will sometimes decide 'not today, thanks'" We were talking about guard dog ability last night and agree that the Lappies would bark initially then go and ask for pats :p How about Australian Kelpie? :D
  2. Chocolate and red are different colours according to show people. Although it is difficult to tell by looking sometimes :p Would be interesting to DNA test the chocolate and red show dogs to see if there is a different gene I do find it strange that you can't have tan markings with chocolate but can with red. But then I have seen some registered red/tan dogs who are darker brown than registered chocolate dogs :D As for the colours of the pups, what colour are the parents of the black/tan dog? If they are both black there is a good chance that the dog doesn't carry the red gene. If one parent was red then it was just a fluke that all dogs were born black/tan You would "expect" 50:50 from a red to black mating in terms of colour, but really it is a 50:50 chance of each pup being red or black
  3. I thought JT had won a Baby in Group Oh well at least you have one in The year I did it with Banjo we had three judges and went into the ring in groups of 3 and had to go from judge to judge stacking the dog each time for them to assess. But most were tolerant of the fact that it was weird for the babies so they were less likely to stand still after the first dog. Then once all three dogs had been gone over they were moved one at a time for the movement assessment. This year I saw somewhere that the judges will move to the dog rather than the other way around But again it will be 3 judges and they each give the dog a score. I want to see a Bichon doing agility I am sure we can sit on Amy so she can't offer any objections :D
  4. Showdog, is your boy eligible for the Supreme title once he has the final CC this year? Who has puppies entered in the Puppy of the Year contest? I am guessing SparkyTansy has both Weims in? Ptolomy has Straus? I have Anikka... anyone else?
  5. Have you looked into accounts set up specifically for Not for Profit groups? They are often called community group accounts or similar. They should give you a fee free cheque book and would make life a lot easier if you need to pay judges in the future
  6. I agree completely! I have a breed which is often first in the ring here. But I would still prefer to go in when it is slightly warmer for breed judging than have it hotter for Group judging when you stand in the sun for a much longer time.
  7. Happy New Year everyone Well done to those who got Group awards at the NYE show We bombed this year I had to laugh at my Dad this morning... since I don't have patients today I decided to go into work late :D He was ragging me about how it is easy for some choosing when they go to work (note: he is a teacher so has holidays until the end of Jan!). Was nearly ready to leave and had a call from him asking if I had gone yet. Since I hadn't I got to drive to our fish ponds and tow his Landy Ute back to their house as he has shorted it when trying to jump start one of the pumps Was quite amusing, particularly when he tried to push start it down one of the hills and managed to hit a tree Luckily he only hit it at around 5km/hr or less. Of course that then meant I had to try and get my car past to pull him off it then get around again and tow him the rest of the way home :D And he was ragging me about going to work late
  8. Banjo is special I have tried 2x2 weaves a couple of times with him but he just hasn't gotten the concept. Will need to look at other methods of teaching him so that we can do agility not just jumping LOL. Bugger about the crate door It is so easy to kick yourself after the fact.
  9. You lot are very quiet today. I am stuck at work and was hoping that you would entertain me :p RnR, Ben certainly is a very handsome boy I am sure he prefers to "help" you with gardening rather than being in the ring anyway LOL. I do wonder what they think about us parading them around on lead :D
  10. Just to add... I HATE grass seed season!
  11. I have successfully used chemical castration on a dog and he certainly had no desire for an in season bitch. I would be talking to your vet about your particular dog's circumstances though. In terms of the agression I wouldn't think that it is only hormones at 6 months of age so I hope you are working with a good trainer/behaviourlist to try and figure out what is causing it as I doubt that desexing will be an instant cure.
  12. Just heard from Mum... apparently Varda had a "ginormous" (in the words of the the vet :p) grass seed where one really shouldn't have been
  13. That was a score Ptolomy! Not that Cider required the vet but that you jagged seeing one. I could have rung and got them to come in, but given that I knew she would need to be sedated etc (and possibly a GA) they are better set up for it today. Am now waiting to hear how she is going as Mum had to leave her there. Also waiting to chat to my vet to decide what to do next with my old horse who is still not quite right Luckily I have a friend who can take him in tomorrow if needed so I don't need to have another day off work (had to take him in on the Friday before Christmas).
  14. He is very cute, that is what he is :D Most of the guesses would make a Large X not a medium. I agree that he is probably the result of quite a few crosses
  15. I hope everyone had a great Christmas :D RV, Toby looks good As for trimming my first thought was don't they cut their own hair?? I am very over my animals... currently waiting to hear from Mum who got to take Varda to the vet this morning as I am fairly sure my desexed bitch shouldn't have a bloody discharge Am thinking it is likely a grass seed given she is urinating fine and hasn't lost her appetite. She is quieter than normal though and we are having some yelps and complaints But not enough to make me take her to the vet yesterday bad mother I am!
  16. (((hugs))) to you and Bondi, Boxagirl RS, poor Millie! With one week to the NY what are my chances of not needing another vet visit? Had another one yesterday although luckily nothing too serious!
  17. Mine wake me up on days I attempt to sleep in - at the time I get up for work. I ignore them or tell them to bugger off and so they go back to sleep :D Saying that, on the days I get up really early for horse shows they look at me like I am crazy and refuse to get up
  18. Don't know if it is myth or not but apparently the more bobtails around the less chance of snakes We get some pretty impressive sized Goannas around as well :D Unforutnately the bobtails need to learn to keep out of my dogs' yard Although they have gotten less this year than usual so hopefully the message is being spread!
  19. RV, if you ask my Dad there are no snakes on our property since he hasn't seen one in the 6 years(?) he has been living there
  20. I have to admit the 75 min drive to the beach is as big a turn off as the sharks I do usually end up taking the horses once or twice in a year but don't know the last time I took dogs to the beach!
  21. I am going to stick with my lake where there are no sharks! Have fun at the beach though
