  1. Sorry Bedazzled, I read more than 1 person asking why the show mob got so much in the way of prizes and why doesn't performance get more - but then that is the problem with the written word coz that isn't necessarily what was meant ;) Candice, it certainly wasn't only you - and I can't say I picked on you just explained what happened with sponsorship and that I was sure the person who did all of this would love help for next year :) As you know I do both... personally if I managed to win Masters agility/jumping I will be more than happy just to have a rosette as proof :D And I have to admit it is the same for if I ever won BIS Not that I will probably get to keep it given most of the dogs I handle are owned by other people  I certainly am in the same boat as every other performance person but I don't get why people are complaining before they even see what is being offered. The year the performace mob was whinging about getting coffee mugs (or whatever they were - I didn't manage to win one so don't know  ) I have to admit I was sitting there thinking my dog won BOB and I got sweet bugger all yet apparently I got some massive prize! Maybe it was invisible :p And when I told people that I was basically told that I was lying because showing always gets the better prizes. The show mob do seem more inclined to not just automatically assume they are getting the raw end of the deal ;) And many do admit that agility/obedience is overlooked. But then how many agility/obedience people bother going on any of the committees? And no- I am not talking specifically about DOL folk, I read WAclick but rarely post as I don't always like how people answer each other on there ;) Rant over
  2. The WA forms fit 3 on an A4 page. And the template on their website has it 3 on the page... Hmm, might need to go look at the Vic forms for when we go over there as it sounds like the WA ones will be the wrong size
  3. WX, your dogs have been doing so badly lately I doubt they have a chance at the Classic... Although you would be like me, while you are enjoying your dogs' success at the moment the judges aren't exactly from countries that have a lot to do with our breeds :) Bedazzled, I was told something different by a couple of Royal Show committee members. Although I can vaguely remember them saying that a food company was approached but it was a different one to a current sponsor. I am sure there just must have been a miscommunication as I know DWD got their own sponsorship :)
  4. If performance people aren't interested in the prize why bitch about what is on offer :shrugs: In showing you have an ultimate winner... Who is the ultimate winner in performance? Which class do you choose to get the big haul? As far as I am aware performance is getting prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each height - as long as the show person has managed to get it and she has tried pretty hard. In showing BOB gets a bottle of wine and there is nothing for any other breed level prizes, just class in group and in show awards. I posted coz I was impressed at what someone has managed to achieve after years of pretty average prizes (or none...) Instead all I hear is bitching coz showing gets preference! Why did none of the agility and obedience people go looking for sponsorship? As pointed out, they managed to get it for the obedience challenge when they weren't relying in the show people to give them "handouts". The same happened at the Royal last year...
  5. Actually show people do complain about performance people at times ;) MG, noone from the performance side if things made any effort to get sponsorship as far as I am aware. Why wouldn't a show person look for sponsorship for the show side of things too? How about next year a performance person volunteers to get the several hundred prizes the performance dogs require so that they get "decent" prizes ;)
  6. RS, Class in Group and Class in Show all get prizes too - it just hasn't been posted what it is :) Personally I don't have a problem with the best dog getting the best prize. This is our biggest show of the year after all :) I do hope it is a different dog/owner each show though ;)
  7. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they just admitted they didn't believe neuters should show rather than trying to make up reasons that don't stand up to analysis  As I said to one guy - you wouldn't know my Lappy is neutered when judging her unless you looked at the tattoo in her ear
  8. I know they posted the sponsors but can't remember exactly what each was. I also don't think they posted what was sponsored just who :) They were struggling to get the several hundred prizes required though... it is a lot needed when you consider all the classes in each height group placed 1st to 3rd!
  9. Pretty sure all items posted are covered by at least $50 postal insurance as long as proof of postage and proof of value are available. Will need to look it up again when I get home to find out exact details...
  10. Pretty sure that particular year that BOB winners got sweet bugger all :p It is always disappointing when you get nothing at the biggest show of the year yet you can go to a smaller clubs shows and get brilliant prizes!
  11. Fair enough Husky. This is the first company I have ever heard of that hasn't replaced goods that haven't arrived though.
  12. Interesting, I don't know of any other company who won't replace or refund! Individuals I can accept (as long as they have proof they really did post it.) but companies have insurance for that usually. I have certainly dealt with several companies who have sent replacements only to have the original mail out arrive several months later looking a bit bedraggled  Customer service and referrals from happy customers usually are more a benefit than unhappy ones.
  13. I just saw the prize list for the two Western Classic shows for BIS and rBIS and all I can say is "Wow" First show: BEST IN SHOW PRIZE • Advance Product 15kg • Liberty Collapsible Grooming Table • Dog Show Scene $250 Voucher • Pet Goe – 2.5 litre • Show Stackers • Travel Crate – Sherae Pet Link • C Crates $500 Voucher & Pooper Scooper • Harvey Fresh Cosi Pet Milk • Fido’s Everyday Shampoo 5ltr – MavLab • Oldfield Dryer SD1000 • Shammy Cool Mat – Chilli Dogs • Trophy – Western Classic Dog Show RUNNER UP BEST IN SHOW PRIZE • Advance Product 15kg • Dog Bed – Canine Care • Dog Show Scene Voucher - $150 • Pet Goe – 2.5 litre • Show Stackers • Travel Crate – Sherae Pet Link • C Crates $250 Voucher & Pooper Scooper • Harvey Fresh Cosi Pet Milk • Fido’s Emu Oil Shampoo 1ltr– MavLab • Trophy – Western Classic Dog Show Stackers And the second show is similar :) BOB gets a bottle of wine apparently ;) Does that make any of you want to get involved in showing :D Well done to the hard workers who managed to round up so much sponsorship I know they have been working hard to get prizes for the performance events as well :)
  14. Food+weight around 16 Affen's make up for 1 Dane  14 more to go then :D Unless you have others I don't know about
  15. Woohoo SwaY! Way to go Hudson :D So how many Affens are the equivalent of you getting one GD? :D
  16. There are a couple of different styles of working kelpie, depending on whether they are yard dogs or paddock dogs or all rounders, and then you have your show kelpies as well :) Banjo looks like a "cross" between a paddock kelpie and a show kelpie to me, as he isn't as heavy as a lot of the "show" kelpies and has more leg underneath him :) Why? Did you??? Nothing on Friday and of course I am at work today (not that the mail is delivered until after lunch anyway...) Did my whinging on FB work? :D
  17. Strangely we don't get people making assumptions on what the Lappies are :) They tend to just ask what breed :D I also often get asked what breed Banjo is as well as people seem to think you can't get solid black kelpies Actually at a show recently I had a couple of guys come up to see Banjo as one of them didn't believe the other that he had seen a black kelpie being shown :D Nope When I ask I keep getting told she has lots of photos but hasn't had a chance download them due to being busy and/or too many thunderstorms so I have given up asking. They are 6 weeks on Wednesday so I will wait until they are 8 weeks then ask again as by that stage she should know if they are show potential (pup won't be coming over until she is 10 weeks). However, one of the Kelpie & Lappy owners in NSW (there are quite a few of us with both breeds!) is going to see them after they are vaccinated and she has promised to take lots and lots of photos and SEND them to me :D It was a good show in terms of rosettes Hawksdale but I still wished we had bombed :p Particularly given how slow it went! It is a good thing you chose not to come back both in terms of time and BIS was from Intermediate (although they did do consolation...)
  18. Miss Anikka took out another Minor in Group this weekend :) Although I was hoping that the dogs would bomb as I had to get up at 5.30am the following morning :p Instead we had very slow judges in a couple of the groups which meant we didn't get home from the show until 3am Which means we have had a Lappy in the GS line up in all but one WA show this year (and two this weekend with my neuter winning Neuter IG)
  19. Thanks Graham, I was nice :D Although I did consider asking how it isn't "financially viable" if there is no expense to the Club when it is covered by sponsorship... But thought that if he couldn't figure out the maths trying to reason with him at 1am in the morning was probably not going to work :p
  20. The first show with neuter classes was held this weekend in WA :) I was very happy with my Finnish Lapphund who managed to win Neuter in Group :) The Neuter in Show winner was a stunning Chinese Crested But can you more experienced neuter exhibitors please help with ideas of how to encourage clubs to hold the classes? At the show there was a total of 18 neuters over the groups. Many people can't be bothered keeping their neuters in show coat as at the moment we have a whole 4 all-breed shows a year where we are guaranteed to get neuter classes. I had a great conversation with someone on the weekend as his club has chosen to run neuter sweepstakes at their next championship show, rather than neuter classes for CC. When I asked if they would consider doing "proper" neuter classes at the next show I got a whole speel about if there weren't 5-6 entered at this upcoming show (which is unlikely ) then they wouldn't as it isn't financially viable as they have to buy a rosette (isn't there one for the sweepstakes?), pay for the CC cards and pay a levy (isn't that on a per dog basis and covered in the entry fee?). I even said we would make sure the class was sponsored and I still got told it wouldn't be financially viable This is a club who has a very good income base from weekly show and obedience training and runs 2 age groups for veterans at every show which get rosettes and prizes even though last year there was only a couple of entries So I would have thought they would be more supportive. We keep getting the whole "it isn't financially viable" with the numbers being shown currently but it is hard to encourage non-show people to have a go when they don't get very many opportunities for their membership fees. Oh, and the numbers ARE growing with each show as more people find out about the neuter championship title. Please note, sponsorship is being offered to the clubs... Do we just keep harrassing them until they give in?
  21. Poor Rosie being mistaken for a jack russell cross  I want to go back to bed...
  22. Good luck today Hawksdale. Showdog, our judge finished around 1.5 hours before the group 6&7 judges! We ended up getting home at 3am (Anikka won Minor IG and Varda Neuter IG...) which was good fun since I had to get up at 5.30 today Most recent shows we have been home between 12 and 1! It could be interesting spending the day stewarding at a horse show today!
  23. Well done :) Which show are you going to tomorrow? I am hoping all our dogs bomb tonight as I need to get up to Northam to get 4 horses measured before stewarding all day
  24. Poor Louis, I am glad to hear the reaction didn't last long :) Fingers crossed for good news in a week! Emery, if you aren't meant to weight bear then don't. You don't want to damage it further and take even longer to heal! Also a lame handler isn't the best in the ring as it can through the look of the dogs gait off is the handler is limping ;) I have washed and blowdried a dog and washed 3 horses... I am ready for bed now  Washing Varda makes me appreciate the lack of coat a Kelpie has! One more horse to wash tomorrow before going to the dog show too...
