Don't worry, there is a similar set of genes in horses controlling chestnut, bay and black and I was trying to explain it to someone on Saturday and managed to get myself confused let alone her! In my defence it was very hot and I was melting
-
Then I can have a chocolate, black, red/tan and black/tan at home However 1 pup will do nicely to fit into my life at the moment thanks ;)

You guys are confusing yourself because you are forgetting there are two genes First gene (E) controls if the dog is yellow (ee) or black/brown (E-). Once you have a dog who is E- the second gene (B) THEN controls if the dog is brown (bb) or black (B-). If the dog is yellow it doesn't matter what the B gene is because it only works on dogs that are (E-). So a yellow dog can "hide" both black and brown, and a brown or black dog can "hide" yellow. A brown dog cannot hide black, but if the other partner is (B-) then that will over ride the recessive to produce black. In all cases the "hidden" gene can only be expressed if the other partner has the correct genotype to bring it to the fore. So in Gibbs case he did not get the black siblings from his brown mother but from his yellow father who is most likely BB since he did not produce any brown pups :) You guys got it now?

Awwwww gorgeous I vote for the second from the right :D The one without a head in the first picture? I can't pick coz you can't see them well enough I will wait until I see photos once they can walk :p And then I will let the breeder decide anyway ;)
-
Cool trick except you would want to be able to padlock your fridge after teaching it so they can't go help themself to dinner

I have had problems with one guy at Murdoch who does the Pennhip for them. But one of our last Lappies was xrayed there as they can now score them too. It was just done through the radiology department rather than through one of the orthopaedic vets and we didn't have a problem :)
-
And another one where you can see the pups a bit better :D Oh and a big ass boobie
-
Olivebaby, not NOR but I would go Applecross or Murdoch. I have to travel a fair way to get to them too ;) Since this thread has been very quiet of late lets see if I can get more conversation going  Which one should come to WA?
-
Well done KR, that litter is certainly doing well :) My new girl was born 2 days ago :D Choice of 4 so hopefully one will be my "star"! First show for the Lappy kids for the year is tomorrow :) In fact first WA show for the year full stop!
-
It is an All breed show tomorrow night, start time is 6.30 with Junior Handlers at 6pm. 24 Labs entered according to the numbers Emery posted :) I will be there... Banjo gets to stay home though so I will only have the Lappies. Puppy of the Year is on Sunday 29th starting at 6.30pm from memory. Haven't confirmed times yet coz it is too far away I am meant to have a horse riding lesson on Thursday pm next week... somehow I think it will be cancelled if it is going to be up near 40C

I am doing lots of shows at the moment. Have the Lappies in tomorrow night (Banjo gets to stay at home), then both normal shows next weekend with the Lappies and POY with Anikka, who is starting to go through the uglies due to coat change - oh well she will be the youngest entrant for Grp 5 anyway by quite a bit I think! Then Banjo gets to go out the first weekend with Feb as well as the Lappies Congratulations on getting through Showdog :) How many years have you been invited now?
-
We stayed at home until it had passed us LOL. Then got to work slightly late :) Had a nice river out the front of our place and across the driveway - will be interesting to see what it is like when I get home! I hate lightning

Bad storm has just hit here and I know it has been very bad SOR for a few hours! All 3 dogs are staying very close and if Banjo was any closer he would be on my lap! No power even before the storm hit so no water either Luckily I don't have to be at work on time as I don't want to drive through this if I can avoid it! Hopefully everyone stays safe.

Why is crating him worse when he is growing? I would think limping would be worse because then he is building muscles unevenly Would be nice wouldn't it! Here's hoping for Powerball tonight! I managed to take Banjo for a 750m bike ride and Varda for a 500m bike ride last night  That was their first go biking though Will start building up distance now :D
-
Do you know exactly when it is? I might be interested although if it is a take dogs thing mine wouldn't be happy during the day
-
Oh sorry! Told you I was a show doofus! I really hope you get a pup who can represent for all the beautiful tan-point kelps! Yayyy puppies!! Poor boys, being put in brackets at the end there  Well at least I didn't leave the boys out all together Banjo doesn't share with other entire males very well so I can only get girl dogs. I think he likes being the only "man" in the house :D No reason to know the standard unless you are interested in showing or breeding so it is a valid question :) Going back 10 years anything but a red/chocolate was considered unfashionable in the show ring alhtough the standard hasn't changed
-
Maybe it is a demo? It says in the catalogue all the obedience classes + RallyO so I assumed it was a trial... Um, my Canine News is at work so can't give date or look it up. AP, I couldn't have asked for better with the litter :D 3 in my preferred colour too so hopefully one of those is the pick dog. I don't mind black/tan but if she was bred to Banjo in the future that means I could only get black base dogs. If I got a red/tan I could get a combination of red and black, with and without markings :D
-
Speaking of RallyO... is anyone going to enter the trial at Northern Suburbs???? I have something else on that day unfortunately
-
Red/tan and black/tan are both allowed in the standard. Of course some judges don't like them but who cares :) Pups were born today :D 3 red/tan girls and a black/tan girl (plus 2 black/tan boys) So now the wait is on to see which (if any) come to WA in the middle of March :D I persevered with Kinta for a couple of year before letting her become a bed warmer only. Her problems were chronic muscle issues which were non-specific, so she could go sore pretty well anywhere from her jaw to her back end! We were doing acupunture with Liz Franks and treatments which should have lasted a few months lasted a week Problem was the only sign we got that she was sore most of the time was she would start running under jumps rather than jumping them, with only the occasional lame day After a year she had a bigger file with Liz than most dogs got in a life time and she didn't like the treatments either because they hurt So we went to Bowen and she now just gets a treatment when she "asks" for it (Laura comes and the dogs take it in turns getting a treatment, then they wander off so she goes to the next one, then they come back for more ) But she has 1 AD pass and that is it coz I decided to stop wasting my money :p Since moving up to Gidge she is the soundest she has been since she was 18 months, but at 10 I don't think she will be going back into the agility ring ;)
-
Mini Me :D He is looking great :) Not good about his soundness though
-
Did the breeder check him out recently? It wasn't that long ago you said you were entering him in the Classic :)
-
Yeah, really "poor" little reject dogs I think Banjo would be quite happy to be one of the "rejects" who don't have to do into the show ring :D Although Varda does have a handful of shows a year now (the ones that offer neuter classes...)
-
Unfortunately I have been in the position too many times where the puppy hasn't eventuated. We should have had a Lappy puppy around Christmas (which will live with my Mum) but the bitch reabsorbed after the 4 week scan Hopefully she will end up with her pup in the second half of this year instead. As I said above, I had hoped to get a pup from Jilly's litter (although timing wasn't great so that was probably for the best), then this mating was meant to happen in June but didn't due to medical concerns with the bitch and now she is finally nearly ready to whelp! So if I had been bouncing off the walls all that time I would be exhausted by now! And since I want to show I can't have an obvious "reject" dog either, as good as they are as pets and agility dogs :D So another reason not to get too excited as that is another hurdle to go through! I have enough "rejects" taking up my bed already Wait to see what I am like once puppy is confirmed to come to me though ;) :D
-
Call name will be Jive (hopefully :p) No idea on registered names. I think it has to have Drover in it but since I don't even know if I am getting a puppy yet (have been told I will have pick bitch but of course there may not be one :p) I haven't bothered to ask LOL ETA: "She" has had a call name for the last year since we were hoping to get a pup when Jilly was born. Alas Jilly was a singleton pup!
-
Hmm message last night actually said probably no pups until today :p But who knows. The person who is passing on the info to me is co-owner of the bitch, but she is with her other co-owner to whelp down (who is also Banjo's breeder). Messages are also through FB so I don't know if she can't access it at work LOL. Weasel, pup will be either red/tan (my preference) or black/tan. I can only get a girl and it will be a show pup so need to wait to see how it grows. Fingers crossed though as they are expecting 5 pups from the scan... Full sister is here: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=52463 :)
